Beta Description
Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
Hiya, I'm Cally Chloe, a pseudonym created from two cats I used to have. Now that you know a useless bit of information about me, let's continue on, if you've not already discarded me as a beta reader worthy of editing your piece of work. Who wants a goofball who shares random bits of information with you, anyway? Beta readers are supposed to take your story, edit it, and give it back.

That's not what I'm about.

As a beta reader, yes, I do edit stories. However, I tell you why it needs to be changed, always give you the option of keeping it as-is, suggest things that will further you as a writer - this is your story. It's your masterpiece in the making. I'm just here to make suggestions that I believe will help it flow.

I don't want to be an impersonal editor. If we're going to work together, I want us to be friends. I want to be able to joke around with you and feel comfortable with who I am. If you had stopped with my random sharing of information about myself, then so far, this doesn't seem like an issue.

If you're still reading, hopefully this means you're agreeing with my views on how I like to act around you. You're fine with that. If not, you wouldn't be reading this. You'd have stopped somewhere in the above paragraph.

So, now that we're all on the same page and you like me so far, let's continue with what I'm looking for.

*I want us to be equals. I'm not better than you, and you're not better than me.

*I'm never aiming to offend you. Know that I joke around a lot. I use sarcasm, too, but I try to make that clear as you can't hear my tone of voice.

*My goal is to make your story the best it can be. I want people to read your fic, and when they're done, go to your profile to look for more. I want them to swarm you with reviews, favorites, and alerts. I want them to realize your potential. But most importantly, I want you to be happy with yourself.

As long as all of that is okay, here is what I'd like you to do when applying for my services.

First, send me a PM with a basic plot of the story. I know that sometimes you will write Plot What Plots, and Works In Progress, but everyone has a basic idea of what they want to happen, even if the story takes a turn somewhere and gets there in an unexpected way, or goes somewhere even better.

I'd like to know what pairings will be in the fic. What genre it is, how long you expect it to be (optional) and any other things you think I should know about your fic.

If I like it, I'll send an affirmative message back. If not, I'll have to decline. I wouldn't say I'm a picky person, but if I don't like it, I'll be less inclined to edit it. No offense.

If I accept your story, I'd like the first chapter or prologue or whatever you want me to edit first within the first two weeks of my response. This will let me know that I can reach you relatively easily, and that you're serious about wanting to do this. Writing a story takes work - a lot more than you expect.

You can send me things to edit in two preferred ways; either over e-mail, which I will share with you after you PM me, or over Google Documents, where we can have live editing sessions and can easily discuss things I'm unsure about. However, if you have a preferred way of sharing your work with me, please let me know so that I can possibly adapt.

I will ask a lot of questions. I will bring up a lot of problems. I'll suggest things I think should happen, which you may or may not agree with.

If you've made it this far, I think we can be great friends and work together well. I am currently accepting beta requests. Have at it, and I hope to hear from you soon.

My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I'm good at the basic requirements of punctuation and grammar and word choice, of course, and I'm good at picking them out fairly quickly.

I'm also good at the lesser-known, but still pretty important components of editing, such as inflection, voice, noticing plot-holes, making sure everyone is in character (unless, of course, your story is AU, or crack, or circumstances are involved where they literally have to be different from how they are usually), et cetera. (I love how my computer doesn't think 'et cetera' is a phrase. Silly computer.)

My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I have Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). I have a tendency to over-analyze, be a bit too critical, and be anal in the way I was taught to write. If you disagree with a correction on grammar, punctuation, or word choice, be prepared to present a good argument. I could have been reading it wrong and put a different inflection on it than you did.

I italicize. A lot. It kills me that I can't italicize while writing this right now. Italicizing emphasizes what I think is the main inflection of the sentence. I don't italicize in every sentence, but most. For example, I would have italicized 'every' in the last sentence.

I have the tendency to ramble. As you can see.

I'm frank. This could be a strength or a weakness, really, but if you don't like things without a sugarcoat, this would be a weakness.

I can't spell. Spell check is my best friend. Except when it tells me something isn't a word that I know is a word. Like et cetera. Or Slytherin.

I am a procrastinator. If I'm really into your story, this won't be an issue, but don't be surprised if it takes me a week to get the edited segment back to you. (Which, by the way, is the length of time I require at minimum before you need it back. I want to do the best I can. However, if I am into your story, it'll come back within three days, max.)

Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
My preferred fandom is Harry Potter. Within Harry Potter, the pairings I like the most are as follows:

Harry/Severus

Harry/Voldemort (or Tom Riddle)

Harry/Draco

Harry/Lucius (- I'm kind of okay with this, kind of not. You'll have to have a good plot for me to get going with this pairing.)

Fred/George

Dean/Seamus

Blaise/Draco

Severus/Lucius

Severus/Remus

Severus/Sirius (- again, you'll have to sell me on this one.)

Sirius/Remus

Actually, almost any slash pairing. But especially those above. You'll have to ask me if I like the pairing you want first, though, if it's not up there.

Het pairings from Harry Potter:

NevillexLuna

DracoxLuna

DracoxHermione

BlaisexGinny

SeverusxLily (- occasionally.)

LilyxJames (GASP. CANON.)

RonxHermione (" ")

Actually... I think that's it. Can you tell I'm a yaoi fangirl?

Another fandom I'm cool with is Artemis Fowl. I haven't experimented enough with Artemis Fowl fanfiction enough to have a list on what favorite slash and het pairings are, but in order, my favorites go:

ArtemisxHolly

Artemis/Butler

And that's it. I might like what pairing you have to offer, though, so don't feel confined to these two.

I've also recently dabbled in the Percy Jackson fandom. I have yet to read any fanfiction about this, so pretty much anything goes. I'm willing to try the following:

PercyxCalypso

PercyxRED (Rachel Elizabeth Dare. I just call her RED.)

PercyxAnnabeth

If you can make Percy Jackson slash, I applaud you.

So, that's my three preferred fandoms and their pairings. Again, don't feel confined to the pairings I give you, but if we're talking Harry Potter, I'll most likely want slash. Also, if you want to offer a different fandom altogether, I'd want to have read it first, so that I understand what's going on and can help you keep the people in character.

Also, not every fic is about pairings. You can have a good story with little to no romance, and that's cool too. I'll be fine with that.

Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
In Harry Potter:

I don't like very many canon pairings. HarryxGinny, for one, pisses me off. It just does. I suppose it's because I ship Harry with so many guys. And the fact that Ginny is a Mary-Sue. If your story shows Cho Chang in a positive light, I will not betaread it. She is my least favorite character. And yes, I hate her more than Umbridge. Which says something.

If your story is mindless smut, I will not betaread it. Lemons are fine, but I prefer backstory. I want what was happening before this, the slow and steady relationship the two form before passionate lovemaking. If there is none, don't bother with asking. I'm sorry. No offense.

Creature fics - eh. They aren't my favorite thing in the world, but some people can pull it off really well. If your summary is: 'Harry comes into his Veela inheritance and now he must find a mate,' ... Well. No. I won't be interested. If your summary begins with the words: 'Harry is turned into a Vampire by-' No.

And a personal pet peeve of mine - starting a summary by saying 'Lily had a secret'. No, no she didn't. If Lily had a secret in your story, don't bother sending it to me. Offense intended.

In Artemis Fowl:

Just as I hate Cho Chang from Harry Potter, I hate Minerva from Artemis Fowl.

In Percy Jackson:

I hate Hera and Aphrodite. The children of Aphrodite, in general, just piss me off. I don't think there are many people who do like them, so this probably won't be an issue.
