Twilight Comes Twice a Day

Chapter Three: Forks

When Harry opened his eyes he felt a sense of deja-vu, once again he was laying on his back and once again he was cuddling a certain petite Vampire against his chest, this time her eyes were open and looking directly at him with a smile on her lips. She shifted forward and kissed him gently.

"You've been asleep for almost twenty hours, I was getting worried," Alice said as she laid back on his shoulder.

"Well, since I met you, I haven't gotten much sleep," Harry reasoned with a smirk.

"You do realize my family can hear everything you say right?" Alice asked, returning his smirk and laughed when his eyes widened.

"Bloody vampire hearing… I need to learn how to set up privacy wards."

"I'm sure they'll appreciate that, come on, Esme's going to make you breakfast," Alice planted another kiss against his cheek and jumped up out of bed gracefully, she disappeared into her closet, the doors were closed for a few seconds before they opened revealing Alice fully dressed for the day, in her arms were a bundle of clothes for Harry.

"Here, these will look great on you, the shower's through there," Alice pointed at the door on the other side of the bed. "Breakfast will be ready in…" Alice drifted off for a moment, Harry was quickly becoming familiar with this look on her face, she was having a vision. "… Twelve minutes twenty-four seconds. I have to hunt, I'll be back as quickly as possible."

"Don't rush yourself just to get back to me quickly, make sure you feed enough," Harry said worriedly.

"I will," with one last peck on the lips Alice turned around and rushed out the glass door to the balcony, it took less than a second for her to turn into a blur and disappear into the tree line surrounding the Cullen house.

As Harry stepped into the shower the full weight of what he'd gotten himself into started to hit him. A few days ago he had no idea what to do with his life. Now he'd been convinced by his new vampire girlfriend to move to America with her.

"What've I gotten myself into this time," Harry muttered under his breath, hoping any vampires close by wouldn't hear him. However, any doubts that were starting to crawl into his head were quickly swatted away by a single thought. Before he'd met Alice Harry had felt like he was slowly falling into a dark place… now, all he wanted was to be with her.

Harry stepped out of the shower and quickly dried off before reaching for the clothes Alice had set out for him. A simple pair of light blue jeans and a white t-shirt, they were sized perfectly to fit him and were very comfortable, Harry tried not to imagine the price tags that were once attached to the clothes.

Harry didn't encounter anybody in the house besides Esme who he found in the kitchen cooking pancakes.

"Good morning Mrs. Cu… sorry, Esme," Harry corrected.

"Good morning Harry, do you like pancakes?" she asked.

"Umm, I don't know, I've never had American style pancakes," Harry answered honestly. These pancakes were the type that would be stacked and have maple syrup poured over them. However, when Esme handed him a stack and he confused her by using sugar and lemon juice as a topping.

"I've never seen Lemon juice on pancakes," Esme asked curiously as she placed a cup of coffee in front of him and sat across from him.

"Well, English pancakes are made with a thinner batter, that makes them bigger but flatter, that way they can be wrapped around the topping into a roll…"

There are many ways the first conversation between a mother and her daughter's boyfriend can go, Harry was afraid it would have been awkward, however it was anything but, he found himself talking about cooking with Esme for a good half hour, Esme made more than one comment on how Alice had found a man who could cook, only for Harry to remind her that it's not that big an accomplishment since she couldn't eat normal food. Alice returned just as Harry was telling Esme how to use the leftover pancake batter to make 'Toad In The Hole', a British dish.

"Hi Harry, hi Esme," Alice chirped as she plopped herself down into Harry's lap. He quickly noticed that her golden eyes were a much lighter color. "How was your breakfast?"

"Good, Esme's an excellent cook," Harry replied much to Esme's delight. "How was yours?"

There was an uncomfortable silence between the three of them.

"Alice it's alright, it doesn't bother me," Harry reassured her as he wrapped his arms around her waist and planted a kiss on her neck.

"Well, ok… I ate a bear and a mountain lion, Emmett and Edward are going to be so jealous, those are their favorites." Alice answered with a cheeky grin. Harry chuckled, both at her enthusiasm and at the thought of her wrestling with a bear or lion.

"Anyway, I was going to show you the town today, you ready?"

