Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I'm a huge fanfic fan. Even if you don't know how to use semicolons (my favorite punctuation!) I still think you're awesome, and I want to read your writing. However, I am a little bit of a grammar nazi. Join the crusade against bad punctuation! I'll catch all the small errors at the same time as giving some general pointers about your writing style, plot, characterization, and the overall feel of the piece. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I do a great deal of reading and so I have a good sense of what people like or don't like in all of the fanfic domains I beta. I'm also pretty good grammatically and know how to give pointers for creating various effects in a piece, such as using diction in a particular character's dialog to help characterization or modifying syntax to create a scary mood. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
There are some elements of grammar I always forget to check for. Parallelization is one. I never notice in my own writing if I do it wrong. But I promise to check for you guys! |
Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
If you're a writer who is just starting out, then yes, I would love to be your beta! It makes all the difference in the world to have one, and the opportunity to lecture someone about commas always makes me happy. Ah, you grimace. Don't worry. There are only five comma rules, and they're super easy to remember once you have someone explain it. :) |
Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
I'm not a huge fan of smut. Usually, when I'm reading for myself I just skip it, which isn't a fantastic way to catch any potential errors. If it's going to be part of a larger story, then that's OK, I'll survive, but if that's all you're writing I'll pass. |
