I think I've recently come across another beta-reader who had this in their profile: DO NOT LET ME CONTROL YOUR STORIES!!! As a rule, I'm an author AND a reader. Sometimes the author part zips into overdrive. You need to be specific as to how you want me to beta: do you just want me to mop up your grammar/spelling errors? Would you like me to suggest synonyms and imagery and uses of alliteration? Do you want me to just give you an honest opinion on the plot? Don't ask me to beta unless you're entirely capable of telling me EXACTLY what you want. I follow orders. :salutes:

Oh. And also, I suggest you not ask me (or anyone) to beta unless you like my writing style, or unless its compatible with yours.

Grammar and spelling errors I clean up well. I'll also...what's the word? Spice up your fic if you want me to. Similes, metaphors, allusions, that sort of stuff.

Brutal honesty is not me. I will always try to spare your feelings while delivering the most truthful report I can. If it sucks, I WILL beat around the bush and probably not pay you a direct compliment. Unless we know each other well enough that I feel comfortable enough to tell you off for writing that piece of crap.

Oneshots. I revel in oneshots. I take joy in oneshots. Oneshots are fajitas for my brain. Mmmm.

Multichaptered story are basically a firm NO. Long term commitments are NOT my thing. Unless I've seen you write long fics before, unless I absolutely adore the ground you walk on, unless you give me a defined plot and chapter estimate, I'm unlikely to accept such fics.
