Author has written 10 stories for Hunger Games, Dragon Age, Avatar: Last Airbender, Naruto, X-overs, Fate/stay night, Legend of Korra, My Hero Academia/僕のヒーローアカデミア, and Bleach. Hello, interwebs. I am Lord Winterman. I am an aspiring writer starting out with fan-fiction. Since you're here, please read, review, leave a message, or what have you. Tell a friend, if you feel so inclined. I can (sort of) be found on Facebook here: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Lord-Winterman-Purveyor-of-Insanity/903052586405531?fref=nf I am also on DeviantArt (since the link doesn't work for some reason, search Lord-Winterman (the dash is important) or find the link on Facebook. Most of the extra bits, fluff, and news updates go up on there (really important if I go offline for extended periods), along with other forms of art that I'm working with. Furthermore, if I post anything that is not firmly rooted in the realm of fan-fiction, and can more or less be called original, it will be there, too. Constructive criticism is always appreciated. Before reading anything I write, there are a few points of business I would like to clear out of the way: I do not own the source material of any story I may work on, which happens to include, but not restricted to: The Hunger Games, Avatar: the Last Airbender and Legend of Korra, Dragon Age, Naruto, Bleach, Harry Potter, RWBY. Unless the owners (or their representative(s)) of the materials I use as sand and sandboxes directly contacts me with an offer involving their respective property, I am not receiving any monetary benefits or compensation for writing these stories, and the only non-monetary compensation I receive is the honing of my skills, personal satisfaction, and otherwise clearing my head of ideas that refuse to leave me alone. Additionally, I am not taking credit for anything other than playing with said sandbox plus whatever OCs and concepts I may invent along the way. Everything you see here is largely the result of one man running on caffeine, sugar, sleep-deprivation, and an overabundance of ideas swarming through his head. From conception to finished product, I manage it all in between the myriad of other factors of life that may interfere at times. In such a state, errors of all kinds may occur, delays and periods of silence can go on for weeks, or even months, at a time. However, barring the appearance of lawyers explicitly telling me to stop, I will not wholly abandon or discontinue a story. In the highly unlikely (as in requiring scientific notation) event I must absolutely prematurely end a story, if able, I will tie it up the best I can and post a cleaned up version of my notes and whatever bits I have already written with clear indication for those whom may stumble upon it in the future. Furthermore, while constructive criticism is always appreciated, there are some things to keep in mind whenever it comes to writer-readership interaction. PMs and Reviews: If you desire clarification on any point, send a private message or a review THAT I CAN DIRECTLY ANSWER. I generally will not answer questions in authorial notes and commentary unless there is a sufficient volume of inquiries, or someone brings up a point or error that muddles or derails the narrative for everyone involved (like a gratuitous editing error). Simply flaming without any coherent or logical thought and argument will more than likely be ignored. Shipping: In the event that such an element is involved in a project, any pairings that may occur, whichever they are, will happen independent of input from the readership unless I explicitly ask for it. On the same token, said pairings may be subject to change. When the results come in, please refrain from griping and complaining because I did not deign to select your OTP for a given story. If it concerns a pairing that isn’t planned, complaining only serves to decrease the chance of it ever happening. Story Requests: Unless otherwise noted, I do not take story requests. I have enough ideas bouncing around in my head on a regular basis, and I have enough stories, original and otherwise, that I would very much like to tackle before I handle anyone else's stories. OCs: Original characters have something of a foul reputation among the fan-fic writing community, mostly because they are so regularly overpowered or otherwise mar the narrative for most stories they appear in, earning the label of Mary Sues (or Marty Stu, if male) and/or Creator Pets. However, I am of the mind that all characters were at one point OCs (Lancelot of Arthurian Legend, for example). As such, as long as a character fulfills a specific role, operates in accordance and confinement of said role, and is given no preferential treatment exceeding that of the canon characters, especially that of the main characters, they are perfectly fine. Self-inserts, should any appear, are to be given the same treatment. Method to Madness: as a general rule, I do not typically write by the seat of my pants. I