First of all, I like stories where there is a very well rounded character, plots that are not cliche, use of correct grammar, and lots of character development. If your story does not meet any of those requirements and you ask me to be your beta reader, I will give back very harsh critiques. I would also like to mention that "..." bugs me to no end. Whenever I see an author with a Author's Note at the beginning like this:
"So...this is my story...I promise you it's actually a very good story...please read and review"
When I read something like that, I just want to grab the author's head and smash it against a wall. I would have much rather preferred it if it had been either in full sentences, or a new line rather than the "..."s. If I see a story with an author's note like that, I close it immediately.
Another big factor (for me) is the summary. The "..."s in summaries makes me want to grab my hair and pull them straight from the roots. Thank my lucky stars that I'm very good at containing myself, or I'd be bald by now.
So back to summaries; if you are going to ask me to beta your story, I would like to see what you would put in as your summary too because I feel that summaries can make the difference between having 10 readers or 1000 readers. I like summaries that help draw readers in. It doesn't have to be long, just something that leaves the readers intrigued.
Lastly, I need an author who would actually finish their story. I will be committed as long as you are committed. If you do so not update your story, I will bother you. *evil smile*
