I'm a freelance proofreader so accuracy is very high and I offer varied phrasing options for ambiguous passages. Stylistically I can offer better ways to portray characters and emotions via some advice, hints and general editing. When editing I'll keep as close to the manuscript as possible, but if it's too wordy and repetitive chunks will go as it deters from the story. Any manuscipts offered for proofreading will get three rereads, each time checking for a different aspect of writing: spelling, grammar and style. There may be other rereads too, and I can probably guarantee a returned beta'd 'script within two days providing I'm outside of term time. Luckily, my terms are very short, so providing people accept this and allow leniency it's okay. Even then in term time I can probably guarantee a return within a week. So I'm methodical and punctual. And good.
If I beta for someone I'd expect the plot to be thought out, or at least have an idea of where the story's going - I can assist with plot if need be; but I really expect and would kind of demand at least a semi - regular schedule. It doesn't matter how long the intervals are; a day; a week; a few months; as long as there *is* one. Also, if someone's writing in English as a second language or is dsylexic I would like to be told so I can provide grammar assistance/spelling help for those who'd need it. Patience is a virtue; one I'd like in the people I'd proofread for, for if there are any unexpected delays I *will* inform you, but please be patient.
And I know this is strange, but I'd like a cordial relationship. I don't expect everyone to be best friends, but politeness would be nice.

Well, I've proofread for an author who's had books published and for two school publications and I have two A Levels in English Language and English Literature at very high levels, plus I'm doing an English degree at uni so I have a keen eye for grammatical, orthographical and stylistic mistakes.
When I come across areas that need clarification or better word choices I'll provide two or three options on how the sentence/phrase/etc. could be better worded.

I will use English spellings rather than American, but I can adapt to that. S ometimes if I'm too busy or tired I'm prone to a few mistakes or not giving as thorough a first readthrough as normal. If this happens it gets put to multiple proofread so may take a little longer than normal to get beack to someone.

I'll give anything a read, especially in my preferred fandoms as it would help with characterisation better. I'm averse to lolicon and shoutacon though, it just makes me a little uncomfortable. BUT I'LL STILL BETA IT.
