I like to think of myself as a script-doctor as I beta-read. I may be very hands-on in correcting and pointing out inconsistencies in your writing unless you make it a point for me to not do so. I would generally leave your main plot alone, however I will focus on helping to keep your characters as in-character as possible, helping to point out OOC behaviour and unnatural dialog. I may re-write such bits arbitrarily, but generally, I would leave the bulk of the story alone unless it directly contradicts character motivations (in which case, you can tell me to ignore it, explain to me a bit more of the plot, or take my advice and see if you want to re-write).

The rest is the general suite of checking out spelling and grammar errors, whether the formating is appropriate etc.

I excel in heavily character driven work, especially in terms of the character's motivation and natural dialog and speech patterns. My other strength is highly descriptive exposition, ranging from a wide range of genres, but I admit to having a certain talent for describing horror and twisted imagery most of all.

I tend to miss the forest for the trees. Often, I get too caught up in the details to see the full picture. This affects my betareading in that I may betray overall plot smoothness and progression over getting those little details right. I don't really like to stand back and take a wide-view of the work, even though I know it's necessary.

I think I can beta-read almost anything. Humor and horror are my two general favs; but I might balk at romance as sometimes, it requires OOC behaviour (depending on the pairing) and contradicts my own sentiments. Romance involving canon pairings are prolly the ones I would generally accept and be able to beta-read effectively.

Romance fics that don't involve canon pairings (note, I CAN and LIKE to beta-read for yaoi pairings, depending on the fandom involved). No yuri however. Fics involving too many original characters (sounds hypocritical considering many of my works involve OCs, but I mean for unnecessary OCs like Mary/Gary Sues and self-inserts).

If I see a Mary/Gary Sue or Self-Insert, you would not even began to be considered.

No AUs, no 'what ifs', no gender-switches.
