Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
As a betareader,I'll check for grammar mistakes,incongruities(aka things that don't match up), things that don't make sense,and other major stuff like that. I'll also probably point out where people may have trouble with parts of the story,like the way a particular sentance is worded,but I might not be overly harsh on anybody but myself. Okay,make that I PROBABLY won't be very harsh on anybody not me,unless it's written entirely in "chatspeak",and for no discernible reason. I HATE chatspeak. Unless it serves some purpose in the story,I CANNOT tolerate chatspeak in any written works. I just can't stand reading something like "And then U asked him Y RU so wird about it NE way" or anything to that effect. It entirely murders a perfectly good story and pisses me off to no end. Now,on to my personality. I am perfectly sane,even though I may not sound it,and I like to make almost everything I write into a story or miniature story. Usually involving Silva,my "alter ego" so to speak,her magickal house,and all her "boys",which are summoned people(mostly men) from my favorite manga and animes. And even some comics and cartoon shows. Anyone who has talked to me for any length of time will tell you I am fond of Silva and her boys,very much so,and they will also probably tell you it makes me quite fun to converse with for long periods of time,if you enjoy such banter. In fact,it is through several such conversations,over the course of several months,that I and a friend composed a number of stories that were co-authored in a true sense of the word- precisely half was written by me,and precisely half written by her. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I'm best at looking over other works and finding minor or major mistakes rather than my own. I screw up my own a lot,and I'm aware of it,but I can't seem to find my own mistakes that well,even when they're obvious. However,I will read almost anything not a history,and I'll read histories if they're not drier than a desert,and I can correct almost anything I read that has something wrong with it. I even notice mistakes in the published BOOKS I read.....seriously,I need to start doing this for a good reason. Also,for characters my strong point is male characters. I can handle any kind of male character's personality and see how he would react in almost any given situation,no matter his personality. As for girls,however,I am best with only two types- the enchanting seductress,and the violent(yet kind) tomboy. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I highly dislike history texts and sci-fi. I've never been fond of either. And I will admit there are some cartoons,animes,and manga I have not seen,read,or heard about,so for some stories I cannot help you keep a character IN character,only help with scene setting,grammar,and of course, making sure it all makes sense. My character weakness is.....FEMALES. Specifically,ones that aren't seductresses or violent tomboys. I can handle the seductress because in short,that's an easily pegged persona,but I'M a violent tomboy,and therefore know how one works. With any other type of female(the easily scared and weak kind,for example) I usually fail miserably at keeping them in character. So for that kind of chracter,I may not be the best to ask if you are keeping them true to the persona. |
Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
I would prefer to beta stories that involve my favorite characters,which of course reside with Silva (and you'll meet most of the people in her house at some point through my stories,by the way),however I will not let that particularly influence my skills as a beta. As mentioned,I highly dislike histories and most sci-fi,but I would still give either of those generes a good once-over for grammar,plot,and congruity if asked to do so. |
Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
Histories,sci-fi,and stories that have no real point. I'm not interested in the first two,and as for the last....I simply have trouble grasping those. I mean,why do you write a story with no point? Isn't that a mere waste of words,space,brainpower,and all that stuff there? AGH! Now my head hurts!! But,though I would not prefer histories or sci-fi,I would,as mentioned,at least give them a once-through if asked.*goes to get ice pack for head* |
