Beta Description
Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
Alright, you lucky authors, you! I am again accepting beta requests. I think I've gotten this whole going back to school thing down now, and I can start helping with a few stories again. Send me a message telling me a little about your story, if possible include an excerpt of your story or other writing, and we'll go from there.

As a beta-reader, I prefer to beta for authors who already have some skill in the area of writing, simply because I lack the patience to hold anyone's hand as I walk them through. So if that is what you are looking for, someone else would probably be a better fit. I enjoy helping plots move along, if you need to bounce ideas off of someone, but you must already have a strong idea of what the story will be (with a beginning, middle, and end in mind) as I will not be willing to supply that. Heaven knows I have enough of that to do for my own stories, besides the fact that once I come up with a germinal idea, I generally want to be the one to develop it. :)

My process is that I will first edit for mistakes and only then may I offer other suggestions. I certainly will if wanted, but I try not to mess with writing style as I know it's a very individual thing. I quite enjoy editing, plus getting a sneak preview on great stories isn't bad either.

My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I was copy-editor for my high school newspaper and I excel at spelling, grammar, and sentence structure.

Making dialogue sound like real people talking is one of my super skills, according to many of my readers here on FFn as well as members of my scriptwriting class this semester. So, if you have a problem getting your dialogue to flow (you know what you need your characters to say, but their words sound more like an English essay than novel or TV show dialogue), than I'm the girl for you.

I've also been told I have a knack for getting a show's characters in-character, so I can definitely help with that if that is an area in which you need help.

My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I sometimes try to take on more work than I can handle, particularly when it comes to reading fanfics (I'm kind of obsessed. :P) but I have determined that this time I will try taking on just a few, ease into it, like, and then go from there. If I get overloaded and have to refuse a request or two I will, but I will always make sure that the author knows why and I will try to recommend some other good betas to you.
Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
I love Tony-centric NCIS stories. Pretty much any kind. And team fics with mystery, drama, angst, action, humor. And whump. Whump is my favorite. Tony whump, of course. ;) But the Tony whump has to be well done. As much as I love shameless hurt!Tony, there does have to be at least a bit of substance behind it for me to really get into it.

I like the directors in this order:

Vance- Used to hate him because he split up the team and because he seemed to have an unmerited dislike toward my favorite, but that's cooled down some and he's really grown on me.

Morrow- Good guy, competent, don't actually know a lot about him, but Gibbs respected him and that was good enough for me.

Shepard- Used to like her, thought that the show focused way too much on her and Gibbs' previous relationship which began to get on my nerves. She totally blew it with the 'La Grenouille' thing, basically commandeered the agency to push her own agenda, and then lost any chance to redeem herself when she died. (See below for more about Jenny.)

Pairings I will beta for (not necessarily pairings I ship, just pairings that I don't mind reading):

Tiva- My OTP, I truly believe that they are meant for each other eventually. It's like they complete each other. They're both so emotionally crippled that they need each other. However, I'm not sure how it would work out for them to get together on the show. I do trust the writers to find a balance though, and I am content to wait until they do.

Tabby- If there was no Tiva, I could totally see Tabby. I mean, they're like bffs, and would be so good together, I think.

McAbby- The goth and the geek. So cute and misfit-ish!

Tate- This pairing makes me sad that it never had a chance to be, but I still kinda like it.

Tonne- That's Tony/Jeanne, right? Unlike some, I don't hate Jeanne. It was a sucky situation for both her and Tony, for which I completely blame Jenny.

Gannon- I'm totally guessing at Gibbs/Shannon. Maybe it's Shibbs? I have a cousin named Gannon... Anyway, Gibbs and Shannon are soulmates, so yeah.

Leon/Jackie- Not even going to attempt this one. I'm sure I would fail miserably. But they are cute together. Leon is totally whipped. And I've never come across a fic with these two as main characters but I think it could be interesting. Even if they just had a scene or two .

Even though I find myself hating Vance less and less, I'm still a fan of those old 'Vance gets his comeuppance for how he's treated Tony' fics. As long as they're done well and believably characterized. Which I can help with, by the way. :)

Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
I don't read slash, I don't write slash. No offense to anyone, it's just not my thing.

I'm not a fan of disabled fics, either.

I will not beta Tony-bashing fics or any character bashing fics, really. Tony, first and foremost, but you should also not bash Abby, Ziva, Gibbs, or McGee. In that order. And by bashing, I don't mean that I won't stand for a speck of criticism. Each character has definitely earned a dressing-down at one time or another. But the criticism should be earned, and it shouldn't be the entire story, because really, how depressing is that?

I will not read fics that require me to not only suspend my disbelief but effectively annihilate it. Unless, of course, it's a crack-fic. You kind of expect, and even look forward to it then.

Mary Sues = death, and I'm not a huge fan of Author Avatars either. Seriously, if you want to write yourself into a story, that's fine. A little conceited, but fine. Just don't expect that everyone will want to read it.

I'm not big on romance stories. I mean, I don't dislike the romance, but it can't be just romance. There has to be something else there to keep my attention. Something show-ish. And the romance has to be well done and well led up to, also. No 'OMG, I just got hit with Cupid's arrow and now I'm totally in LOVE with you!' Unless, again, it's a crack-fic, in which case that would be perfectly acceptable. :D

Pairings I will not beta for (unless the pairing somehow changes midway through and becomes a 'good pairing'. See above.):

McGiva- Seriously? Who sees a spark there? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?...

Gabby- Ew ew ew ew ew! So wrong!

Jibbs- After the whole 'La Grenouille' thing, I sort of hate Jenny. Even in the episodes before it all happened.

So yeah, since I hate Jenny, I also won't beta for stories that feature her as a main character. She can be there, have a few lines and interactions, or feature as a villain, but I draw the line there. Unless someone thinks they have a story that can change my mind towards her. I mean, I really used to sympathize with her, but I just can't stand her anymore.
