Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
To start, I've been told I'm a harsh editor. This is because I'm picky; I catch pretty much every mistake made in terms of grammar and spelling. Also, if I think I can help you make a sentence sound better, I'm not afraid to tell you so. Still, I'm not cruel or anything, I'm just a bit of a perfectionist. I have a fairly extensive vocabulary, so I'm good at helping people find the right words for /br / I am extremely tolerant. I was raised religious, but I personally am an agnostic, which means that I'm okay with mentions of religion or atheism in stories. I'm fine with any sort of pairings, straight, bi, lesbian, gay or what have you. It is virtually impossible to offend me with any ideas you may have-so go ahead, send me a PM, see what happens. I don't bite. :)br / br / Unfortunately, I happen to currently be in the middle of a difficult course load (I'm actually neglecting an essay right now to update this, oops), so it's possible I may be too busy to beta at certain times. If that's the case, though, I'll tell you as much. If it's not, I'll try to have my work done and back to you within three days, provided you aren't asking me to beta an entire novel length story in one / br / Umm... that pretty much covers it. :) |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I am very good at noticing mistakes in grammar/spelling, mostly because they're my pet peeves. I also find mistakes in punctuation quite easily. I'm usually good at helping with sentence flow and structure. I'm decent at poetry (free-form), and slightly less impressive with rhyme schemes. Plot flow and characterization are also usually specialties of mine. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
My writing style tends to include long sentences and a large number of commas. This is all correctly used, but also happens to clash with some writers' styles. I am, quite frankly, awful at anything to do with rhyming words, so please don't ask for my help where that is concerned. :) |
Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
I have no preferences with pairings (canon or off-canon both work for me.) I do prefer stories that aren't OOC and don't have too many OCs, but I can handle a few OCs here and there, especially if they're well written. Also, nothing horribly tragic (I like good angst sometimes, but I tend to lean more towards happy romantic stories). I will cheerfully read both AUs and works set in the original, canon universe. |
Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
Anything with self inserts, or cursing every other word, and that's really it. I don't mind cursing to a certain degree, provided a character isn't cursing every other word just because they can. I don't like when people try to post original stories here, but that's the end of my major /br / If you've read through this and your story doesn't match any of the things listed in this section, go ahead and PM me! |
