Beta Description
Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
As a beta reader, I am as honest as possible. Sometimes brutally so, but I feel that if someone comes to me and asks for editorial assistance, I would be selling them short if I let them go with something that doesn't look or sound right, without letting them know first. I am busy with school now, but if you write a good sized chapter, I will read it. I prefer nice, long, detailed chapters to messy, choppy, short ones. Short chapters do not give suspense. They give dissatisfaction. This is not fair to the reader. I also cannot stand stories that have "Sorry, bad at summaries." in the description. If you are no good at a one sentence summary, then I fear your paragraphs and chapters. All stories will require good summaries, or none at all. Ones that can hint to the story, but not give away the whole plotline, like most do. I've noticed recently that there are trends in fanfiction that people seem to follow.I've even seen some of my own fanfictions horribly ripped off. Yes, imitation is the highest form of flattery, but this bothers me. 'So and so gets pregnant.' 'So and so has sex with their teacher.' 'So and so is a prostitute.' It bothers me! Where is the raw originality? I don't want to waste my time editing someone's story when I know we can read one just like it somewhere else on fanfiction.net. Different. Raw. Energetic. Fun. Sexy. Really though, I am a very nice person, and hopefully a friendship can ensue from this. We can all learn from each other. I want to be the best author I can be, and I want the same for everyone else in the world who has imagination and loves to write.
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I have taken AP English all the way through high school and I am now in university, intending to obtain a major in English. I am very particular to detail, dialogue, and the realism of it all. "Would he really say this?" "Would she really react like that?" It's questions like these that will really bring you characters to life or even give them a twist so they really be come your own pieces of art and not a character that you jacked from another author.
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
Sentence structure is my curse. I put periods and commas in places they aren't needed sometimes. That is where I need help and hopefully I can learn by reading some new, great stuff. Spellchecker is my friend. I don't feel secure without it (like now). It's always nice to have.
Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
Mature stories preferably. That is all. Why? Because I am not 13 years old anymore, haha. There is a quote my English teacher once told me that I will never forget. "There is a time in every story or play when someone just has to say 'fuck!" It's just more real that way. That's what we aim for. There is more room to play around with the art of dialogue and imagery. You write with no restraint. Frankly, I never read stories that are rated lower than M. They're just boring.
Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
I'm up for absolutely anything. Honestly. Try to amaze me or freak me out. I like that. Just make sure we haven't all heard it like, 20 times before.
