A/N: Writing is dedicated to the brilliant poet, mrspencil. Looking for inspiration, I asked some of her readers for three words that describe her or her writings. The response was rather overwhelming. In no particular order: thoughtful, witty, amazing, talented, caring, noble, intriguing, cheeky, encouraging, helpful, stirring, self-effacing, generous, smart, funny, kind, skilled, tough, resilient, hard working, professional, big-hearted, Holmesian, delightful, interesting. I have tried to incorporate most of them in the following poem. Based on a well-known Dr. Seuss poem. Thank you to medcat for looking the piece over.

Disclaimer: Own nothing, nor do I benefit from anything related to Dr Seuss or ACD.

Oh, the Adventures You'll Write!

Congratulations!

Today is your day.

You're sure to write paces!

And Delight with array!

~221b~

You have brains in your head.

You have Smart cheeky muse

You can write Skilful prose

Anyhow that you choose.

You're not alone. Yes, you're Kind that I know.

And you are the pen of Professional flow.

~221b~

You'll have up and down days. Life is never that fair.

About sometimes you'll say, "I wish to be elsewhere."

With your head full of brains and your muse in your gaze,

You're too Tough to be downed by some non-rhyming maze.

~221b~

And you may not find many

Witty words to suit you.

In that case, of course,

Your Fan friends will come through.

~221b~

It's freer there

In Holmesian air.

Out where clues can inspire

And frequently do

To people as Funny

And Thoughtful as you.

~221b~

When words itch to be written,

Don't worry. Don't stew.

Just hum right along.

Resilience becomes you.

~221b~

Oh!

The Stories You'll Write!

~221b~

You'll continue your poem!

You'll continue your art!

You'll join the good artists

Who paint with good heart!

~221b~

You may fall behind; sometimes you'll be in need.

You'll hang in the game and you'll recover the lead.

Wherever you go, you'll have my wisdom to back.

Wherever you go, you'll be part of my pack.

~221b~

Perhaps you will write

Perhaps, sometimes, you'll fight.

~221b~

I know you're Amazing

And, really, it's true,

And Noble

And Generous too.

~221b~

In spite of your self doubt

'bout Intriguing case lit,

You are clearly above

With your Stirring Strand Wit.

~221b~

You may find a word block

It's an unpleasant hump.

And the chances are, then,

That you'll be in a slump.

~221b~

And when you're in a slump,

(It not being much fun).

Un-slumping yourself

Is not easily done.

~221b~

You will come to a page where the words are not clear.

Some rhymes are blighted. And rather, they're drear.

A page you have written again and again -

Do you dare to write on? Do you dare to write then?

~221b~

And IF you write on, should you pen this or that…

Or write it in rhyme? Or, maybe , just chat?

Or erase all of it that you've put into rhyme?

Simple it's not, I'm afraid you will find,

For a Caring Boswell to make up his mind.

~221b~

You can get so confused

That you'll start to compose

With star studded words and a pink showy rose,

And pen on for hours about emotional glows,

Headed, I fear, toward a most baffling close.

Romantic Prose…

~221b~

…for people just pining.

Pining for a love to come

Or a wife to go, or a girl to come

Or the man to go, and the friend to come

Or the wedding ring, or the sugar plum

Or snivelling around for a romantic crumb

Or crying o'er their suitor glum

Everyone is just pining.

~221b~

Or pining for proposals lost

Or pining over paths not crossed

Or pining, perhaps, for sentiment cruel

Or a boy to kiss - such a drivelling fool -

Or a string of pearls, or a diamond brooch

Or a head with curls, or a lost coach.

Everyone is just pining.

~221b~

No!

That's not for you!

I know you'll escape

All that romance and crying.

You'll draft the real cases

With danger and spying.

~221b~

With Helpful fact finding,

And me at your side,

You'll be writing my cases in stride.

You'll be writing with me as your guide.

~221b~

Oh, the dangers you'll face! And a gun to be spun!

There are crooks to be caught. There are games to be won.

And the magazine stories will ring out the truth

and will scare the burgeoning burgling youth.

Write! You'll write circles 'round drivelling pens,

With the whole Yard awed reading your ink-scripted lens.

~221b~

Sometimes you will write

And yes, sometimes, you'll fight.

~221b~

I'm aware that some times

You'll be lonely at night.

Poems you can't write

'cause the line's just not right.

~221b~

At Night!

Whether you like it or not,

The night will be something

You'll see quite a lot.

~221b~

And then in the night, there's a probable chance

You'll hear violin strings to inspire pen's dance

To lure rhythms from hiding 'tween hither and yon,

Words with Interest to match that fighting Don Juan.

~221b~

But on you will write

Though conditions be foul

On you will write

Though inner enemy prowl

On you will write

Though the Baskerville howl

Onward and upward

Though you be drained,

Though your hands may get sore

And your fingers ink-stained.

~221b~

On and on you will write

I know you'll Work hard,

And finish your case stories

Whatever they are.

~221b~

You'll get mixed up, of course,

As you already know.

You'll get mixed up

With many strange clues as you go.

So be sure when you write –

Write, Encourage, and act

And remember that Life's

A great balancing act.

Just never forget to be dexterous and deft.

And never mix up your right hand with your left.

~221b~

And will you succeed?

Yes! You will, indeed!

(Odds are ninety to one, guaranteed.)

~221b~

Yes, You'll make a difference!

~221b~

So…

Be your name Phillip or Pixy or Pip

Or shadowy, Self-effacing, yellowish skip,

You're off to write pieces!

The limit's the sky!

Your cheeky muse scheming.

So, go, don't be Shy!
