Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I'm a college student, a senior double majoring in English and Writing, so I have a lot of experience with writing, editing, and copy-editing. I enjoy reading other people's work and helping out when and where I can. I do expect that people have read through the story themselves before sending it on to me, and that they care about what they write. I also expect that people seeking betareaders are comfortable with constructive criticism. I'm happy to help out and offer myself as a sacrifice...er, betareder, and I know everyone misses a typo or two (I do, certainly. I caught about 10 typos in a story I published almost a year ago. Yikes!), and I know I'm always looking for suggestions on how to make my writing and my stories better, and I believe other people are as well. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I'm great with grammar and syntax, so if you're a skilled writer but have trouble with the technical aspects and want someone to look it over before you publish, I'm the person to go to. Like I said, I have a lot of experience with copy editing.My main genres are fantasy, anime, and Final Fantasy VII. Those are my chief interests and what I'm most comfortable writing myself, and therefore those are the areas in which I'll be the most help as regards ideas and canon. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I'm pretty busy, trying to finish two majors and get ready for graduation in May. Therefore, it sometimes takes me a little bit of time to get back to a writer on a story. |
Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
I'm willing to beta on fandoms I'm not familiar with, but things are definitely easier for everyone involved if I know what I'm working with. I've read a lot of novels, from classics to contemporary, so feel free to ask me whether or not I've read something; the same goes for movies. My main fandom is Final Fantasy VII and all its sequels/prequels, and I know pretty much all there is to know, so if that's what you're writing, you're golden. I'm also familiar with Final Fantasy VIII and Final Fantasy X, as far as video games go. The animes I'm most familiar with are Loveless, Gravitation, Kyo Kara Maoh, Fullmetal Alchemist, Saiyuki, DNAngel, and Mirage of Blaze, but feel free to ask about anything else. I'll read anything from yaoi, to het, to yuri, to no pairings, any and all ratings, from fluff to dark fiction. I'l take hurt/comfort, rape, character death, bloodplay, violence, self-mutilation, anything your mind can think up. I also love humor and sweet things, romances, and all that yada. I can take anything you throw at me, and there's probably not a damn thing out there that really squicks me, including tentacles. (Though that wasn't always the case...) |
Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
Hmm...I'm pretty sure there's not anything I just would not betaread. Like I said, I prefer to read for fandoms I'm familiar with. And I'm not too fond of Barret stories and Cid stories, as far as FF7 is concerned, though I will read them if asked. If I think of anything else, I'll let you know... |
