Chapter Fourteen
Sleepless in Forks
Disclaimer: S.M. owns the characters, the places and everything. I just play around with them according to my imagination.
On the way home, I did plenty of things. I went to the vet. Got Sunny some stuff. Then, I went to the supermarket for groceries to make the lasagna. Once I was home I did half of my homework and spent some time looking for some things for Sunny that I thought would be useful.
Charlie got home just as I was starting to separate things to make the lasagna. I stopped doing that for a minute and rushed to hide all of Sunny's things. I also made sure to shut her in the laundry room for a while with a ball of yarn. I wanted her to be a suprise! I thought that sideblinding him would be a good idea. I would just present him the cat and show him that everything was pretty much taken care of. Only after he had come in, I realised that I had forgotten the round fluffy toy I had bought her on the mantle.
I chatted a little bit with Charlie as I made the lasagna and a little while later he helped me set the table.
I handled the meeting with Billy and Jacob as well as I could. I managed to keep all conversation topics away from the Cullens. Jacob and I moved to the couch after dinner and we talked a little about his sisters and the reserve. I agreed to visit over with Dad sometime. When they were about to leave, a white thing flew and started playing with a napkin that had fallen to the floor.
"What is that?" Jacob said.
"Oh, um, I was just about to tell Dad." I said throwing an innocent look Dad's way. "This is Sunny. I rescued her today."
Sunny started rubbing herself against Jacob,'s legs and he nudged her away with a disgusted look. "I don't like cats," He said looking at me sheepishly.
Ha. The dog does not like cats. Priceless. I swallowed a giggle.
A little while later, Charlie closed the door and turned around to give me a look. I picked Sunny up and held her against my cheek.
"C'mon dad! Please!" I raise my hands with the kitten in them. "I already bought her food and her litterbox. We've got a huge pillow that can serve as her bed! And I found a ball of yarn for her to play with. It was probably my mom's since it is in the most hideous color I've ever seen." It was a brown, yellow, green combination that stood out against the couch's soft color.
"I don't know, Bella," Charlie looked at the cat dubiously. "I'm not used to having you ask me for things. Have you ever had a pet before? Taking care of one is a serious responsability."
"Well..." I stalled, "I wasn't really ready to have one before. But I'm now, I really think I can take on that responsability. Specially because I get a little lonely here sometimes and I think Sunny will be really good company."
"You will take complete care of it?"
"Well, actually... I want it to be ours. Sunny won't be just mine. And I would be so happy if you could help me by feeding her in the morning." I moved the cat closer to her face and it gave out a small meow. Charlie rubbed his forehead and used a finger to tentatively touch under Sunny's ear. He turned around and went to turn on the TV?. I held Sunny closer to me and she nuzzled my neck.
"Guess we won this battle, uh? I hope Rosalie doesn't get too angry."
As I was putting her down. I hit the round fluffy toy I had forgotten was on the mantel next to me , the ball rolled far from it and Sunny ran after it. When she got near it, she attacked it and after she got it, she brought it to me.
"Oh, you want to play fetch? Aren't you a doggish cat?" I threw the ball so the cute little thing could chase it, careful not to hit anything.
I spent the rest of the time before going to bed playing with her and when it was finally time to go to sleep, I set up everything and finally I put Sunny pillow-bed in the hallway, right in front of my bedroom. That way, I could check on her if I heard anything go awry. Then I set her on it, since she was really tired after playing.
I walked to my room and felt her following me.
"No, Sunny," I said in a commanding -or at least that's how I wanted it to come out- tone. "You can't go into my room. Stay." I started to close the door, trying to resist her pitiful looks.
I dressed to go to sleep and tucked myself in bed, ready to sleep. I managed to do so, but only for a while.
"Hey, Bella." I heard as someone shook me not so gently. "Wake up,"
I opened my eyes to find Rose's only an inch from my face.
"Ok, I told you. Stop being so creepy." I said as I put my palm to her face trying to push it away from mine. She leaned away and sat crossed legged in the bed.
"So, missed us today? Anything you want to tell me?"
"Nothing interesting. Today I talked with Jessica and Angela. I think I'm going to hang out with Angela this weekend." I yawned, my mind still hazy with sleep.
