Beta Description
Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I am an avid reader who will beta/read most subject matter. I am fine with pretty much any style of writing, and I don't mind if I have to beta stories with poor grammar and spelling.

I would prefer to work with an author that wants to improve on their writing. I expect an author to approach me with a story that I can understand, even if there is bad spelling/grammar. As long as I can understand what the author is trying to bring across, I will beta it.

I am on the Internet pretty much everyday so I would be able to beta chapters and get them back to you pretty quickly(taking into account time difference).

I have been a member of fanfiction.net for about 3 years now, wrote a few stories and read countless fanfiction so I have got quite a good idea what readers enjoy. I have learnt from my own writing about how hard it is to write fanfiction for the first time (and how much you can improve) so I'm particularly interested in beta-ing for "new" authors.

I tend to get very attached to the characters in a story (particularly in Twilight or Sweep fanfiction) so I will try and keep the people I beta for motivated. I'm a pretty sympathetic/compassionate beta reader when it comes to authors losing inspiration, having writer's block or what I call Real Life Syndrome (RLS). I also understand how easy it is to stop writing for a while and how hard it can to get back on to the horse so to speak.

If I think a sentence/paragraph/phrase should be reworded, I will highlight it and put in a suggested alternative in brackets afterwards. It's ok if you don't use it and stay with the original - it's YOUR work so it's up to you. It's just a suggestion. I will also write comments either throughout the chapter or at the very end (whichever you prefer) to give the author some feedback so make sure you look over it and take away my comments before posting it.

My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I like to think I'm good at characterisation, and I do pay a lot of attention to that when reading other people's fanfiction. I will be honest if I think that something a character is doing is OOC (either in the fandom's character or the character you have created).

I'm also generally good at catching and correcting spelling and grammatical errors. I find myself mentally correcting other people's fanfiction when I read it.

I live in the UK so I could help American writers incorporate some English colloquial language if their story is set in England or anywhere in the UK and Republic of Ireland. I am also quite familiar with common American colloquialisms - for the most part.

I am very good at spotting when the wrong version of a word is used (eg. there/their/they're).

My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I'm not very good at writing endings of either the story or chapters so unfortunately I wouldn't be much help there if you need assistance thinking of a good ending sentence.

I'm also not very good at giving criticism. I can be pretty blunt about it but I do try to say it nicely.

I wouldn't be much help if you can't think of a good comeback or a "smart alec" joke.

As I am from the UK, I may change a correct American spelling to the English equivalent - fortunately, I've managed to educate myself in many of the different English-American spellings (eg. colour = color) so that shouldn't happen that often.

Finally, I tend to overuse commas and semi-colons but I am working to stop that.

Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
I would prefer to beta stories with some angst and romance in them, although that is not mandatory. As long as it's not pointless fluff the whole way through (as stated below) and has an actual storyline, I'll be willing to beta.

I would also prefer to beta stories with canon couples. In Twilight fanfiction, I don't really mind whether it is AU, canon or AH, as long as it's canon couples. In Harry Potter fanfiction, I would prefer to beta stories with pairings I'm interested in (particularly James/Lily, Harry/Ginny, Ron/Hermione and Lupin/Tonks) and I'm pretty much ok with anything in Sweep, The Mortal Instruments and Maximum Ride fanfiction. In Pride and Prejudice fanfiction, I'm fine with pretty much anything plot-wise although I would prefer not to beta a post-novel fanfiction.

As the main fanfiction category I read is Twilight, I would particularly like to beta Twilight fanfiction but I'm happy with Sweep, Harry Potter, Maximum Ride, The Mortal Instruments, etc. fanfiction as well.

Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
As I would prefer to only beta for stories that I can enjoy, slash (unless they're a canon couple) and non-canon couples are a no. I would also prefer not to beta poetry or a story that's basically all fluff with no actual plot.

I would also prefer to stick to fandoms I know reasonably well.

In relation to content, I'm fine with practically anything - lemons, limes, severe violence, rape, murder... I'm fine with beta-ing it all.