W

For a the next few hours Alice showed Harry around the town of Forks. Alice wanted to drive but Harry thought it best that she didn't. Harry wanted to get used to the town and didn't want to make a bad impression on the local police force on his first day here by speeding. She showed him the way to the school, bank and the best places to shop for food. Around mid-afternoon time they stopped at a Diner when Alice remembered Esme's warning to remember to feed him.

Harry was halfway through his meal when Alice suddenly looked concerned, before Harry could ask her what was wrong the door to the diner opened and in walked two people, one was obviously a police officer judging by his uniform, he looked to be in his forties and had black hair and a moustache. The second man had darker skin and was in a wheelchair, he looked Native American. The man in the wheelchair immediately spotted the two of them and paused, looking a little worried and suspicious.

"What's wrong?" Harry asked watching the looks being exchanged between Alice and the man in the wheelchair.

"Just… a complication," Alice answered awkwardly.

The two men had ordered their food before the officer seemed to notice their presence and approached them.

"You must be Harry," he asked and extended his hand.

Harry took the hand awkwardly. "Yes, I'm sorry but I don't believe we've met."

"Sorry, Charlie Swan, I'm the chief of police here in Forks. This is Billy Black." the wheelchair man nodded stiffly, his eyes not leaving Alice. "You're starting school here on Monday right?" Charlie asked and Harry nodded.

"I hope you don't mind me asking, my daughter Bella is moving to Forks tomorrow and she'll be starting school the same day as you. I was wondering if you could… kinda… hang around with her, maybe your could help each other get settled in," Charlie stumbled over his words, trying not to sound rude.

"Sure, that'd be no problem sir, it'd be nice to know a few people on the first day," Harry said, remembering his first days at Hogwarts and how much worse it could have been if Ron hadn't been there.

"Thanks, well I hope to see you around Harry," with that said Charlie and Billy took their food and made their way to an empty table on the opposite side of the Diner.

"Ok, what was that all about?" Harry asked.

"It's… complicated," Alice whispered. She wondered for a moment what to tell him, then she remembered what he'd said a few days ago. He hates it when people keep information from him because they think it's in their best interest.

"I don't really know much myself since Jasper and I weren't part of the family when it happened… but basically, about seventy years ago when Carlisle, Esme, Rosalie, Emmett and Edward came here last, they ran into the Quileute, they're a tribe that live on the La Push reservation a few miles from here. They knew what the Cullen's were but Carlisle was able to convince them that we don't hunt humans. It took a lot of convincing but the Chief of the Tribe, Ephraim Black, agreed to a truce. We stay off Quileute land and don't bite any humans and in return they don't tell the humans what we really are."

The weekend past by quickly. After being shown around town for the day Harry insisted on booking a room at the local motel, Alice tried to convince him to stay at the Cullen house but Harry didn't want to makes her family uncomfortable, specifically Jasper who had a harder time with the Cullen's diet.

As soon as he had time, Harry would focus on finding a place to live, preferably somewhere out of the way where people wouldn't notice Harry's magic or Alice's true nature. After starting a new life the last thing Harry needed was for the Ministry of Magic come knocking, accusing him of breaching the statute of secrecy.

On Saturday they spent the day together and went to see a movie, Alice insisted on it when she found out he'd never been to the cinema. Finally, Monday morning arrived.

Alice stayed with him in the Motel until the Monday morning when she had to go home to prepare for school.

"You're not going school today?" Harry asked.

"Not in the morning, it's going to be too sunny today. We'll be there for lunch, don't forget, the girl Chief Swan asked you to hang out with will arrive in an old red truck." Alice chirped before planting a light kiss on his lips and leaving the room for Harry to get ready.

"Umm, Harry," Alice said awkwardly as she walked back into the room holding a note that had been attached to the door. "We've been evicted."

"What? Why?" Harry asked as he took the note, he'd paid for a week in advance.

"Noise complaints," Alice replied trying to hide a smirk.

"Oh…," Harry's face turned red. "Well… that's as much your fault as it is mine."

"Oh well… I guess you'll just have to stay at my place tonight," Alice shrugged and rushed out of the room before he could respond.

Five seconds later Harry came to a conclusion, there was no way Alice wouldn't have known this would happen. "Little minx, she planned this."

After getting ready, Harry left the room ten minutes earlier than he planned for the uncomfortable confrontation with the motel manager. He was a middle aged man who gave Harry a disapproving look as he descended to the main office.

