Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I'd like to say that I'm quite an avid reader, and I will critique your work if you would like me to do so. As for plotlines, I like to see plots that don't go astray, and stay on track. If your characters are pursuing something, and that is the main part of the story, keep them searching for it, and not something else randomly in the story, if that makes any sense. I like stories that make sense and don't go off-topic. Fortunately, I do not see many stories such as that, so good job. ^-^I am very, very, very picky when it comes to grammar and spelling, so keep grammatical errors to a minimum, and make sure you spell your words correctly. Typos are understandable though, but try to get them fixed if you can. I, myself, make many typos every now and then without realizing it. When I read a story, I also like to see themes, symbolism, metaphors, etc. Just anything creative that you can throw into your story to give it more meaning and originality. I like to see stories that don't exactly go along with the plot of the fandom. For example, if you write a Kingdom Hearts fanfiction, I don't mind if you don't follow the exact storyline. In fact, I actually think it's interesting to read AU fanfics, so if you're feeling creative, go for it. And like I said before, themes and symbolism are always nice, as it's nice to read a story that really makes you think. There's not much else that I can think of. If you want me to betaread your story, just ask. =D |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I like to believe that I excel at leaving readers in suspense, keeping characters in character, and including themes and symbolism. I also like to think that I always have exceptional grammar and spelling, as I find them very necessary when reading and writing. Personally, I like to think that I excel at writing horror-type stories, with tragic romances, and murder and other "risque" topics. Romance is a strongpoint of mine, and mostly what I write. I also love to write anything dramatic, especially action and horror. I am fairly good at keeping my readers interested in the story, and keeping the plot from going off-topic, most of the time. I'm also very good at writing dramatic scenes. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I struggle with forming plotlines, and writing beginnings, especially. My first one or two chapters are usually the worst, as they tend to be dull and cliche. I try to avoid this though, by starting off the story with interesting "hooks" such as flashbacks, dreams, etc. I also struggle with typos, as I use a typing program that does not let me know when I misspell a word or make a grammatical error without noticing it. I struggle sometimes with having a direct plot, as I often tend to lose track of what my characters are supposed to be doing. I have trouble forming plots because usually I only am able to think of the high-action, climatic scenes, and have trouble tying the story together with less dramatic scenes. |
Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
I love any kinds of stories that are dark, twisted, risque, etc. Darker versions of Alice in Wonderland are a good example. I love stories that deal with controversial topics. I love romance in stories as well, as it keeps me interested, as long as I like the pairing. Stories that I tend to enjoy reading are usually romance stories, action stories, or horror/tragedy stories. |
Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
There isn't much that I can't stand to read, but I often dislike cliche storylines that have been overused. I usually don't like it when people go along with the exact same story of the game/anime/etc., but novelizations of games like Dragon Age or Mass Effect are okay, because they are so customizable. Other than that, there isn't much that I don't like reading, so I'll more than likely betaread your story. ^-^ |
