After being abandoned by his father in his youth, Shinji Ikari ends up being adopted by his uncle. His uncle happens to be an Admiral leading the various ship-girls in the war against the Abyssal Fleet. Several years later, Shinji now follows the same path as his Uncle just in time for the beginning of the war against the angels.