"You, I don't appreciate my business being used for your illicit activities! Give me one good reason why I shouldn't call the police!" he sputtered spraying spit on his beard.

"What do you mean? I haven't done anything illegal!" Harry snapped at him with a glare.

"You know damn well what I'm talking about! I saw the hooker leave!"

Harry saw red. He didn't know what happened next, all he knew was one moment the motel manager accused Alice of being a prostitute, the next, Harry had the man's lapel clutched in his fist and body pushed up against the wall, Harry's free hand curled up into a fist and pulled back when somebody caught it in a firm but gentle grip.

"Sweetie, calm down, please," it was Alice. She'd placed her body between his fist and the pinned man, she held his hand back with one hand and ran her other hand down Harry's chest soothingly.

"He… he…" Harry growled through his teeth as he struggled to calm down.

"I know, he's not worth it, please."

Harry took one more shuddering breath and loosened his grip allowing the motel owner to slip to the ground, he looked as if he was about to ay something when Alice glared at him. His survival instincts kicked in and he quickly scampered away into the back office and slammed the doors.

"You saw didn't you?" Harry asked, ashamed of himself as Alice lead him out of the motel and towards his car. "You saw what I was going to do to him… was it bad?"

"Lets put it this way, Chief Sawn would have had second thoughts about having you near his daughter. Now, I'm going to meet my family, I'll see you at school okay?" Alice planted a soft kiss on his lips before dashing away into the nearby trees.

After taking a minute to get his head together Harry threw his belongings into the back of his car and drove away from the motel he'd slept for the past few days.

Less than fifteen minutes later Harry arrived at his new school. He'd seen it over the weekend when it was deserted, now it bustled with life and looked like a completely different place. Dozens of students moving from one place to another, parking cars, struggling with their bags, chatting with friends and looking over books. It had been more than seven years since Harry had attended regular school, it would take some getting used to.

Harry noticed the looks he was getting as he parked his car, people seemed intrigued at the arrival of a new student and his flashy car did a good job of broadcasting his arrival. After grabbing his bag he locked the car and started making his way towards the main building.

Before Harry could reach the building he noticed an old red truck pulling into the parking lot, it was hard to miss as most of the students were chuckling as it pulled into the lot. Out of the truck stepped a pretty brunette girl with brown eyes. Knowing this had to be the girl Harry had been looking for, he approached her as she locked the door to her truck.

"Nice ride," one student said sarcastically to the girl.

Harry 'accidentally' hit this student in the back of the head with his bag as he passed by him, Harry pretended not to notice.

"Excuse me, Bella?" Harry asked getting the attention of the brunette girl.

"Y-Yes?" Bella stuttered, she seemed shocked that somebody had actually spoken to her.

"I don't know if your dad told you about me, I'm Harry," Harry said only for Bella to turn red in the cheeks.

"Yeah, Charlie told me… sorry about that," Bella apologized.

"It's really no problem, I'm starting today too, it'll be nice to know somebody before starting," Harry said with a smile and extended his hand to her which she took with a smile of her own.

Together the new friends made their way towards the main office, when inside they talked to the receptionist about being new students, minutes later they each had a class schedule and a map of the school.

"Hey… Hey!" somebody shouted. Harry and Bella turned to see an Asian teenager running up to them. "Isabella right? And Harry? I'm Eric Yorke, the eyes and ears of this place…"

Bella and Harry made their way to their first class being trailed after by Eric who wanted to put them in his newspaper but was shot down politely by Bella and not so politely by Harry.

Maybe it was latent anger from his confrontation with the motel owner or maybe it was his past experiences with newspapers, but when Eric asked for the third time for an interview, Harry snapped.

"Let me make myself very clear, if tomorrow there is anything about me in your newspaper, then the day after tomorrow the headline will be 'Editor Sodomized With Own Newspaper'… okay?" Harry asked

"Okay," Eric squeaked.

Morning classes passed by in a blur and Harry found himself becoming restless. Since meeting her he hadn't gone this long without seeing Alice. He didn't like not being with her.

The only part of morning classes Harry really enjoyed was Gym class where he played volleyball. It involved two things Harry was good at, running and catching. Harry was picked last for his team, probably because of his small physique, however, both teams soon regretted it when Harry started earning points.

