Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
Well, let's see...I'm a high school student, who has aced every class in his life...with the exception of Physical Education and Advanced Chemistry. I almost failed those...moving on! Writing stories is my second-greatest interest; my first would be video games. The written word can truly be a magnificent thing if used correctly. And, if I can help others express their true emotions through extensive vocabulary, why not?I'm good with any format or genre: horror in script, comedy in novel, a piece of mystery poetry, etc. Just try to make things make sense, okay? I work free of charge...unless, you consider mentioning in your story that I was of assistance to be a charge. Should you seek my help, I would like it very much if: A) You listened to suggestions I make. You don't have to change your story because I suggested it; just make me know that my words aren't going through one ear and out the other. B) Please, PLEASE, be able to write comprehensible sentences. If I don't know what the heck somebody is saying or doing, that is a BAD thing. Try to stay away from leet-speak, and lists of actions (he did this, then that, then this other thing, then that stuff, and then this...). DON'T stay away from punctuation, capitals in the correct locations, and the 'Enter' button on your keyboard. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
Well, if you want something well-written, I'm the kind of guy you'd want. If you think you're missing something, or you want a good plot idea, I can probably think of a few good suggestions within the first few minutes after reading something. I can guarentee good work, almost every time. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I get a little too picky about the little things sometimes. Forget a period? It's kinda annoying. Accidentally lump a major section of your chapter into one big paragraph? I, for one, would fix it before sending it over.If you need some input by a specific time...sorry; can't help you there. If you've read my stories, you should know that few (if any) have an ending uploaded yet. I assure you, I've written the next chapters; I just haven't found the time to proofread, upload, and all the other tasks needed before it's available to the public. What with high school, video game time, and other stuff in my life, it's hard to get some good writing time in. Also, I am Canadian. We tend to put a 'u' in words where there aren't any in America (such as 'favour'). Just a little tidbit. |
Preferred: types of stories I prefer over others
I am a MAJOR video game fan. If I haven't played a game you're writing fiction about, I can get enough information to be a compendium of knowledge in seconds. I know some anime and manga: Death Note, Fullmetal Alchemist, Muhyo & Roji: BSI, and .hack/SIGN consist of only a portion of my interests. As for categories such as literature and movies, you'd best be finding somebody else. Also, although I've read and given good reviews for some downer fics, I prefer happy endings. If the guy and girl (or yaoi/yuri couple) destined to love each other end up dying at/before the end, or are forced to part ways forever...well, that's too tragic for me. Love has to prevail, gosh darn it! Don't we get enough tragedies in the daily news? |
Would Rather Not: I do not beta for these stories
Eh...try not to be 'trendy'. If everyone else writes a yaoi fic about two lead characters, what's so different about yours? And speaking of yaoi, though I am perfectly fine with having two guys or two girls in relationships, that does not mean that I do not personally find it 'icky' in some way or another. Also, stick away from stuff 'that everybody has heard of before'. I'm kind of an outcast from society, so chances are, I HAVEN'T heard of it before. If it's crucial to include something like song lyrics in a chapter, at least try to get me a link to some Wikipedia or YouTube page that'll let me know what the music is supposed to represent. |
