I'll make this short and sweet.

I'll generally beta read anything presented to me, although I prefer stories that occupy a setting familiar to me- but as I've said, I'll read most anything, unless said thing does not meet my (in my eye) reasonable expectations.

My expectations:
At least passable English Decent-length chapters (700 or more words per chapter is a good rule of thumb- no midget pieces please)
That you are not offended by the idea that your work will need improvement (there's always someone)
If you portray canon characters, that you please portray them like they are in the canon- no goofy Master Chiefs, for instance Not easily offended in general (you'll see why if you read weaknesses)
Acceptance of my beta-reading procedure, outlined below.

Procedure:
I receive the story.
I read the story.
I decide whether the story is worth the time taken to improve it (if I say no, then I recommend finding another beta reader, because begging does not work with me).
I suggest general improvements if the piece is not up to scratch.
I re-read the updated piece.
If suggestions are not followed up and/or the quality of piece does not improve, then I make more specific suggestions.
The previous two steps are repeated until it's good enough for publication or one side quits outof boredom/frustration/rage.

Will sometimes be overly critical (anyone who's read reviews by me will know this)-understand that it's nothing personal- just my personal feelings about the piece combined with actual analysis. So if I nitpick the piece to death, forgive me please-and tell me to back off.
Will sometimes micromanage a story so that it ends up how I would have written it. If this happens, tell me and I will back off ASAP.

I would prefer certain types of stories: Halo, BSG, Lord of the Rings, Star Wars. In general, I'll tell you what I think when the piece is presented.

Twilight= automatic rejection No Spartan-II romance stories Not a big fan of romance fics in general, but I will proofread them if I have to.
Gross violation of canon= an unhappy bta reader
