While I may not have a degree in English or Creative Writing, I absolutely pride myself on my grasp of the language and ability to structure writing within a story. I've been writing (mostly for myself, but not solely) for over a decade now, at a rather constant rate, always working to improve and striving to craft stories better. I am always reading new books and immersing myself in the world, trying to broaden my understanding of how, exactly, to write effectively and really make my own writing come alive - and I want to help others find that too! In beta-reading, I do focus quite a bit on grammar and the technical aspects of writing, but that's the legwork required in the background to get really good at telling the stories inside your head. Once you feel confident there, you can let the technical side become innate while you focus on really developing your story rather than worrying about all the nitpick-y things. I also want to help with the development, with finding the best scenarios to convey your plot, and overall making the whole story come to life. In any prospective beta-reading situation, I would like to edit and comment on a single chapter as a sort of trial run, to see if the arrangement works for both of us. I'll never take offense if you decide it's not the right fit! Everybody is different and it's important to find a beta-reader/editor who really gels with you. I like working via email and MS Word, the latter being more of a requirement - it's an excellent platform and what I'm most familiar with, so I'll be most effective using that. Plus, I own it already. In case there are any concerns - I am comfortable with profanity, adult content, and anything similar. Also all gender identities et cetera are welcome. Grammar, dialogue (paragraph cuts/usage of quotation marks), person (1st, 2nd, 3rd) and limited perspectives, and general flow of speech/writing voice. I recognize how difficult it can be to find your writing voice and get really confident in your writing, so new writers just starting out won't be turned away.

I am a sucker for long-winded explanations and HATE cutting scenes down. Usually I add more than less. And I am wretched at ending stories, for the most part.

I usually prefer stories in my own fandoms - I am familiar with more than what I write in, though, and if it's asked of me to beta outside a fandom I know, I'm happy to give it a shot. However I will probably strictly comment and edit grammar and nothing more, due to lack of familiarity with the character and storyline. Homophobic/transphobic characters (unless they're antagonists), mostly - and I have a few universes I dislike enough to turn down. Otherwise, I'll take a look at just about anything.
