Harry grinned as he sat down in the Great Hall next to Haley, who was busy piling her plate high with toast.
"Hungry?" He asked quietly, raising his eyebrow and looking over at the fiery-haired witch with a smirk.
Haley blushed as she glanced over at him, and gently nudged him with her shoulder, "I've decided that if I'm dedicating my life to getting into shit with you, then I'm going to enjoy every aspect of my life, no matter how small. Especially toasted bread." She said with a soft giggle as she munched on the crunchy bread.
"Interesting view on life, love." Harry said softly as he grabbed his own plate and started piling it with various breakfast foods, including, of course, toast.
As the two ate their breakfast together, Ron slowly walked up behind the two, looking ashen and forlorn as he sighed, and sat down next to Harry, his eyes glancing at the beautiful girl sitting beside Harry enviously. "H… Harry… Cou-could I talk to you for a moment?" He asked quietly, his eyes looking at his once-best friend.
Harry's eyebrows raised as he looked at Ron for a few moments, "Why?" He asked quietly, before turning away from him, and looking at the plate of food while Haley didn't mind glaring at the redhead for a few moments.
Ron felt rather uncomfortable as Haley stared at him, like he was about to spontaneously combust, and sighed softly, "I n… I need to talk to you alone." He said, chewing on his bottom lip for a few moments.
"Again Ron, why, you know I'm going to just tell her what you said right after, so what's the point in having privacy from her?" Harry asked, taking a long sip of his pumpkin juice, before turning to Ron once again.
"Fine. I just… I just wanna say that I'm sorry. I was the biggest arse in the world to you, and I… I want to at least try to salvage something out of our friendship." Ron said, his eyes looking at Harry pleadingly, hoping that he would accept the apology.
Harry smiled gently, which caused Ron to get nervous, "Ron… I… I don't even have words for you." He said softly, his goblet in his hand as he watched Ron's expression get sadder as Harry spoke. "You did some really unforgivable things, and I dunno if I want you in my life really. I don't really need you anymore, actually. I have so many better friends that I know will have my back, no matter what." Harry finished, and downed the rest of the goblet, "Haley, I'm gonna go to the library. Welcome to join, if you want." He said simply, before getting up, and leaving, followed by Haley.
"You're dumb." Ginny said from across the table, followed by a chorus of laughter by her friends, and a deep blushing of Ron. She had watched the whole exchange from a far, and had seen how miserably Ron had tried to get Harry back.
"You're trying like a lovesick girlfriend tries to get her boyfriend back after she cheated on him! 'Oh Harry, I know I fucked up. I know I'm a horrible person! But please, please, please let me suck your dick!'" She said with a laugh, and took a long drink of juice. Ginny stood up, and walked over to her older brother, "You want him back? Or the fame?" She asked quietly, raising her eyebrows knowingly as she winked and walked back to her seat, and Ron quickly maneuvered his way from the Great Hall.
.X.
"You okay babe?" Haley asked Harry softly as her arms slid around his chest from behind and she rested her chin on his shoulder. She knew Harry had a few problems with making friends, and knowing when it was good to cut them off before they turned lecherous.
"I'm… I'm fine." He said quietly, shrugging as he glanced at the girl behind him, "It just was hard because he was like… my first friend." He said with a soft sigh as he stared down at the book in front of him. "But I have you. And Hermione. And Fleur." Harry said with a grin as he leaned up and kissed his girlfriend for a few seconds before pulling away and going back to the book.
Haley smiled as she walked around the table, and sat down across from him, and let out a soft yawn. "Do we have to stay here? I wouldn't mind taking a nap with you somewhere." She said, stretching out her arms and letting out a wide yawn again.
This caused Harry to laugh, followed by contagious yawn, "I… I dunno. We could spend time researching these tattoos?" He asked quietly, and raised his eyebrows, which caused Haley to laugh, "I think that's a great way to start our nap." She said, and got up, and started looking for a book.
Hours had passed as the couple looked for reasons behind their tattoos, and they had ended up doing nothing more than falling asleep against each other in a back table, towards the Restricted Section, surrounded by a pile of books that made mountains envious. As the couple slept, a silver and brown-haired couple approached the sleeping beauties and giggled softly at them.
"Should vee vake them?" Fleur asked softly, raising her eyebrows as she looked over at Hermione who nodded, "Definitely."
Fleur slowly approached the sleeping duo, and gently tapped them on the shoulders, "Arry! Aley! Wake up, ma amis!" She said softly, and smiled as the two slowly started waking up.
"Wh… Where are we?" Haley asked suddenly as she shot up, causing Harry to fall and hit his head against the table, causing an audible thud and a cry of, "Motherfuck…."
"Harry!" Hermione cried out at his language, causing Haley to tiredly laugh as she rubbed her eyes to get rid of the sleep that remained, "That's probably a result of my foul mouth, Hermione. I wouldn't blame him too much."
Harry slowly picked his head up and looked around the room, "H… How can we help you?" Harry asked as he rubbed his temple where he hit his head. "We wanted to know if you guys wanted to help us maybe try and solve this damned egg thing."
