Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I love proof-reading, generally. Helping out in grammar, style, seeing people become better writers is why I think this is great; and I don't care what I get to read, so long as it isn't beyond help. I only help if you actually show you are trying to do a good job. If it is clear you are some 12 year old trying to write a lemon and you have IM chat in your fiction, such as things like "teh" and just incredibly lazy typing overall, I won't touch it. Show you want to have good fiction that you can write yourself. We're just here for little mistakes that everyone misses, or really vague situations. To contact, use Windows Live Messenger, or Email my hotmail account, and I'll take a look; the former for quick questions, the latter for big editing jobs. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I am quite obsessed with grammar. Punctuation, word usage, word order (as varied as it is in English), and such, I value and excel at noticing and correcting. Many find this only a minor issue, but how well you can communicate yourself to the rest of the world matters, so it is good to care early on, rather than starting to care after people notice your mistakes. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I'm not so great with "sayings/expressions," and style I find a bit more opinion-based, so I can't/won't say much about that. It's hard to be wrong out-right with your writing style, unless it's grammatically incorrect, which I can cover already. |
Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
I like two things about all literature: Plot, and theme. Generally, I'll read anything that has these two heavily through-out the story, and genre I consider of minimal importance. I also value a certain maturity behind plot and theme. There's only so much you can say in K (sometimes T even, so I vastly would prefer M rated material, lemons or no), that has a deep meaning. Takes something out of our world and into a fictitious context, and be powerful. So please, M only. I may try some T, but mostly M is what I'll look at. |
Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
Ever single thing that doesn't fit what I prefer. Mild, boring stories that are quaint, short, love-based, things that are purely event-based, and not theme based.Don't be politically correct; war is bad, no life can be sacrificed, everyone's equal, etc., I don't want to see too much of it. It really shows how unoriginal you are, how little you can add to a reader's perspective on things. Wow, I'm giving advice through here... ahaha... |
