Chapter 107

Haven…

"I know that expression…you're up to something," Kara said as she got dressed after her shower. She was preparing for the op to take out the resurrection ship. "What is it? The last time I saw that expression you went and took the tylium operation single-handedly."

"That resurrection ship is very advanced. Besides that…we don't know that destroying it will stop the cylons. It could just slow them down until they build another. They might already have another ship. I need to capture it to try to figure out the technology and a way to block it on a massive scale," Harry explained.

Additionally Harry had some hope of making the technology compatible with humans. If humans shared physiology with the cylons then the cylons should have no reason to hunt humans. But he kept that to himself for he didn't think most humans were ready for that idea.

"So you're going to go try to capture it yourself? That's fracking crazy. I know you are powerful…but not that powerful," Kara said with a terrified expression for her lover.

"I am," Harry assured.

Despite how short a time she had known Harry, Kara found herself already falling for him. She didn't want to lose him.

"I don't want to lose you. Our plan will work. And that ship just isn't worth it," Kara said while stepping closer to him and looking at him pleadingly to give in to her desire.

"Kara," Harry said as he reached up and cupped her cheek with his right hand. "There are things you still don't know about me."

She closed her eyes and leaned into his touch before saying, "So tell me."

"Someday," Harry said before he kissed her.

She kissed him trying to let him feel all the emotions she felt for him.

When he drew back and opened her eyes she found herself in her quarters onboard Pegasus. She looked around a little bewildered and realized he was already gone.

Haven

It had taken quite a bit of time to maneuver Haven close enough to the cylon ship named Resurrection without risking being spotted. Harry was under a cloaking spell but that still didn't mean he wanted to push his luck. The cylons might have means of detection that the Colonials didn't possess. But so far things had gone well. Once Harry had jumped in close to the cylon fleet he had used something he was calling his Broom Drive to get closer. Harry had managed to permanently conjure enough material over the past few weeks to line the main superstructure of Haven with the materials used in making brooms.

Harry had wondered once at school how brooms worked and with Hermione's help had found out all the details. It took quite a bit of power to get something as large as Haven flying and the charms didn't handle exactly like a broom when used on Haven. The charms hadn't meant to be used on something quite so large. But the Broom Drive was good for accelerating slowly up to considerable speeds and was good for maneuvering. Harry had undertaken this project for just such a situation requiring extreme stealth. Harry waited until Haven was right next to Resurrection's hull. Then he tapped on a set of runes set into the right arm of the chair he had enchanted to help him control the Broom Drive. The locking rune sequence caused Haven to remain a meter apart from Resurrection's Hull.

Harry rose out of the chair and walked out of Haven's bridge. Harry walked through the corridors of his ship a short ways until he came to one of the bedrooms where he knew Resurrection was closest. Harry laid his hand on the hull and closed his eyes. He reached out with his senses. It took him a few minutes but finally he got what he was looking for.

"Bollocks," Harry told himself as he opened his eyes. "Nothing for it," Harry said before he apparated.

Harry appeared within the room onboard Resurrection he had just been sensing using his arcane abilities. Three human-form cylons and two centurions all focused on Harry's arrival at that moment. Harry had been ready for all of them though.

"Intruder," Four began to call to the centurions only for Harry to snap out two piercing curses directly into the heads of the centurions.

A number One tried running for the door while a Three went for one of the downed centurion's gun gauntlets. The One and Three went down to cutting curses that bisected them in half. Harry was counting on the resurrection process taking a little while.

Harry's gaze focused onto the Four. Harry gestured and Four was flung into the wall where he stuck there. Harry squeezed with his fist and Four began choking.

"I've always wanted to do this," Harry said with a grin. He released his grip a few moments later and asked, "Where is the bridge?"

"Go frack yourself," Four responded before coughing.

"Let's see how this works on you," Harry said before silencing the room and casting a cruciatus curse.

A few minutes later Harry stepped out of the room where he had just interrogated the Four wearing an illusion that made him look like a Four. Harry encountered a few cylons both human-form and centurion model on the way to Resurrection's bridge. But none of the cylons were the wiser to his true identity. When Harry entered the bridge a Two, a Three, and a Five were on duty operating the ship. There were no centurions on the bridge. Harry stood there at the entrance and glanced over the layout of the room. He pressed his palm to the door and sealed it shut with a locking charm.

Finally the Three looked up from her console at him curiously and asked, "What is it?"

"I was just thinking how easy you toasters are to handle when I'm proactive," Harry mused more to himself than the cylons as he dropped his illusion.

A few minutes later Harry stood on the bridge monitoring the ship's systems. The Four had been very helpful on how to take control of the ship. Harry had vented all of the cylons to space. The human-form cylons could go longer in vacuum than humans but still eventually needed to breathe. Harry had prepared an illusion runic array onboard Haven which would make it seem like business as usual for Resurrection and vanish any cylon corpses that shot out of the airlocks. All of the remaining centurion models were conveniently heading towards Resurrection's bridge. Harry began whistling to himself as the first of those centurions began to try to get through the door to the bridge.