Haley glanced at Harry for a few moments, "Really? Isn't the point of this competition to try and win for ourselves. Ya know… Make it all real and such?" Haley asked Fleur, who shrugged and let out a soft smile.
"After zee events of zee first task, I vant to vork with tu, et tu." She said simply, shrugging as she stared at the duo.
"Harry, I'm gonna leave this up to you. You're the main competitor here. You punched a pretty damn good sized hole in that dragon." Haley said, grinning as Harry picked his head up from the table again, and looked around the room, "Why must I make all the bloody decisions?" He asked, resting his head in his arms as he shrugged, "I don't give a toss. Sure." He said, and looked up at the girls, "As long as you can identify what the fuck these tattoos are." He said, yanking down his shirt to show off the tattoo etched in his skin.
Fleurs eyes widened greatly as she stared at the black marking, "Lien De La Mort." She breathed quietly, taking Hermione's hand tightly in her own, and looking back and forth between Harry and Haley, "Aley, Je assume you have le same marking?" She asked softly, to which Haley nodded. "Merde…." Fleur whispered as she slowly sat down at the table, Hermione following suit.
"Why? What's this Len de Mort thing?" Haley asked, raising her eyebrow as she stared at Harry's tattoo for a few moments. "Bond of Death…" Hermione said quietly, looking at Fleur, who nodded confirmation, and she sighed softly. "It's… it's a soul bond of sorts." She said softly, biting on her lip as she stared at the two, "It's not like a typical one, where the two of you hear each other's thoughts and feel each other's feelings. They're entirely your own. But this bond is something of a rarity."
Harry sighed and hit his head against the table for a few moments, "Why. Do. I. Always. Have. To. Be. The. One?" He said with each tap against the table, causing Haley to slightly stare down at the ground for a few moments, her eyes conveying hurt.
"It's not a bad thing!" Hermione quickly said to Haley, interpreting her reaction as taking offense to the bond itself. "It's one of the most magical and brilliant things to happen. If one of you is in trouble, the other suddenly gets… this strange power boost in which they basically can destroy anything they need to in order to protect their mate. The problem with this bond is simple. If one of you dies… Then both of you die." Hermione said quietly, and Harry's head picked up, his eyes widening as he stared back at the Hermione and Haley.
"Wh… What?" He asked quietly, fear in his voice and his eyes as he stared intently at Fleur, hoping she would give some sort of input or correct Hermione. "Ermione is correct. If Aley dies, then Arry dies, et vice versa." She said softly, looking over at Hermione.
"Harry! Wait!" Haley cried as Harry suddenly bolted from the room as fast as he could, and was in a full dead sprint as he ran from the library, his mind and feelings racing. "W… How do you know so much about this shit?" Haley asked, her voice equally as scared as Harry's sounded, but for different reasons.
"I taught 'Ermione a bit of what I know. 'Arry obviously did something during zee first task." She said softly, and Haley nodded quickly.
"I'm sorry. But if you'll excuse me." She said, before quickly standing up and bolting from the room to find Harry.
.x.
She knew she would find him sitting at the lake, in their favorite spot, but what she didn't expect was to see Harry crying and curled up tightly.
"Harry, baby, what's wrong?" She asked softly, looking at him nervously, trying not to get her own feelings caught in the way of dealing with his. "I… I'm going to kill you." He said simply, his sobs softly echoing through the enclosed space.
"What?" Haley asked softly, her eyes widening as she slowly sat down next to him and wrapped an arm around him tightly, hugging him close to her as he cried, "It's all fucked…." Harry said softly through the sobs, causing Haley to wince softly as every sob hit her ears.
"What are you talking about Harry?" Haley asked softly, gently rubbing his back to comfort him in some way.
"Voldemort!" Harry cried out, sitting up and looking at her, tears streaming down his face as he stared at her, fear in his eyes and voice. "He's… He's gonna fucking kill me!" He sobbed as he stared at the ground, "He's going to fucking kill me, and you're going to die with me." He said quietly and held his head in his hands, "I can't be responsible for your fucking death, Haley." He said softly, and shook his head, "I can't. Even if I'm dead."
"Harry… do you want to be bonded to me?" Haley asked him quietly, raising her eyebrows as she looked at his shaking form, "Because everything so far has told me that you don't wanna be bonded to me." She said with a soft sigh, tears starting to well up in her own eyes. "If you don't, then just fucking tell me." She said quietly, ready to hear the words come from his voice.
Harry's head picked up as he looked at her, "Wha? No! Of course I want you! You're easily one of the best things to happen to me! i… I just can't stand the thought of me killing you." He said softly, "I can't fucking deal with the thought of killing you. Even if it's supposedly not my fault." He said softly, and sighed gently. "I… I just want you to know if you can't handle being bonded to me… I understand."
A loud smack sounded from the beachhead, and Haley broke into tears as she looked at him, "You fucking idiot. Of course I want to be bonded to you! I fucking love you! The short time I've been here, you've nothing but improve the experience. I think about you every minute of the day, and am with you most of that time, as well. I don't care if I might die. It sounds like we don't even have a choice, so shut your fucking mouth!" She said, wiping away her tears as she stared at him, and he nodded silently, and gave her a small smile, "I love you too." He said simply, and leaned in, capturing her lips with his.