Bella on the other hand wasn't having such a good time, whenever she moved around too much she'd lose her balance and fall, whenever she hit the ball it either went in the wrong direction or hit one of her own teammates in the head. This is how she met Mike Newman, a jock who immediately started trying to flirt with the uncomfortable girl.

Soon enough the time Harry was waiting for came around, lunch. Harry and Bella got their dinner and sat together. They were quickly joined by Eric, Mike and two girls. One girl wore glasses and had an expensive looking camera hanging from her neck, she introduced herself as Angela. The other girl had long brown hair and spoke like a stereotypical American schoolgirl, every other sentence she spoke started with the word 'Like'. This was Jessica.

"So Harry, are you like, single?" Jessica asked with a smile.

"No, I have a girlfriend," Harry was very to the point.

"Who're they?" Bella asked looking out the window.

Harry looked up and he smiled when he saw the Cullens walking past the window towards the door. Alice looked through the window and smiled when she saw Harry.

"The Cullens," Angela answered.

"They're Doctor and Mrs Cullens foster kids, they moved down here from Alaska like, a few years ago," Jessica explained

"They kinda keep to themselves," Angela said.

One by one the Cullens entered the cafeteria.

"The blond girl, that's Rosalie and the big dark haired guy is Emmett, they're like, together," Jessica said in a scandalized tone. "I'm not even sure that's legal."

"Jess, they're not actually related," Angela explained.

"Yeah but… they live together, it's… weird," Jessica said awkwardly.

"The little dark-haired girl is Alice, she's really weird," she said making Harry frown. "And the blond guy who looks like he's in pain, that's Jasper."

The Cullens walked past his table to get their food, Rosalie ignored him, Emmet and Jasper both gave him a nod and Alice gave him a bright smile and a wink that made Harry wonder what she was up to. They all got their food and sat at a table on the other side of the room.

"And him?" Bella asked as the last Cullen entered the cafeteria and joined his siblings.

"Edward Cullen, totally gorgeous of course, but no girl here is good enough for him,"

'I wonder how many times he's turned down her advances,' Harry wondered.

"Maybe he's just waiting for the right girl," Harry suggested.

"He doesn't even look twice at any girl here," Jess argued with a pout.

"Oh," Harry suddenly had an idea to mess with Edward. "Then maybe he's waiting for the right guy."

-CRACK-

Harry looked towards the Cullen table where Edward had pushed down with his fork a little too hard and broken his plate. He was looking at Harry with wide eyes. Jasper and Alice had small smiles on their faces, even Rose's mouth was twitching at the corners. Emmett however had a little trouble hiding his humor, he was bent over laughing loudly with his eyes clenched shut.

"That would, like, explain a lot," Jessica said thoughtfully, this just made Emmett laugh harder. "Maybe Jasper too, he's not shown any interest in girls either," just like that Jasper's smile was gone and Emmett's laughter got so bad he almost fell off his chair.

"Maybe Jasper and Edward are together and they just don't want people to know," Angela whispered back to Jessica. "Have you ever noticed? They always sit next to each other at lunch."

It was too much for Emmett to handle, his laughter became so strong that he tumbled off his chair and hit the ground with a thud. Edward and Jasper looked very uncomfortable and shifted their chairs away from each other. Alice was hunched over laughing lightly while Rose tried and failed to keep a straight face. Most of the cafeteria were watching the Cullens in bewilderment.

"Alice hasn't had any interest in any guys either," Mike mumbled. Harry's eye twitched when he imagined Mike asking Alice out.

"Well you just said that they keep to themselves, for all you know they are seeing someone, you just don't know about it," Harry said.

"I'd know if she was seeing someone," Mike said cockily.

"I doubt it," Harry muttered, loud enough for them to hear.

"Oh yeah? I bet you twenty bucks she's not seeing anybody," Mike said with a superior smirk.

Harry subtly looked at Alice and grinned when he saw her smile and nod at him.

"Ok, you're on," Harry agreed to the bet.

As soon as they finished shaking on it, Alice stood up from her table and sauntered over towards them. Shocking Eric, Angela, Jessica and Mike.

"Hi Harry," Alice chirped as she sat down in his lap and kissed him on the lips. Further stunning the others at the table. After almost ten seconds they separated for breath. "You still coming over tonight?"

