Well, first of all I'd like to say that I LOVE editing papers and stories and the like, probably more than writing even, which I bet sounds really strange. As such I'm pretty much willing to do almost anything - I love getting to experience other people's writing, mostly because it helps me improve as an individual and shake my own writing up a bit. That said, I don't have too many expectations......most of what I expect/think about being a beta will be in the following questions, and I don't really see the point in repeating myself. I will be very blunt and very honest, so if you'd be offended by that, it's probably best not to get involved. Chances are papers will be returned coated with red marks (or whatever mark editing will leave on the computer), but most of it will be my opinion that you have no obligation to abide by.
Also, on a side note: if anyone would like a sample of my writing, just email me. I'd hardly consider my work posted on this site high-quality, and I've really grown a lot as a writer since some of the postings anyway.

"Honesty is not boasting," according to this question. I have to say that I really, really dislike acknowledging any strengths because it somehow sounds like bragging to me, but I suppose I'll have to say something, otherwise no one will want to "employ my services." I actually really love editing pieces of work - I always do my friends' papers - so I suppose I've had quite a bit of experience. Generally I'd work on sentence structure, making sure pieces fit together and the writing flows right, and grammer/punctuation issues. I'm also on the lookout for passive voice, which I find very irritating (despite having an absolute TON in all of these questions..... :P)I wouldn't exactly suggest specific scenes or dialogue to add in, although I could if it was wanted. I'm also pretty good at editing things fast - which is the complete opposite to actually writing/updating for me, seeing as THAT usually takes forever and a day. :)

Weaknesses.....I tend to over-edit things, a lot of the time, almost until the work becomes nearly half-mine, instead of mostly-yours. Generally I'd make a lot of suggestions, perhaps reword sentences and such, but you will never have to go along with it. Like I say, if I over-edit something, I wouldn't be offended in the least if most of my suggestions weren't utilized.

Things I'd prefer? I don't really care, honestly. If someone likes writing happy-go-lucky, really cliche stuff, though, don't expect me to be sympathetic. I love all the realistic stuff, even if it's depressing and ESPECIALLY if it's tragic. :)

I'd be willing to do anything, really....of course, I would like to have read whatever it was I'd be editing; but other than that, yeah, anything.
