Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
Slow -- that dreadful thing known as Real Life gets in the way of fanfic, and I have stories of my own to write, so if you need a story back in a hurry, ask someone else. I've been writing fanfic for approximately 20 years, although I'm new to 'netfic. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
Proofreading. I'm an ex-teacher; I'm used to looking for spelling errors, punctuation errors, grammatical errors, etc. If it's a universe I know, I'll comment on whether your characters are in-character or not. If it's a universe I don't know, I'll tell you whether or not it makes sense to an outsider. I have a little Spanish, a few words of Gaelic, and a decent knowledge of history. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
Literary editing. "I don't know art, but I know what I like." I can't describe why something works or not. I can't always describe why something doesn't work, just that it's "not right." Yes, I know this is annoying. If I were a better literary editor of my own work, I'd be selling stories to Del Rey and Tor and Baen instead of submitting stories to fanzines or posting them here. Sorry, I'm horrid at plotting for myself; doubt I'll be able to help you with that. I also have trouble with subjunctive tense, and always need to look up lay vs lie. |
Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
Love crunches (emotional or physical). Love crossovers. Like action/adventure, science fiction, fantasy, westerns. |
