Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I'm a seasoned reader on Fanfiction and while my current works are all but abandoned, I've never stopped writing offline. When I read a work, I go for the grammar and structure first because if that fails, the story flow is gone; then come the complaints. After that I put the dialogue and it's arrangement under a microscope because people breaking character for a moment is jarring as hell. If you'll have me I expect you not to castrate me if I critique unfavorably on something you're passionate about. Basically be tolerant and open to constructive criticism. Beyond that I will gladly be a sounding board for ideas, or a sanity check as circumstances /br / Familiar Fandoms: Naruto, RWBY, Fallout 3&4, One Piece up to Fishman Island, Stargate SG-1 to Atlantis and some Universe (please no), Kill la Kill, Gurren Lagann, Gundam Iron Blooded Orphans, various space anime (too many possibilities, please inquire before proceeding), Mario, Zelda, SOME 40k, Mass Effect 1-3, MLP, The Expanse, Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, Stellaris, Halo, Homeworld, Honor Harrington, Expeditionary Force, Lost Fleet, Starship's Mage, Starship Troopers movie&book, Foundation series. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I'm good with grammar, dialogue structure, spelling, and descriptions. As for the beta part, I know how to fix the grammar errors and am unafraid of giving frank criticism, however I realize I'm just the sounding board in that area. My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
Writing-wise I'm not good at sticking to a schedule, at all. My muse is fleeting after the initial creative burst we've all felt. There are some things I don't comprehend well, mostly in the realm of really deep social interaction. |
Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
Not a preference, a set of requirements. I'm currently in the final months of college meaning in the middle of my Capstone so I WILL NOT and CANNOT beta multi-chapter monstrosities.One-shots? That I can do, but they can't be 10,000 word monstrosities. In fact, I would prefer that be the only thing I'm asked to beta. However, I'll add a caveat. Small miniseries, say 2-4 chapters of reasonable word length I will CONSIDER. No real preferred genre, check the NMCoT section to see what I won't beta and extrapolate from there. |
Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
Horror, excessive gore, and yaoi, especially yaoi lemons. Not a homophobe, just uncomfortable. Oh and anything involving a Mary Sue, Gary Stu, et al. One caveat: Yaoi stories I will still beta if you don't expect me to read any lemons. |
