Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
We are actually two people using one account to more easily publish our stories. As beta-readers, our style is to bounce the writing back and forth between the two and take turns editing until both of us agree with the finished product (it usually takes about three tries). We usually do the quick fixes like grammar, spelling, and errors with the source material first, then check for story flow and continuity errors in the story itself.br /br /br / br /br / br / If you would like us to beta your story, it would be extremely helpful if you gave us a short intro to your story, and where you want to go with it. (Or a link to previous chapters, if that is the case).br /br / br / br /br / br / Note: If you desperately want something beta-ed as quickly as possible, just request Junie when you send us your story information, and she'll get it back to you within a day or two. However, this means you won't get the benefit of having your story edited by two authors. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
Because we are two authors sharing one account, any stories we beta will go through two people, so it will be thouroughly reviewed. Also, we balance each other out nicely skill-wise. One of us is very good with working in dialogue, while the other is good at narration. We also both have a talent for writing humor, although one of us tends towards slapstick while the other is better at more subtle methods. Our main strength is that we balance each other as both writers and beta-readers, transforming two moderately good authors/editors into a single quite decent one. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
Again, because we are two people, updates and emailing may be a little slow. We're also only students, and we still have a lot to learn about writing. The two of us having a conflict over a specific issue in a piece of writing would be another possible issue (but that hasn't ever happened, and the author always has the final decison, of course). Also, neither of us is particuarly talented at writing intense action scenes or horror, though we aren't horrible at it either. |
Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
There isn't much we wouldn't be willing to beta read. We don't mind non-canon or more controversial pairings (for example, M/M or hero/villain pairings) as long as they are fairly well-written.br /br /br / br /br / br / In general, we would like to beta stories that we have reading background in (for example, Anne of Green Gables, Shakespeare, anything by Tamora Pierce, Harry Potter, Twilight, Bleach, Ouran High, etc.), because we feel it would be more beneficial to the author and his/her story. Of course, if grammar and general story flow are the only things that need to be edited (which is rarely the case), we are happy to help anyone with that. As for genres, we can edit almost anything. |
Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
Stories that don't use normal grammar and spelling (for example, lots and lots of texting shorthands) could annoy us a lot. We would also prefer not to read stories that are above M in rating. |
