Beta Description
Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
Well, hello there!br /

br /

My name is Dieuwtjin, or Dieuw in short. I've been kind of addicted to reading for a very long time, and thus i eventually found my way here to . I was pleasantly surprised to find that there were and still are quite a number of talented writers and good stories around. br /

br /

After reading a lot of work from others without reviewing them, i started to do so for my favorite authors. Now, i always tried to make VERY detailed reviews, the kind of ones that would go into the minor details of every story to pount out what felt illogical or why what was written there was an unexplained plothole. br /

br /

Some of those favorite authors then replied back with with kind words, and a few of them actually started to implement things i suggested into their stories, which also happened to be my favorite stories. In a way, i felt that i was actually influencing the way those stories played out, unlike published stories for which you just bought or rented the sequel and hoped that whatever the writer wrote was something you /

br /

It was quite a unique experience and thus i continued to do so for a while, occasionally indirectly discussing with others on how stories whould be written and why. In real life, i happen to know a lot of aspiring writers with which i have had similar discussions. There is something fascinating about it i guess...br /

br /

Anyway, somewhere along the way i realised that what i was doing was basically what a beta-reader did, but retroactively with reviews instead of trying to correct the flaws before the story was actually published. So then i decided to try and give it a shot, and thus i am here on this list along with other /

br /

Just one more fish in the pond, eh? :)br /

br /

What i expect from someone that might want me to beta read his or her story? br /

br /

Well, first and foremost, i'de prefer to beta-read a story that i can see evolve, so I'd like you to be determined to complete a story and not quit halfway through. br /

br /

Secondly, I'd like the writer to have put noticeable effort into it, both from a storyline and spelling/grammar/punctuation perspective. I'm here to help you, but not do all the work for you. It's your story, and i'll do my best to help you improve it, but in the end it's still your story and not /

br /

Lastly, i'd like you to be a friendly (and to a degree, reliable) person to work with :)br /

br /

Well, if you think those terms are reasoanble, I might be your guy.

My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I'm VERY good at finding mistakes in the overall plot of a story. I can find them to a level of extreme detail, such as a person making a remark referring to some fluff/background information that the characters have not recieved yet in this au. If it's there, there is a 99% chance i will find it. So don't worry :)br /

br /

I'm also good at character portrayal and i can relate to the emotional state the characters are put in very well. If a character reacts to something in a way that i find odd, i will let you know. Also, if i think that the character relationships are vague, unstable or unrealistic, i'll be the first to let you know. I'm nosy like that, but in a good /

br /

One of my other strong points is that i often think of interesting details, story opportunities and good advice that you might appreciate when writing a story. To name a recent example, when writing about prisoners breaking out of a jail, if they are forced to walk through forests on bare feet, it will be a painful and wounding experience for /

br /

Finally, i have a good sense of spelling, grammar and punctuation. I also have a good overall sense of how to write in proper English. I'll probably be able to find most of the errors that you might have missed in a story.

My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
My weakness: English is not my native language. While my overal mastery of it is pretty decent, i will probably not be able to catch all of your spelling/punctuation/grammar mistakes. I personally tend to focus more on storyline /

br /

One other thing is that I might not know of too many story worlds, but i know most of the current most popular ones on the site.

Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
I prefer stories that will continue on for certain amounts of time over one-shots. It just hightens the sense of accomplishment for me if it takes time for a fic to reach its (hopefully memorable) /

br /

I don't have a specific preference for what your story is about, as long as it is not one of the topics on the list below.

Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
I do not like to beta-read:br /

br /

-horror type storiesbr /

br /

-disturbing M rated content (torture/rape fics, psychotic killer fics, very graphic murder fics, etc.)br /

br /

-yaoi and yuri fics (sorry Mons... ;))
