That one line from Naomi to Addison in the fourth season of Private Practice grew into this alternate, admittedly rather warm and fuzzy, Addek universe, in which they started a family in residency, never separated, and all is sweet and ordinary until their children start asking some questions. A health issue for Derek's mother sends Derek, Meredith, and Zola back east for the first time into the heart of the extended Shepherd family. When his mother requests an unexpected surgeon, Derek will also need to open the door to his past and try to fit all the pieces together. Set during Season 9 with some pre-show AU parts. Very MerDer. Mark, Addison, and Derek are the last ones left at the party, which gives them the perfect opportunity to work out their differences. Tongue-in-cheek (so to speak).

Seven years after Derek left New York, he's remarried, lives across the country, and hasn't spoken to Mark and Addison since their affair. He's also the only hope for their sick daughter.
