Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I am a Beta Reader -obviously- who enjoys reading over the stories of others who need help with anything ranging from spelling to ideas for said story. I am also one who has too much free time and loves to read almost anything that comes my way. I can 'do' any kind of story that is put out, although, with some stories such as ones with not a whole lot of...depth I'll tell you now, I would not be able to put my absolute all into it. Though I will try as hard as possible to get through it, while letting you know my feelings (nicely, I promise!). As for expectations, I would not like you to simply jot something down and send it. I would like for one to have actually put good work into their story and really try to make it perfect before they send it to me. And most definitely for said person to learn from their mistakes. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
When it comes down to grammar, spelling, and how sentences sound, I am fantastic at it. Granted, sometimes I will screw up, after all, who doesn't? But when reading over someone else's story, I am able to throw everything I have into it to make it sound professional. When coming up with things, when asked for it at least, I am superb (not to toot my own horn), but a bit on the wild side. I will admit some of my ideas are a little far fetched, but can be great. If asked, I can write, spell, or look over anything. So don't hesitate to talk to me! |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I can ramble a little, and I sometimes tend to repeat myself, just in different words. I am obsessed with commas, obviously, and can sometimes accidentally overuse them. Another issue you may have with me is that I love to throw in things, or rather ideas, for your story that you may not enjoy. I apologize in advance. I am a little old fashioned, so I might accidentally use words that are outdated. |
Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
I prefer stories that are not... boring. Sorry, but true. A story has to have depth, action, and a story that grabs my attention. A story that is original and not overused. Although, I can do any kind of story that is thrown my way, my level of... literacy may go up or down depending on each story. |
Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
I am going to say now, no stories that have characters that are NOT from the original story. I'm sorry, but it drives me insane, I've never really known why. Unless the new character is just a small character, one that is either rarely there, or only for a small purpose, I can't do it. I also despise pure fluff. There has to be some angst, anger, and fights thrown in or I just plain can't do it.Last, if you, at ANY time, use the phrase: "pick up the pieces" I will likely not talk to you. At all. I can't do it, it is the single most annoying, overused line I have ever read and is an immediate turn off. Sorry... |
