Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I love reading what others have written and correcting grammar or spelling mistakes if I find them. I think grammar and spelling mistakes have the power to ruin an excellent story if they are made, and at the same time a good level of grammar and a good level of spelling can make any story a lot better.
I also am very observant when it comes to the coherency of the story and its characters; OOC is something I don't like and I tend to point it if the characters are written out of themselves and their normal patterns of behavior.
I prefer stories written in prose, where there are lots of descriptions of the characters' feelings and not only tons and tons of dialogue without exploring how the characters feel and the perspective from where they are seeing the situation.
Coherence is something utterly important to be found in a good story, as I see it. A story might have potential if you look at its plot, but it's important that it doesn't lack of coherence and the readers don't get lost.

My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
Grammar, spelling, coherence, characters' behavior (when it comes to characters I know and I am familiarised with, of course), descriptions, facts related to things that have happened on the show that do make a difference and that some times get accidentally ignored or overlooked. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I usually don't add dialogues in my stories because I focus on describing the scenario and the feelings of the characters, so maybe that can be a weakness, the fact that I am not used to write dialogues myself. Anyway, if I read a dialogue I can say if something's not been written the way it should have, or if there is something missing or if there is a grammar mistake or a spelling one. But I am of not use when it comes to helping dialogues improve.
Another weakness of mine is that I hate reading stories that resolve around a pairing I don't like, so I couldn't be a good betareader for those type of stories. |
Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
Stories involving characters I am familiarised with, whether I like the character or not.
Stories based on shows I am familiarised with.
Stories written in the context of the show, although I wouldn't mind betareading something that is set on an Alteran Universe or out of the time-frame of the actual show.
Stories that stick true to the show and its characters.
When it comes to pairings, I, of course, have my preferences and I find the job a lot easier to do if the story resolves around a pairing I like: Tony/Michelle, Jack/Chloe, Jack/Kate, Bill/Karen, Sherry/David (24); Gabrielle/Lynette FRIENDSHIP ONLY, Tom/Lynette/, Carlos/Gabrielle, Mike/Katherine, Karl/Bree, Karl/Susan (Desperate Housewives); Joe/Allison, Lee/Allison (Medium); Adrian/Natalie (Monk); Grissom/Sara, Warrick/Catherine, Nick/Mandy, Nick/Sofía (CSI); Niles/CC (The Nanny). |

Slash stories I don't feel comfortable with.
Pairings I don't like I don't feel comfortable with either, especially, because I know I wouldn't be able to be a good betareader if I don't like the pairing, as it has been stated previously. The list contains: any pairing involving Tony Almeida with any other woman than Michelle Dessler, especially Tony/Kim (in my opinion, they are just friends, and he is like an older brother to her), Jack/Audrey, Jack/Diane, Chloe/Morris (24); Mike/Susan (Desperate Housewives); Randy/Natalie (Monk); Grissom/Heather, Grissom/Catherine, Warrick/Sara, Greg/Sara, Nick/Sara (CSI - Yes, I am a proud GSR shipper, as you can see). |
