Author has written 8 stories for Ninja Turtles, Harry Potter, Merlin, Percy Jackson and the Olympians, and Star Trek: 2009. I'm old enough to know better... but I'm too young to care. I have loved to write since I was in junior high, it was the only way that I could stave off boredom. However, due to some other skills (most noticeably in math) my parents and teachers convinced me to give engineering a try. Which I did. Engineering school shoves the last 200 years of human innovation into your head in 4 years. Your head is never again the same. Certain things start to sound repetitive... The laws of thermodynamics aren't much different from the laws of motion, which all stem from the most basic laws of physics. Other things are just plain weird... imaginary numbers are necessary to bring power into my house for my laptop... whose brain consists of silicon semiconductors that at the most basic level only know two things... on and off.. 0 and 1... yes or no... binary operations. But after conquering mathematics and physics, and honing my brain into a problem solving machine, I found myself drawn back to written word. And since I have no background for it... I had to get myself. The nice thing is that writers write books about writing. Allithea, my penname, means to heal, to restore oneness. Some Essential Books for the Writer: 1. The Elements of Style. (I don't care if you have a Master's Degree in English. This is a great resource for everybody) 2. Writing the Blockbuster Novel. Albert Zuckerman... he's a Literary Agent, and his his book helped me understand why I liked the books that I did. 3. The First Five Pages by Noah Lukeman. Another excellent book about writing. Some things I've learned: 1. The best writing is simple. 2. Simple writing is tough to do. Thanks for stopping by! Alli |
