First things first, I am a male college student whose native language is english. I have been involved sporadically with fanfiction since I joined this site in early 2007.

While beta-reading a story, I would prefer if the stories had already been gone over by the author at least once for spelling and grammatical errors. I do not expect all such problems to be removed, but the story should at least be readable. I am not very good at keeping to a schedule while writing stories, nor do I expect you to be.

I will try my best to be prompt in reading a story and returning my thoughts on it.

I have a good eye for grammatical, spelling, and punctuation mistakes, as well as being able to catch sentences or phrases which could be vague or open to multiple interpretations. I also am a strong stickler for internal consistency, and will be quick to point out possible issues as they become apparent.

My writing tends towards short, too-the-point descriptions rather than long or fancy descriptions.

I may sometimes be somewhat lenient, and let things slide in terms of story which may not be such a good idea. Since I am aware of this flaw and try to minimize the extent to which it appears in my reviews, I may also occasionally overcompensate and be too strict.

I love stories. It would take far too much space to list all of the series that I'd be willing to read stories for, but if it's included in the list of specific series in my preferences section, it means I'd at least be willing to take a look at the story. If I've written a story for that particular series, chances are that I'd be more than happy to read your story.

Moving on to the type of content I'd prefer, I don't particularly care about length for action-based stories. Romances are good for reading as well, but tend to lose my interest the longer they become (although I'd still be willing to try them. Who knows, this might end up being the one that manages to fully capture my attention).

I love stories with original characters. I think it's a shame that works containing them are sometimes stigmatized simply because the author wanted to expand the cast beyond what was in the original work. Now, with that being said, I like original characters who are well written and fit in with the way the setting was established in the original work. Expect this to be a major focus point if I choose to beta-read a story containing original characters.

While there is very little that I would outright reject, humour stories are often hit-or-miss with me. As mentioned above, long-running stories whose sole (or major) focus is romance tend to lose my interest, although this is not a problem with shorter romances.

Finally, while I won't outright refuse to read it, I am probably not the best choice of beta-reader if you have a yaoi story. I will read them if asked, but do not read such stories on a regular basis, and much better feedback on them would be received by sending them to somebody who is more inclined to read them in the first place.
