I enjoy fiction of all kinds, but there has to be at least a basic plot for me to work with. What I do is look for grammar and readability. Also, I look at how well the author has done his or her research, as well as how realistic the character reactions are. If a character is stabbed and it takes two pages before he recognizes the pain then there is a problem. I like to give a story several read-throughs before returning it to an author. br /

What I expect: I expect you to read your work first. If you have a bunch of errors that a single read-through would reveal, I'm going to send it back to you. (If you are dyslexic, please notify me in advance.) The best thing to do is to read the story out loud to yourself. The ear will pick up what the eye does not. br /

Once you do that, I will look at it for both story and grammar. I won't have my main focus on grammar on this read-through unless it hampers my ability to read the story or you request it. I want to help you make a better story. I will question everything from a minor detail to a major plot issue. As a reader, I know that even one hair out of place can be annoying if it's in the wrong spot.

I'm good at grammar and obsessive with spelling. If I see something that's confusing or written incorrectly, I'll shout it out. I'm better with more adult fiction because I can be more blunt and not hold back on my ideas for improvement. I guess that's a weakness too.

I'm blunt. If something sounds funny or is incorrect to the original story, I will say something about it. Sometimes, I get things wrong. If I say something obviously wrong, I will probably go back and fix it, but sometimes I'm slow to realize that. As a perfectionist, I may take a while to edit long chapters. I'm in school, so homework takes priority.

I prefer manga, anime, adult books, and older movies. I enjoy any genre except western (although if you can sell it to me, I'll give it a go anyway), and love reading stories that suck me in. Also, while I have no bias against such things, I'm generally not interested in crack-fics. I prefer more mainstream pairings, whether they're in the original work or not, and whether they are hetero or not.

I do not beta for stories who's original fiction I haven't read. I hate fics where the person has no idea what they're talking about: Hint, hint, do research. Un-researched stories are against my better judgement to beta.
