Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
Um, what to say? I've beta'd unofficially for a while now, and I'm pretty decent at it. I look for spelling and grammar, as well as word usage. I tend to sugarcoat things, but I'll let you know when something is wrong. I'm also willing to just lend an ear if you need to bounce ideas around. I'd rather not have to deal with a rude writer who does not respect my efforts: You don't have to follow my advice, just acknowledge that I AM putting effort into making your story the best it can be. I won't write the story for you, but I will do the best I can to help you out. =) |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I'm usually good with spelling and grammar. I can also help with explainations, descriptive adjectives, and wording things so that they sound better. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I don't always catch everything; I'm only human. And I DO have tendency toward the following: Procrastination (I'll get it done eventually, but I'm easily distracted), Rambling, Overexplaining, Skimming, Over-betaing, and Tweaking sentences that are actually fine, but sound better to me switched around some. There are probably more that I'm forgetting, but... Oh. And characterization isn't a strong suit of mine: I usually deal with AUs. I can do it, but it's not something I'm especially good at. |
Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
I can deal with just *about* anything. As I said, though, I'm better with AU. I prefer to work with my OTPs. |
Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
1. Yuri (I love my lesbian friends, but it's awkward territory).2. Horror. I scare easy, and horror tends to stick to the inside of my brain. 3. Harry Potter. I've never read the books and would rather leave the fandom alone entirely. 4. Smut. I've written it, I've read it... But I'd really rather not Beta it. I may make exceptions to this one, but not often. 5. Pairings that I don't like. I prefer my OTPs. If it's well written, I might make exceptions, but probably not. 6. I'd REALLY prefer to work with things I know, but I'm willing to look into fandoms I'm unfamiliar with. |
