I am familiar with several different series. I read sci-fi/fantasy, watch numerous movies and anime, and take in the occasional cartoon. I read with an eye towards spelling, grammar, and characterization. I also pay attention to the general flow of the story. I am not above doing everything I can and then giving the story back as "not ready to be published yet".

To understand my background better, I've been reading voraciously for over twenty years. I read mainly fiction, though I also read various comics. The other half of my reading is programming and math books. I bring an analytic eye to technical aspects of writing.

I've also played role-playing games for years (the pencil and dice kind), both as a player and GM. The result is that I have an eye for setting and characters. I believe strongly that characters should be true to themselves, regardless of what happens in the setting. Often, that means your characters will NOT work to advance your plot.

If you want to know what types of stories I like, read what I've written, and read what my wife has written. I'm not too picky about style, but I will pound you on the technical aspects of your writing, and the quality of your characters. I view the characters as more important than the plot, but no plot = boring.

Spelling, grammar, and characters. Please don't insult me by not using your spell-checker, though.

If you have serious problems with a story, I may be able to tell it isn't ready, but not be able to put my finger on the exact problem. Often, this is something related to a character/plot conflict.

I particularly enjoy character studies and investigations of unusual ideas. Humor is always welcome. If you've read my work, you'll have a good idea of what I mean, and how odd my sense of humor is.

Yaoi. Mindless gushy excuses for "romance". Severe OOC (interesting interpretations are OK, but the character should be recognizable in a lineup). Silliness masquerading as "humor".