might throw something in along the way, many of the stories I’m already working on, both fan-fic and original, require a fair amount of forethought and research to turn it into something that is both worthwhile and satisfactorily complete, especially to my own standards (the hardest bar to clear). They have an established itinerary from the introduction to the epilogue and enough elements with appropriate scaling to keep things interesting. Therefore, if something seems illogical, bizarre, or looks like I’m setting up a Mary Sue (or Marty Stu) of any sort, there is generally something else in play that will equalize, rationalize, explain, and otherwise justify things. There is an order to the overall structure of every story I write and intend to write, even if I have to completely reorder certain aspects of a story to do so. (Seriously, I have an entire document for myself outlining and detailing what I do and do not in writing. These are the Laws of LAW, and while they may be slightly bent in rarified occasions with sufficient cause and a highly extensive justification, they are never outright broken) Canon: In all things involving the writing of fan-fiction, remember this one thing: “nothing is true, and everything is permitted.” Canon means next to nothing outside of the framework I start with, and I will readily and happily reshape it or throw pieces of it out the window if it means writing a better/more interesting story. Signed, Lord August Winterman, Purveyor of Insanity Stories Thus Far... The Hunger Games: Embers (yes, there are probably a million HG fan-fics with this name): Embers is story about the first Victor of District 12, both his life before the Hunger Games, and his time in the Arena (this is also my first full-length work). Canon-compliant work. To Soryn Lockwood, survival is not a game; it is a lifestyle. Against conditions set by the Capitol, the wills of the other tributes, and the odds and obstacles that seek to bring them down, who will be the last one standing? Status: Complete with sequel in planning. Dragon Age: The Apocalyptian Saga: Dragon Age: The Apocalyptian Saga is a fan-fic diverging after the end of DAII detailing a different path from the Inquisition continuity. Thedas crumbles from a multitude of conflicts as ancient threats awaken from slumber. From every corner of every realm, legends will convene for the battles that will determine the fate of all. Status: Ongoing. Currently on third installment of seven. Avatar: Finding Yourself: A Fan-fic where Zuko becomes the Avatar. In the absence of the last airbender, to bring balance to the world, the cycle of the Avatar continues. Status: Complete with a sequel in development. Naruto: RE: A Naruto AU where Obito arrives in time to save Rin. A simple action causes destiny and fate to be rewritten. Status: Ongoing. Saga of Tai: A Post-LoK fic about Korra’s successor. The world has changed. Peace is a fragile thing, and not even the Avatar is immune to the passage of time. A new generation inherits a new set of problems, and the reincarnated hero everyone looks for is nowhere to be found. Status: On Hold, expansion pending. Infinity Thread Works: The grand collection of all "what-if" scenarios that come through my mind through the natural writing process. If there's a story that strikes my fancy, but cannot be integrated to another project and lacks substance to expand into a full-length project. As such, they will be somewhat broken up, but I'll post it anyway just to get it out of my head. So, unless noted otherwise, these will be separate from any potential parent projects, designated by the appropriate initialing, ITW. Status: In development/pre-production/production/post-production/awaiting submission. Current Stories within the Infinity Thread Works: Coming Soon... End of Normalcy: A Harry Potter fan-fic where Petunia Evans is a witch instead of a muggle. Petunia Evans only wanted to be a part of the magical world. In another universe, her wish was already a reality. Status: In production. Awaiting for penultimate installment of DA:AS. Shadows of Time: A continuation of Embers, ultimately tying to the original books and into post-canon. Through bitter struggle, Soryn Lockwood survived the Hunger Games, but his war has yet to end, and his conflict will ultimately spill over onto other generations. Status: In production. To Dance with Death: An Avatar:TLA/Bleach crossover, sequel to Avatar: Finding Yourself. The 100-Year War is over, and the trials of its conclusion are at an end. But more challenges lie in wait for the Avatar and his allies, and whole new world of possibilities and problems lie in the realms beyond their own, and the answer to questions long unsolved. Status: In production. Ad Lux Aeterna: A RWBY fic about the lives of Team STRQ. More details on this at a later date. Status: In production. Fate/Reckoning: An AU of covering several time periods of the Fate/Stay Night 'verse, and the numerous spin-offs. Status: In development. |
