Beta Description
Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I am a third-year college student studying English Literature and Theater at a small, private university on the East Coast. I love to read and write, and when I'm not imagining up my *own* fan-fiction, I enjoy perusing the work of others. All that I ask in a beta submission is that a multi-chapter piece not be abandoned without warning, that parodies be tasteful and have a point (comedy is more funny when it actually makes sense), and that obscenities are not extraneous.
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
As an English major and "retired" news editor, I am meticulous when it comes to diction, sentence structure and believability. Typos will not be passed over, and if your syntax could be approved (without altering your story's flow), I will let you know.
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
As a critic, I try not to be too harsh. While this might be a "strength" for some, it could also mean that I'm not fully "beta-ing" your piece. It would be helpful if, when requesting a review, you lay out the extent to which you want me to nit-pick.
Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
I'm open to most stories, but there are certainly categories that I (as a plain old fan or as a fic-writer) am best "qualified" to read over: Harry Potter, Doctor Who, House, M.D., CSI, historical fiction, C.S. Lewis. If I think that my lack of familiarity with a subject will hinder my reviewing process, I will let you know, so don't hesitate to pass along something that doesn't *fit* into those listed.
Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
Yaoi and/or overly sexual situations aren't my thing. I don't mind a spot here and there when it's tasteful, but smut for the sake of smut just doesn't make for good literature.
