1976. Few people in Chicago notice when an irritant reporter named Carl Kolchak disappears. A police officer breathes easier here, an editor groans in exasperation there. And a fresh young English assassin finds himself rather seriously inconvenienced.

The Doctor and Jamie McCrimmon arrive in Chicago as Carl Kolchak is preoccupied with a series of mysterious cases where healthy people are begin found comatose in the city's alleyways. As the Doctor and Jamie get caught up in these happenings, as well, they all soon discover that the source of the trouble is a powerful, ancient being bent on revenge and destruction.

A series of murders once plagued Detroit, which Tony Ferano and Carl Kolchak tried in vain to solve. Now the murders have started again, in L.A. It isn't long before Kolchak and Tony become involved again, along with Micky and company and the D.A.

Written for the original series. Carl Kolchak is pitted against a kind of evil even he is having trouble comprehending: the psychopathic and sadistic Yami Marik. And before it's over, the case may end up trying Kolchak's heart and soul as never before.