"Really? Are you sure?" She had a crazy look in her eye, so I rolled a little, facing the other side of the room to avoid looking at her.
"Yes, absolutely. What did you guys do today?"
"We went hunting. We played some card games. I did a sketch of the little one that I brought for you." She pulled out a piece of paper with an accurate drawing of my baby. I got up to look around my room for a frame to put it in. While I was doing this, Rosalie kept talking. "But, imagine my surprise when I come to bring it over to you and I smell something strange to the house in it."
"What do you- oh!" I said looking up at her. "Don't be mad! I completely forgot! I found her under my car after school, I couldn't just leave her there."
"You are wrong there," She said making a disgusted face. "You could have left that useless thing on the streets."
"Rosalie..."
"First, you say you want to go slow and easy and blablabla. Now, you adopt that thing!" I rolled my eyes and went back to bed, ignoring her. She looked at me. "What do you have to say for yourself, Bella? Are you ignoring me?" I head her teeth grind.
"I'm going to sleep since you are being such a bother. Good night, Rose." She got in my face again and I backed away a little. I might have been acting brave, but Rosalie was definitely a force to be reckoned with and I didn't really want to be punched. I just wanted her out.
She sent me a burning glare and in a blink, she was at the window. She didn't say a thing as she went away but I was left unsettled.
I stretched a little and laid back down on the bed. I closed my eyes and tried to fall sleep again.
"Meow", I heard. I sighed and ignored it.
"Meow," the little thing repeated.
I got up, opened the door and found the cat looking at me.
"What is it? Are you hungry? Your water is right their and it's full." I put a little more of the cat food on her small bowl and went back to bed.
"Meow," I hit my pillow.
"Meow," Sounding this time a little longer.
The sound continued being uttered for hours. I knew, however, that letting the cat enter my room was not a good idea. Not only would it want to sleep there every night, but it also would leave its hair everywhere and I knew not Edward nor Rose would like that.
So, that was a sleepless night. Sunny got tired at five o' clock and after tossing and turning for a while, I decided to get up and have everything ready for school.
I spent a while in front of the mirror, glaring at the purple circles under my eyes. I wasn't supposed to look vampirely yet! I chuckled at my sarcastic thoughts before going on with the, now practically automatic, 'Beautifying -more like useless. Routine'. My hair looked really good after I spent some time on it.
As I was walking down the downstairs, I felt Charlie get up and I started preparing a quick breakfast for him. He took a look at my face and I answered before he could ask me why I had dark circles the size of the Grand Canyon under my eyes.
"Sunny was a little fuzzy last night because I didn't let her sleep in my room. Did you not hear her at all?"
"Not a sound. She is dead asleep right now, though."
"Evil little kitten," I muttered under my breath before drinking some milk.
"Why are you up so early? You could take advantage of the fact that she is asleep and catch some rest."
"No, I gave up. I can't sleep now. My eyes won't stay closed."
I gave Charlie a kiss in the cheek that had him blushing before going upstairs to do some homework. A while later, I looked at the clock and realised it was time to get ready for school. I got dressed, took care of a few more things around the house, checking Sunny had everything she would need while I was away. I had to get dressed again. I had fallen outside while I was walking to the car. This had resulted in me getting my pants all wet.
Finally, I got in the car.
I rubbed my face before starting the car. The mittens around my hands helped warm them a little and rubbing them around my face helped with the ice cold feeling on it too. I only hoped this day would get better. If the way it started was any way to tell, it would be a disaster.
Ok, there it goes. It was a pleasure writing this chapter. And guess what? I have a plus beta on my team now. She is wonderful. her name is nickaroos and I know that you will, just as I do, see what a great job betaing this chapter! Thanks girl!
I hope you enjoy it. Thank you to all of you. You know reviewers are my favorites because they are the ones that I feel help me the most. There was an annonymous the other day that pointed out a typo and saved my life. I. LOVE. YOU. ha ha. And I gotta say, I saw a review of someone very dissapointed because I was 'leaving' the story unfinished. I'm not! I'm working on it. I have many responsabilities but I'm trying to juggle them and write this story, even if it is at a slow pace. I'm sorry you are so dissapponted at that.
Followers and reviewers, hugs for all of you. Welcome to the new readers!
That's it, Ly OFF!
Enjoy your weekend!