"Like I have much choice," Harry answered.

"Great, can you give me a ride after school?" Alice asked which Harry answered with a nod.

"Okay, I'll see you after school Harry, love you," Alice kissed him again before standing up and making her way back to her table.

Harry went back to his food, not addressing the stunned stares coming from the others. He did however hold his hand out to Mike.

"Damn," he cursed and slapped a twenty into Harry's hand, "Totally played me."

"I told you I had a girlfriend," Harry shrugged.

"S-So you're dating Alice Cullen?" Jessica asked. "How did that happen?"

"Well, she went on a shopping trip in England and met me, a few days later here I am," Harry explained not so clearly. He only succeeded in further confusing them,

"Damn… I have to visit England some time," Jessica mumbled, Angela just nodded in agreement.

Throughout the encounter with Alice, Bella had been rather quiet, Harry looked to her and saw that she had her eyes locked on Edward. He in turn was staring back at her with a look of frustration.

Harry continued his meal trying to ignore the talking going on around him. A couple of times he noticed Bella glancing at Edward out of the corner of her eye. Edward still looked frustrated at something and Harry doubted it was Angela and Jessica's whispered conspiracy theories on homosexuality.

After lunch it was time for biology. Harry and Bella had a little trouble finding the class and were five minutes late.

"Ah, you must be my new students," said the teacher with a small smile. "Please take a seat."

Harry noticed their were only two seats left, one next to Edward and one next to Alice. He quirked an eyebrow at this, if the only seats available were those two, why didn't the siblings sit together?

Harry was broken from his thoughts when he saw something that almost made him panic. Edward's eyes had turned black and he was looking directly at Bella who had just stepped in front of a power fan which in turn had just blasted her scent into the vampire's face.

'Oh crap,' Were the only words that came to mind.

Before he could stop her, Bella took the seat next to Edward who was holding his breath and trying to subtly clamp a hand over his mouth and nose.

Harry took the seat next to Alice but kept a close eye on the desk next to theirs. Harry patted his pockets futiley trying to find his wand, he mentally cursed when he remembered where it was. In the trunk of his car with the rest of his belongings, exactly where he'd thrown them after the incident with the motel owner.

Harry concluded there was only one thing he could do id Edward lost control. Grab him and apparate away. As soon as that thought crossed his mind he felt a cold hand on his leg.

"Don't worry," Alice whispered. "He won't hurt her," she'd obviously had a vision.

Her words calmed Harry down a little but he stayed on guard. Like Alice said, her visions weren't set in stone.

Bella wasn't ignorant of Edward's reaction to her, she had noticed him glaring at her and holding his nose. Harry felt sorry for her when he noticed her subtly smell her hair to see if there was something wrong with the way she smelt.

After what seemed like forever, the bell finally rang and immediately, Edward grabbed his bag and rushed from the room at a speed barely passable as human.

The bell not only signaled the end of class, but the end of the school day too, so Harry followed Alice out to the parking lot. As they reached his car Harry grasped Alice's shounder and turned her around to face him placing her back against the car.

"Ok, what's going on?" Harry asked sternly.

"Ooh," Alice teased. "I like it when you're assertive," she said in a mischievous tone while biting her bottom lip.

"Alice!" Harry repeated in a tone that let her know he wasn't playing around.

Before answering him Alice took a quick look around for her family, Edward's Volvo was gone and so was Emmett's jeep. She leaned in close to Harry and whispered.

"When you agreed to hang out with Bella I had a vision. Bella is going to be Edward's mate!" she said excitedly bouncing on her feet.

"A-Are you sure?" Harry asked skeptically. "He couldn't even breath around her."

"Trust me Harry, Bella is going to be a big part of our lives, you'll see."

W

When Harry and Alice arrived at the Cullen house Edward was already leaving. He quickly explained that Bella's scent was overwhelming to him, it took all of his self control to resist killing her.

"That's not all… she's like you," Edward said looking at Harry. "I can't read her."

"Damn, that's two in less than a week, you must be losing your touch," Emmett teased.

"Could she be a witch?" Carlisle asked

"Doubtful," Harry answered "If she was magical I'd have been able to tell… plus she'd have known what you are and ran like hell… I supposed she could have been born with natural occlumency shields."

"You can have them naturally?" Jasper asked, it was the first time he'd spoken around Harry, he noticed the blonde vampire had a slight southern accent.

