The only people I've done this for so far in my life are already both fairly accomplished writers. One has impeccable style, and the other sends rough drafts still laden with formatting and grammatical errors. I like to provide feedback on the actual content of a story, but if you want, I can also point out any awkward wordings or downright mistakes. If you would rather I didn't focus on spelling on conventions, I can leave those edits up to you and only comment on the actual story. Generally speaking, character development is important to me, so my critiques will often center around characters and relationships. I love to point out things that impress me, and am not afraid to explain when things don't.

I'm told that my questions are very helpful. Based on the things I ask you, you'll be able to tell what the most dim-witted reader might be confused about in your work, and you can decide from there whether or not something needs further explanation.

I'm pretty good at spotting a spelling error, and I enjoy spoilers. I don't demand or expect spoilers, but if you need to ask if something down the line would be good, don't worry about ruining it for me. I'm the person who reads the end of a book before the beginning. I like to think that I have a pretty good eye for flow. I can tell you where different word choices might enhance your work significantly, point out redundancies, and identify sections that might leave a reader wanting for more detail. I read quite a lot, and I am happy to help if you need it.

My weaknesses... I'm not sure what they'd be for beta reading, to be perfectly honest. Perhaps I can be too positive at times, but I don't choose to ignore something I dislike in a story. My feedback can be very lengthy. When I am talking about something that confused me (or something I'd consider a negative criticism), I tend to worry about hurting a person's self-esteem and therefore over-analyze the issue. Most people just say that it's cute of me to worry so much, and take the comment appreciatively. I can organize my thoughts, but one thing I doubt I'll ever be is concise.

I prefer stories with at least a little romance, but it's not a requirement. I don't have the strength to list all of the fandoms I'm already familiar with, so if you want me to read something I don't have any background to, I'll let you know that's the case and read up on the franchise you're writing for. If it's anime, I can do it, but there are novels and games I'd need to research a bit.

When it comes to romantic threads, I prefer and have most experience with slash fiction--of course, my scope is not so limited as to say that that is exclusive, so heterosexual romance is welcome, as well.

No Harry Potter. No Lord of the Rings. I don't hate LOtR, but my interests within it are so narrow and I know so little about it that I'd never be helpful. For Harry Potter, there are many other people that can help you, so don't give up looking. I just personally dislike that fandom.

And I am open to new things, however, stories that rely heavily on furry themes or male pregnancies will make me queasy. I don't think you're a bad person if you like those things--I am merely repelled by them personally.
