I believe reading and writing go hand in hand with each other. To be a better writer one must read and workshop the works of other writers of all skill levels. That's why I'm offering myself as a beta-reader. I'd love to help other writers see the strengths and weaknesses, especially those just beginning, and I believe we all need a beta-reader to help bring out the best in all of our writing.

Note that I am not here to proofread your story. A computer can do that. Instead, as a beta-reader, I expect to be here to look at your story from a structural perspective, starting from an outline and then examining it on a chapter-to-chapter basis. I will search for plot holes to repair and pacing to spread out.

I've taken classes on subjects that I feel are relevant to the work of beta-reading and I've got a full index of tropes in my head that could help with your writing. I tend to love and be critical of Original Characters and I believe I can help you with both characterization and dialogue.

Striking a balance between being too harsh and too soft has always been a struggle for me. As someone who still has trouble accepting criticism on occasion, I tend to try to soften my critique to a point where it's useless. However, I also tend to be a perfectionist who expects similarly from those I choose to critique, and can be a little too harsh on occasion. Beta-reading is very much a learning process for me as well.

Original Flavor, e.g. stories that attempt to emulate the themes and tone of the source material, have been and always will be my favorite. I'd prefer fanfiction that read as if they could be an actual episode of the TV show or an actual sequel to the movie to ones that are significantly different from their source material.

I'd prefer not to deal with any romance-centric or shipping-centric fanfiction. It's not why I read fanfiction, and it's not a genre I know how to or want to review that I feel is too poorly done so much of the time. The same goes for songfics.