"Yeah, anybody can learn occlumency but some people and creatures are born with natural shields."

"Creatures?" Esme asked as she leant forwards, she was obviously fascinated by magic.

"Yeah, Veela, Werewolves, Centaurs, Unicorns and a bunch of other creatures are born with shields."

"Unicorns?" Rosalie asked disbelievingly. "You expect us to believe Unicorns are real?"

"Yes," Harry answered simply. "Most creatures you've ever heard of in stories, Dragons, Trolls, Giants, they're all real."

"Back to the point," Edward interrupted. "I cant be around that girl until I can control myself."

"You're leaving?" Esme asked sadly.

"Just for a while Esme. I'll go to Alaska to visit our cousins."

Esme walked across the room and pulled Edward into a hug.

"Ok, be careful and don't stay away too long…"

After a quick goodbye to the rest of his family, Edward was gone, his departure signaled by his Volvo rushing down the driveway.

W

That night for the first time in days, Harry bolted up from bed in a sweat. Harry looked around for a few moments in a panic, he was somewhere he didn't recognize. Then everything came back to him, Alice. The petite vampire was nowhere to be seen.

Throwing on a shirt and bottoms, Harry left the room and went to the bathroom where he splashed his face with cold water… the nightmare was always the same. His friends died, Voldemort won and there was nothing he could do about it.

Deciding he wasn't going to get back to sleep, he dried off his face and made his way downstairs. Arriving in the living room he saw Carlisle at the table with some paperwork and half a dozen medical textbooks spread out in front of him. Esme was relaxing on the sofa reading a book Harry had loaned her earlier. 'Fantastic Beasts & Where to Find Them'

"Hi Harry, trouble sleeping?" Esme asked in a concerned tone.

"Just a nightmare, nothing to worry about" Harry said with a smile, he didn't want to worry her. "Where's Alice?"

"She's out… with the others," Carlisle said awkwardly. Harry was pretty sure he was going to say 'She's out with the other's feeding'

Harry figured it would take a while for them to get used to talking about their nature around him.

"Well; I'm thirsty myself," Harry joked, trying to show them that he wasn't uncomfortable with what they are. "Mind if I get myself a cup of tea?"

"Help yourself dear," Esme said with a blinding smile. "We don't drink it anyway."

After a few minutes Harry sat on the sofa across from the vampire couple with a hot cup of tea.

"So Harry," Esme said putting the book down. "Tell us about yourself, do you have any family back in England?"

Harry sat with the heads of the Cullen clan for almost an hour talking about his life back in England. Harry tried to keep the topic off his family, he didn't think Esme would react well to the Dursleys.

He just finished telling the story of how he and Ron knocked out a troll with it's own club when Alice walked into the room and plopped herself down on Harry's lap.

"I'm sorry," she said with a sad pout as she kissed him lightly.

"Sorry for what?" Harry asked, wondering what she was upset at.

"This is the first time I've left you alone in bed since we met and you had a nightmare, that's not a coincidence," she explained as she cuddled further into him.

"That's not your fault," Harry said soothingly as he wrapped his arms around her center. "I've been having these nightmares since the end of the war."

"War?" Carlisle asked in concern.

"Long story," Harry answered evasively, he wasn't quite ready for that conversation.

"Come on," Alice chirped as she stood up and pulled Harry up with her. "Let's go back to bed"

Alice pulled Harry into her room and left him as she walked into the closet.

"I'm not that tired," Harry said as he pulled off his shirt. "After a nightmare I always have trouble getting back to sleep."

"Well, we'll have to find a way to tire you out now won't we?" Alice said as she opened the closet doors wearing only three things, a black lace bra, matching lace panties and a smile.

She sauntered over to Harry who was speechless. Placing her hand on his shoulder she pushed him gently so he was laying back, she then crawled up until she was straddling him.

"What? Nothing to say?" Alice asked with a grin, proud of herself for the reaction she was getting. Harry could think of only one thing to say.

"I love you."

Alice was shocked, this was one thing she hadn't seen coming before it happened, this was the first time Harry had said those three words to her. She'd fantasized about this moment thousands of times over the past eighteen years and now that it was finally happening she could only do one thing to reply.

"I love you too," Alice leaned down and kissed him passionately.
