Salutations! You've stumbled across my beta reader profile, and I salute you for your ability to navigate into the abyss of unpopular user names! Self depreciation aside, here's a bit about me, my capabilities, and my expectations.br/br /br / br/br / br / I am consistently available, be it in the forum of your choice. Site contact, email, or instant messangers are all things I have and are willing to talk with you, over. br /br / br / br/br / br / I am prompt to get back to you when you contact me. Of course, this is barring (expected) vacations - but these are rare for me.br /br / br / br/br / br / I will be honest, fair, and unbiased in my comments. I can be an extremely tactful person, but what's the use of pretty language if it means that the heart of the matter is missed? While I am not abrasive or insulting, I am staunch in sharing my honest opinion. If you have a sensitive nature, then we may not get along well.br /br / br / br/br / br / In return, all that I expect is an open mind. I may point things out - phrasing, or dialogue or word choice - that I see alternatives for. Do not dismiss me on principle. I don't expect you to make every and all change that I point out, but perhaps you would just take a moment to abandon self-righteous pride (as we all must have, as writers) and see if my suggestion holds merit. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
Characterization is a strong point of mine. I can very easily see different depths in personality and I always endeavor to make characters multilayered as to ensure their realism.br/br /br / br/br / br / Dialogue - be it of the witty sort or somber, I tend to have a grasp on what can evoke emotion.br/br / br / br/br / br / Word choice and fluidity of phrasing, along with detail to the physical situation, not just the thought process and actions of characters.br/br / br / br/br / br / Intricate plots that, while both fantastic, could be considered realistic. I'm very good with plot development, particularly when it pertains to characterization. br/br / br / br/br / br / Relationships between characters, and I say this not merely as from romantic point of view. The nature of friendship or even that of enemies has nuanced emotion and reason behind it that I enjoy paying attention to. For this reason, relationships addressed in fanfiction don't need to be canon for me to enjoy them. So long as the characterization is logical and makes sense from an emotional level, I can work with it happily! |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
Grammar, punctuation, sentence structure. As much as I love the english language, it does not love me! I'm a prolific abuser of the comma and the hyphen. If you're looking for a story to be beta'd in a grammatical sense, unfortunately I'm not going to be much help. |
Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
Naruto, Saiyuki, Code Geass, Bleach, Inu Yasha, Yu Yu Hakusho, Harry Potter, Final Fantasy, Vampire Knight. These are all of the "fandoms", so to speak, that I'm exceptionally familiar with and I feel that I have a grasp of the characters presented in the story. However, my repertoire extends beyond this, if you require. I may need a bit of time to re familiarize myself with characters or plots, but I'm more than willing to attempt it if you wish. |
Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
Yaoi. Or Yuri. I can beta citrus-y things without a problem, but unfortunately the dynamic of same-sex relationships outside of friendship escape me to the point of rendering me inefficient. If you ask me to beta a story not covered in my 'preferred' sections, I'll give you the disclaimer that it's probably not in a fandom I'm well versed or at all knowledgeable in and may not be as effective in beta'ing because of it. |
