Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I don't have a whole lot of experience with beta-reading, but I can promise you that I will put in the effort. I want to work with you, not against you, and my goal is to deliver you a product that you and your readers are happy with! I know that I'm young and haven't done a whole lot of beta-reading or writing on this site, but I've done a lot of writing in general, tend to pick up creative writing awards in school, and am confident that your fanfiction is safe with me. My spelling, grammar, punctuation and vocabulary are all entirely sound, and I'm more than willing to help out with characterization, plot and description. The last is really more my thing, so if you're the type that gets ansty over description, I think I'd be a good fit. If you're interested, don't hesitate to drop me a pm! My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
My strengths are mostly the same as everyone else's - spelling, grammar, other language conventions. I am, however, completely willing and able to help you out with plot, characterization, and other content details. I like to think of myself as well-rounded, so hopefully I can help you out in every area. I'd say I'm probably best with spelling and description, so if you're interested in those, I'm more than willing! |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
One of the worst things about me as a beta-reader is that I'm hesitant to point some content-related things out. Another weakness could be that I don't really have much experience with beta-reading. Sure, I proof-read essays and things for friends, but fanfiction's different, right? I'm also not exceptional with deadlines - I may have something to you within hours (depending on when I get it) or within one...or two...or three days. Or more, if there are extenuating circumstances. I can also miss continuity errors and canon elements. |
Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
I know it's wrong, but I tend to prefer stories with pairings and characters that I like. Draco Malfoy and Peeta Mellark are my babies right now, so I'll probably pounce on you for them. I tend to prefer slash over het, but both are equally welcome. I would prefer it if you did have a decent grasp on writing, just so that things go smoother. I'm an angst junkie, and I do like fluff and smut and other shiny things as well. One-shots are great, but I'd also be interested in doing a long fic (as long as you have ideas!) It's weird, I know, but I like sad, heart-wrenching fics, or really intense ones with lots of drama. Realistic, mind. Within the fandom, anyway. But I like most fics in my preferred fandoms (Harry Potter, TMI/ID, Hunger Games) so I'd most likely be more than happy to beta your fic! |
Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
I do love AU quite a bit, but I just can't stand fics in which the universe is reserved (i.e. all-human Twilight, no-magic Harry Potter). I also hate squick, parody, character-bashing, poetry (okay. I don't hate poetry, just poetry fics), no m-preg, severe ooc-ness, Mary Sues, most OC-centric fics, and a lack of base writing skills (as in, you are unaware that 'a' and 'an' cannot be used interchangeably. These peoply exist. You have been warned.). There will be no half-vampire Ebony Raven Sorrow's shacking up with Draco Malfoy and killing the Dark Lord with her hairbrush. |
