Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
To quote an awesome internet meme, Y HELLO THAR! As you probably know, my name is Dwarfstar; you may also refer to me as Panthon, Diamondback Panthon, Carnivore, Carnie, or Smish. I've been told I'm a relatively laid-back, easygoing person, and also a somewhat demented one. I'll betaread just about anything good that comes my way. And by good, I mean no Mary-Sues, good plot, good characters, that kinda stuff. Also, if you're just starting out, then while I'm not the most experienced writer ever, I'm willing to share what I know, and offer the advice I can; all you have to do is ask. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I'm pretty durn good at finding spelling mistakes, grammar mistakes, and fixing GIANT TEXT BLOCKS OF DOOOM (and other paragraph stuff). I'm also okay at giving advice with paraphrasing, using description without going on and on, and catching little details like minor plot contradictions and that kind of thing, as well as adding a little humor and advice for developing characters who've been shoved out of the way somewhat due to a large cast. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I'm not that good with keeping long passages of dialogue interesting; I haven't really tried any major action scenes yet, so I'm not so sure about those; I'm not so good at catching stuff like forgetting to mention who's talking, as can be evidenced in my stories to some extent; and if you don't watch me and keep me in my place, I may start to subconsciously take over your plot and characters and try to change them somewhat, so if I start to do that speak out and put me in my place. |
Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
I would love to beta humor fics, adventure fics, fics with lots of characters, and fics that are medium-length to uber-long. I will also gladly beta for relatively low-rated romance fics that don't involve too much steamy content (DEFINITELY no M-rated fics), and fics that don't have any serious swearing (if it regularly has the 's-word' or worse, no beta). |
Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
As previously stated, absolutely no M-rated (fore explicit content) stuff or excessive swearing; I'll do short fics, but I like to do good long stuff much more. If it has torture scenes, then no way; if it's pretty steamy, even if it isn't rated M; I'll tolerate a bit of crude humor, but if it gets too explicit then I won't beta for it; I don't mind if there's some blood, and a little violence, but nothing too terribly gory; no incest; and finally,
ABSOLUTELY NO SLASH IN ANY WAY, FORM OR FASHION. (okay, if you're making fun of it, then it's fine, but this only goes for humor fics, and it CANNOT be taken as a serious pairing, period.) |
