Author has written 1 story for Hana Yori Dango/花より男子. Some people are so poor, all they have is money." - Patrick Meagher "When we take seriously that all of us are mortal, we may love not less but more, with greater rather than smaller consideration and attentiveness. We try to put the very best of ourselves into the lives of those we love. This is one of the spurs of mortality. Knowing that death will one day part us all provides a powerful motive to treat each other's interests, concerns, well-being, and happiness with devotion. Such devotion does not reflect a morbid preoccupation with death, but the courage to love with depth of heart despite death's heartbreak. Those who cannot or do not love fully and well may seem to risk less to death, but in fact lose more. For their days are emptier, and they are left in the end unable to say, 'I tried to give the best of myself to you.'" (from "Character & Cops" by Edwin J. Delattre) A teenage girl about 17 named Diane had gone to visit some friends one evening and time passed quickly as each shared their various experiences of the past year. She ended up staying longer than planned, and had to walk home alone. She wasn't afraid because it was a small town and she lived only a few blocks away. As she walked along under the tall elm trees, Diane asked God to keep her safe from harm and danger. When she reached the alley, which was a short cut to her house, she decided to take it. However, halfway down the alley she noticed a man standing at the end as though he were waiting for her. She became uneasy and began to pray, asking for God's protection. Instantly a comforting feeling of quietness and security wrapped round her, she felt as though someone was walking with her. When she reached the end of the alley, she walked right past the man and arrived home safely. The following day, she read in the newspaper that a young girl had been raped in the same alley just twenty minutes after she had been there. Feeling overwhelmed by this tragedy and the fact that it could have been her, she began to weep. Thanking God for her safety and to help this young woman, she decided to go to the police station. She felt she could recognize the man, so she told them her story. The police asked her if she would be willing to look at a lineup to see if she could identify him. She agreed and immediately pointed out the man she had seen in the alley the night before. When the man was told he had been identified, he immediately broke down and confessed. The officer thanked Diane for her bravery and asked if there was anything they could do for her. She asked if they would ask the man one question. Diane was curious as to why he had not attacked her. When the policeman asked him, he answered, "Because she wasn't alone. She had two tall men walking on either side of her." Amazingly, whether you believe or not, you're never alone. I am the girl kicked out of her home because I confided in my mother that I am a lesbian. I am the prostitute working the streets because nobody will hire a transsexual woman. I am the sister who holds her gay brother tight through the painful, tear-filled nights. We are the parents who buried our daughter long before her time. I am the man who died alone in the hospital because they would not let my partner of twenty-seven years into the room. I am the foster child who wakes up with nightmares of being taken away from the two fathers who are the only loving family I have ever had. I wish they could adopt me. I am one of the lucky ones, I guess. I survived the attack that left me in a coma for three weeks, and in another year I will probably be able to walk again. I am not one of the lucky ones. I killed myself just weeks before graduating high school. It was simply too much to bear. We are the couple who had the realtor hang up on us when she found out we wanted to rent a one-bedroom for two men. I am the person who never knows which bathroom I should use if I want to avoid getting the management called on me. I am the mother who is not allowed to even visit the children I bore, nursed, and raised. The court says I am an unfit mother because I now live with another woman. I am the domestic-violence survivor who found the support system grow suddenly cold and distant when they found out my abusive partner is also a woman. I am the domestic-violence survivor who has no support system to turn to because I am male. I am the father who has never hugged his son because I grew up afraid to show affection to other men. I am the home-economics teacher who always wanted to teach gym until someone told me that only lesbians do that. I am the man who died when the paramedics stopped treating me as soon as they realized I was transsexual. I am the person who feels guilty because I think I could be a much better person if I did not have to always deal with society hating me. I am the man who stopped attending church, not because I don't believe, but because they closed their doors to my kind. I am the person who has to hide what this world needs most, love. I am the person who is afraid of telling his loving Christian parents he loves another male. I'm the one who can't accept myself. I am the person who is ashamed to tell my own friends I am a lesbian, because they constantly make fun of them. I am the boy tied to a fence, beaten to a bloody pulp, and left to die because two straight men wanted to 'teach me a lesson'. I hate to turn up out of the blue, uninvited. Nothing compares, no worries or cares Hope for the best, plan for the worst. One is only candid when inebriated. Death is not the greatest loss in life. The greatest loss is what dies inside us while we live.-Norman Cousins. Living in the present is all you can ever really do to avoid being sucked into depression. It's something that makes us all humane, which has been rare, to say the least. Life does have its purpose; even if you don't exactly know what it is, but, how would you find out if you're stuck living and re-living your memories, over and over? Abuse For every child who cries at night, alone with shame and pain and fright. For every child who wants so much, to only feel a gentle touch. For the beaten child, who cries in pain, whose tears run silent, like the rain. For the child used to satisfy lust, who never learns to love or trust. For the child taken from her home, and made to feel so all alone. For the child whose home is just a shell, where life becomes a living hell. For the child who smiles but cannot feel, because of scars too deep to heal. For every child who yearns for love, I hope and pray to God above. To hear your cries and heal your pain, and give you back your life again….by Kathy Williams Flying is simple. You just throw yourself at the ground and miss. Always forgive your enemies - nothing annoys them nearly as much. Everyone makes mistakes. The trick is to make mistakes when nobody is looking. There cannot be a crisis this week; my schedule is full. It takes 42 muscles to frown, 28 to smile and only 4 to reach out and slap someone. They say "guns don't kill people, people kill people." Well, I think the guns help. If you stood there and yelled "BANG", I don't think you'd kill too many people. The two most common elements in the world are hydrogen and stupidity. Why do we teach kids that violence is not the answer and then have them read about wars in school that solved their countries' problems? Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you criticize them, you are a mile away from them, and you have their shoes. Calling someone fat doesn't make you skinnier, and calling someone ugly doesn't make you prettier. Nobody is worth your tears. And the one that is won't make you cry. The punishment for such actions is at least 6 months of banishment from the use of the holy log. OBITUARY FOR THE LATE MR. COMMON SENSE Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was, since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape. He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as: Knowing when to come in out of the rain; why the early bird gets the worm; Life isn't always fair; and Maybe it was my fault. Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend more than you can earn) and reliable strategies (adults, not children, are in charge). His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well-intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place. Reports of a 6 year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition. Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job that they themselves had failed to do in disciplining their unruly children. It declined even further when schools were required to get Parental consent to administer Calpol, sun lotion or a band-aid to a student; but could not inform parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion. Common Sense lost the will to live as the Ten Commandments became contraband; churches became businesses; and criminals received better treatment than their victims. Common Sense took a beating when you couldn't defend yourself from a burglar in your own home and the burglar could sue you for assault. Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap, and was promptly awarded a huge settlement. Common Sense was preceded in death by his parents, Truth and Trust; his wife, Discretion; his daughter, Responsibility; and his son, Reason. He is survived by his 3 stepbrothers; I Know My Rights, Someone Else Is To Blame, and I'm A Victim. Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone. If you still remember him, pass this on. If not, join the majority and do nothing. RIP We shall remember When you were 5, your mom gave you an ice-cream cone.