Once Harry dealt with these toasters he planned to jump Haven out and leave behind an illusionary decoy which he believed was good enough to fool even sensors. Harry wasn't completely sure on that account but it didn't really matter once he had the ship.

Haven

"Thank you for coming," Harry said.

"Thank you for inviting me," Helena said as she stepped through the airlock.

Helena felt somewhat nervous stepping into Potter's ship. But she forced that feeling away with the realization that if he wanted her dead or wanted to do anything to her she doubted there was anything she could do to stop him. Helena didn't like that feeling of helplessness but realized there was little she could do about it.

"The dining room is this way," Harry said as he led Helena deeper into his ship.

Helena looked about the space yacht as they walked and noted that it had been modified quite a bit inside to accommodate survival tools.

"So you were a survivalist," Helena noted as they reached the dining room.

Helena sat across from Harry at the small table at his gesture. He retrieved covered trays of food and took the covers off to reveal delicious looking meals.

"Dig in," Harry invited as he sat down. "I am a survivalist," Harry corrected.

"Well suited to the current situation," Helena noted after chewing her first bit of food. "This is delicious," Helena thought.

"Indeed," Harry mused. "I could see that the conflict that has arisen was likely coming and took appropriate precautions as a response."

"And the situation with LoK? How did that come about?" Helena asked curiously.

Harry took a bite of food and didn't respond right away. Helena thought for a moment that she had overstepped the bounds of this conversation, whatever that might be.

"I'll make you a deal, an exchange of information of sorts. I will tell you how I became involved with LoK. But you must tell me something," Harry said.

"I'll need to know what you want to know before I agree to that," Helena replied.

"I want to know what drives you to make the hard decisions you've had to make," Harry said.

Helena's mind immediately flashed back to a traumatic event in her childhood. Harry's legilimency latched onto that memory before it could disappear again and copied it over to his mind. He had what he wanted now but it would work better if Helena recounted the story to him.

"I can agree to that," Helena said reluctantly.

"Good. My situation with LoK is a result of experiments I was performing on genetic enhancement. LoK saw the work I had been doing and approached me. When I first had him appear to me I thought I was going mad. He guided me on my research and then helped teach me how to use what I had created," Harry explained. "Over our time spent together I grew to admire him and what he was trying to achieve."

"What is that?" Helena asked genuinely curious.

"He calls it Surthrival. He doesn't want humanity to just survive this conflict with the cylons. He wants us to thrive and grow. There are other supernatural forces at work in this universe beyond LoK and the other divine factions. These other forces would see us repeat these mistakes with the cylons over and over. LoK wants to break the cycle," Harry explained.

"A noble goal it would seem. But not something we should trust blindly," Helena said.

"No…you're right of course. And I didn't trust him straight away either. It took me time. But I've come to see things his way after much observation," Harry said. "Now your turn."

"Well basically I've watched a lot of soldiers die," Helena said simply. "I grew tired of seeing that. Sometimes a few have to be sacrificed for the good of the many."

Harry was silent for several moments before he said, "I heard from your crew that you used to carry a pocket knife around and give speeches about the razor's edge. What is that about?"

Helena's gaze narrowed at that and her expression almost became stormy. But then unknown to her the calming charm Harry was directly at her from beneath the table countered her mood swing.

"I picked that knife up off the ground to fight off a cylon centurion at the tail end of the last war," Helena admitted. There was a long pause and Harry thought she might almost stop. "Moments earlier they took my sister."

"Your little sister?" Harry asked.

"Yes," Helena said in a tone filled with unresolved anguish.

"You blame yourself," Harry said knowingly.

Helena looked up from where she had been looking at the table and locked eyes with him.

"I should," Helena said with eyes that actually had tears threatening to fall from the corners.

Helena tried getting angry to force away the tears and the emotions which had worked so well in the past when she wasn't alone. But the anger wouldn't come. Instead all she felt was deep sadness and shame.

"Why should you blame yourself Helena?" Harry asked as he reached out and took her left hand in his right. The contact only strengthened the calming magic. "You were a scared little girl yourself."

"She was hurt…I waited too long to make a decision on what to do. A centurion came for her. I ran," Helena admitted as the tears did start to fall.

Harry released the calming charm and the tears began coming out in a rush. Harry talked with Helena using his arcane abilities judiciously to try to get to her to let it go. She made hasty decisive decisions now to compensate for her lack of decisions in the past getting her sister taken. Helena wasn't about to get over that past trauma in one day. But she would be able to move on Harry felt confident with his help.

Galactica CIC

"Resurrection is firing up its FTL drive in preparation for jumping out," Gaeta reported.

Galactica and Pegasus were in the middle of an all out battle with the miniature cylon fleet surrounding the Resurrection ship's space, or at least the illusionary Resurrection ship's space.

"Can we see anything of the Phoenix yet?" Bill asked.

"No sign of detection by the cylons," Gaeta reported. "There it goes sir. Phoenix has taken out Resurrection's FTL."

