Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
Well, I'm one of those perfectionist Beta's that WILL fix any grammar/punctuation errors that I happen to see. I would prefer being able to rewrite a sentence (or paragraph, or half a chapter) to make it sound better, but I will NOT write your entire story for you, nor will I rewrite anything you don't wish me too. I really like bouncing ideas if you're having a writer's block, and I tend to have a wierd outlook on things that other people have never thought of. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I've been said to be very creative, and am good at coming up with things people have never thought of. I actually enjoy editing, so if I enjoy your story, I will most likely edit and get it back to you very quickly. I also have a very extensive vocabulary, and very much dislike being formal with people, so I'm more likely to be honest about if your story is completely amazing, or if it would be in your best interest to fix something. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
While I do tend to notice and or think of things other people don't, I am extremely oblivious to the obvious. I also,on occasion, may neglect to point out something if I consider it obvious, thinking it is on your wavelength, even though it may not be. Another thing is that I am incredibly busy, and tend to be a bit of a procrastinator, so if your story/chapter needs a lot of work I may not be able to edit it immediately. I am also unable to log in to my account, but am emailed private messages, so I'd need your email in order to contact you. (If giving out your email to a complete stranger bothers you, I may point out that there are plenty of free email sites out there that find Joe The Plumber a perfectly acceptable name. Just FYI, in case you're as paranoid as me.) |
Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
I prefer beta-ing romances or comedies, and in the case of romances, for it to be in the heterosexual (non-homosexual) form. I also very much prefer to beta stories that have the same pairings as the books, except in the instance of the 'Song Of The Lioness Quartet, in which I am strongly for Alanna/Jon pairings. Not to say that I would not beta something outside of these things, I just prefer them. I also love, love, LOVE original stories. I love the creativity that people have in coming up with their own plot and/or characters, and will be more likely in most cases to to beta an original story/plot line than an story that takes place during the time of the book series. |
Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
I will not beta-read anything written below a 6th grade grammar level, because it usually indicates that you most likely do not read a lot, do not have a strong vocabulary, show very little care for the details (like the character's specific personality, hair color, friends, ect.), and that you do not/ did not have the attention span to pay attention in class, which makes me wonder how you'll ever have the attention span to write a decent length fanfiction. I understand if you're just not a reader, or you don't have a strong vocabulary, but this IS fanfiction after all. I also detest pointlessly whiny characters and/or authors. I generally also tend to lean toward longer fanfics, as opposed to ones that, when completed, will be under 5,000-10,000 words, or one-shots. Depressing and horror-filled fanfics are also not my thing. (When they are centered around these things. I do realize that a story needs it's balance of emotion.) |
