Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I'm new at the whole beta-reader thing, but don't let that deter you! I've taken many creative writing and English courses and, though far from perfect, think that I am proficient at the very least. When going over pieces, I normally do a quick scan to make sure everything flows, before going back over more carefully to scout out any grammatical errors, misspellings, and other problems in a piece of writing. I do request that anyone who is wants to 'acquire my services' is prepared for criticism, because even the best writers make foolish mistakes, myself included. Also, I don't demand it, but if you want me to go over a piece of work, I would appreciate it if you would make any corrections I suggest, and keep writing it instead of letting it go to waste in the documents folder! |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
Well, as I stated before, I am somewhat new to beta-reading, however I have been writing for a long time. Personally I excel at Creative Writing and Poetry and, not to be boastful, have won several awards for various pieces. I prefer to read/write poetry, creative writing pieces, and, slightly more recently, fanfiction. When it comes to strength in reading/writing, I have been told on more than one occasion that I have a very creative mind. I love to come up with new ideas or twists for things. I am also good at being very detailed. These are probably my greatest strengths, though I do have others. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I, just like everyone else, am not perfect. My biggest weaknesses are probably spelling and basic grammatical correctness. Having read so many stories and books, my mind sometime skips over silly mistakes such as there, they're, their, its, it's and even things like one and won. When going over pieces, I try my best to stay on top of this, but sometimes these little details will escape my notice. |
Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
Personally, I would prefer to beta stories that stick with the original storyline, aside from OC's and some creative liberties. Stories that are completely different, or change the original plot to the point where it does not read, or sound, like the original, I do not enjoy. Another thing I would prefer would be for the story to either be a one-shot, or have a substantial length to it. Also, though not completely unwilling, I would prefer not to beta anything slash, yuri, or yaoi, unless of course it is in the actual storyline. |
Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
I would not beta-read any stories that completely alter the original plot to the point where it is unrecognizable. Also, I would not beta-read stories that have two characters of the same sex fall in love with each other, or lust after each other, unless it is preordained in the storyline. |
