Beta Description
Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
Though I’m fairly new to the world of fanfic, I’ve been writing original fiction since I could hold a pen (and I’ve been able to hold a pen for quite awhile). Though I enjoy writing fanfic, the truth is that I first got onto this site for the beta work.

As a beta, I’ll phrase my criticism as tactfully as possible and will never be deliberately mean, but if I see something that I think needs fixing, I will tell you so. I don’t expect you to take every last piece of advice I give you, but at least give some serious thought as to why I said what I did.

If you'd like me to beta for you please read my beta profile thoroughly first (especially the section on things I'd rather not do). If, having done so, you think I would be a good match for your story, then send me a short outline of your plot (it doesn't have to be formal or overly detailed; a rough sketch will do) as well as a link to the story if you've already started posting. I'd also like to know about the genre(s) of the story and any ships or pairings you have planned. I will get back to you within a week either way.

My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
English language: I have excellent spelling, grammar, and punctuation, and can tell you whether a sentence sounds awkward. I do expect anyone I work with to at least make an effort towards writing in proper English, which means using spellcheck at the very least. If you have some sort of handicap (you’re dyslexic or English is not your first language), please let me know ahead of time so I know what to expect.

Plot: I’m very good at checking stories for consistency (both internal and with canon) and at finding plot holes.

My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
Dialogue: I tend to have a hard time writing realistic-sounding dialogue. I’m also American, so if you're writing for Harry Potter fandom Brit-picking is obviously not my forte.

Erotic: I have no experience whatsoever at editing sex scenes and would honestly rather not read them either. Not a deal-breaker, but if you do have more lemony stuff in your story you should seriously consider getting a second person to look over those particular scenes.

Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
Genre: Drama, angst, and action/adventure are my favorites. I’m also fond of hurt/comfort.

Harry Potter fandom: my favorite pairings are Sirius/Remus, Ron/Hermione, and Dumbledore/Grindelwald, though for this particular fandom I’m fairly laid-back and can deal with pretty much any pairing as long as it’s believably written and within certain limits (see below for details).

DBZ fandom: Piccolo-centric stories, especially (non-romantic) stories centered around his relationship with Gohan. I also like stories that give characters who aren't Goku a piece of the action for a change.

A:tLA fandom: Any sort of friendship or family-oriented stories; my personal favorite is the father/son relationship between Zuko and Iroh. I also like action and adventure.

Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
Genre: Romance (I don’t mind romantic subplots, but pure romance is just not my cup of tea) or long humor fics, which I’ve found don’t hold my attention past a few chapters. Short or oneshot humor I’m okay with.

General Pairings: Under no circumstances will I beta any fic containing erotic rape, or rape-as-love. I also won’t do incest, and I hold this rule for adoptive relationships as well as biological ones. I don't like intergenerational pairings, but since I'm aware that aging rates can vary depending on species, here's a general guide - if it would result in jail time and sex offender status in real life, one of the characters is literally old enough to be the other's father or mother, or one character took any part in raising the other, I won't do the pairing. In addition, I like to stick with pairings that are physically possible - if you have to ask, you should probably look for someone else.

Next Gen: I'd rather stick with characters that are fairly well-developed in canon, so I'd rather not do stories centered around fringe characters or canon characters' children or descendents. I might make exceptions for DBZ on this count, though.

DBZ general: I'm not too fond of Goku-centric stories; I thought he got too much attention in canon as is.

DBZ pairings: The idea of Piccolo romantically involved with anyone is kind of enough to make my brain short-circuit, so no Piccolo romances, please. I'm also not too fond of Goku/Bulma; though I won't go so far as to say this is a deal-breaker, I've always seen them as having more of a brother/sister type relationship, so if you want me to consider this pairing, you're really going to have to sell it to me. Other than that, I'm good with anything that meets my general pairing conditions as listed above.

A:tLA: NO SHIPPING FICS. This is non-negotiable.

Other: No character-bashing or hatefics. Mpreg really grosses me out. I'm not too fond of Mary Sues either - once again, if you have to ask, you should probably look for someone else.

Other than that, while I'll consider beta editing crossovers, keep in mind that if I'm not familiar with one of the fandoms I won't be able to do as good a job as I would like. I'll have to have at least a passing familiarity with all of the fandoms involved in order to accept the story.