"Sir, the Phoenix just sent out a burst auto-distress message," Dualla reported.

Bill looked up in alarm at that news.

"Harry's ejection system should have protected Lee," Bill said. "Alert the Search & Rescue Raptor."

Haven

Harry sat in the Broom Drive control chair and maneuvered his ship through the void. He tapped out a sequence on the left arm of his chair and Haven automatically drew in Lee's pod. Lee was stunned and transported to a holding room with the other rescued viper pilots where they would later be returned to their respective ships from. Harry glanced back at a pair of holograms side by side floating to the left of his control chair. The first hologram showed Harry the status of the illusionary Resurrection. Everything was going as expected there. The next hologram relayed to Harry the positions of any ejected pilots still in space in the battle theater. To the right of his chair was a hologram that showed him the status of Haven's systems. To the right of the Haven hologram was a status check on the safety of those Harry cared about such as Kara. Floating larger than the other four holograms before Harry was a holographic display of all combatants in the battle theater. Harry watched as the viper squadrons moved out from Galactica and Pegasus to destroy the illusionary Resurrection.

Harry watched as the basestars and the two battlestars engaged one another in a furious ship-to-ship missile fight. At the same time the squadrons of vipers went up against squadrons of raiders.

The slug-fest that ensued went on and on minute after minute.

"Apollo, can you read me?" Dualla called over the radio. "Apollo, Apollo, gods damn it Apollo respond."

Anastasia Dualla jumped as text came across her screen.

"What is it?" Bill asked having noticed Anastasia jump.

"See for yourself Sir," Dualla suggested.

Bill came around to look at her screen and saw the text, "Lee is safe. Harry."

"Good man," Bill said. Just then one of the basestars went up with a massive explosion. "Focus fire on the remaining basestar."

While Pegasus and Galactica focused on the remaining basestar Kara's attack squadrons went after the resurrection ship.

"We've got it," Kara cried on the radio as the resurrection ship exploded only three minutes later.

"And we've got this one," Kendra Shaw said from the Pegasus CIC after hearing Kara's call while watching the remaining basestar explode.

"Sir, the remaining cylon raiders have jumped away," Gaeta reported onboard Galactica.

"Set condition two throughout the ship," Tigh ordered.

"Admiral Cain on the line for you Sir," Dualla reported. "On the private line," She added.

"Put me through," Bill said as he picked up a hand set.

"It seems we can work together," Helena said over the handset.

"You sound different to our meeting before," Bill noted.

"Harry has gotten me thinking," Helena replied.

"He has that effect. We're lucky to have him in the fleet," Bill replied.

"I can see that," Helena said. "I think we have enough celebrating to do for now that we don't need to be getting on with anything else."

With that Helena hung up. Bill lowered the hand set back to the cradle.

"Sir?" Dualla said questioningly.

"I think things might just work out," Bill said before moving off to deal with tasks that demanded his attention.

Pegasus Brig

Grace watched invisibly as the model Six snapped the neck of the guard as Gaius distracted the guard. Grace reached out with her arcane powers and held the soul of the guard in place. Grace began repairing the damaged tissue but made it look like the guard was still completely injured. Grace waited until Gaius had helped the Six escape and was knocked unconscious by the Six before she released the illusion. Grace intentionally let out a burst of arcane energy strong enough that any magic-user within a few kilometers would sense it.

Moments later LoK teleported into the brig. Harry searched around for the source of the disturbance he had just felt.

"Residual healing magic on the guard," Harry noted. "Where is Gina? She isn't around Gaius," Harry noted.

The energy being was normally found hovering near Gaius. But Gina wasn't there. Harry wasn't sure what happened but he had some new mysteries to ponder. He would think about them but for the time being teleported out of the brig with more questions than when he had arrived.

Pegasus, Admiral Cain's Quarters

"Admiral, can you hear me?" Kendra shouted frantically as she pressed her hands over the ruin that was Helena Cain's chest.

There was no response and Kendra was frantic as she tried to stop the bleeding. Kendra had been on her way to Cain's quarters after news of the cylon prisoner escaping had reached the XO.

"Someone help!" Kendra shouted hoping that someone would hear her.

Kendra had run inside Cain's quarters only noticing that the guards were down on the ground. There was no sign of a grievous injury to the guards and Kendra just hoped the cylon had knocked them out.

"Move," Harry said as he materialized in his LoK form.

Kendra sat back on her butt and watched as LoK knelt over Helena. He placed his hands on her chest and his palms lit up with a brilliant glow. Kendra couldn't look at the sight for too long. Within ten seconds the glow faded and Helena sat up with a gasp.

Resurrection

Helena walked off of Haven after Bill, Lee, Grace, Kara, President Roslin, and Kendra. Helena used her cane to help her get along. Harry was behind her. Ever since the attack she had been weaker, not herself. LoK had healed her most of the way. But she had a longer recovery until she was fully herself again if ever. LoK had saved her life. From what Kendra had said Helena's heart had been ruined.

"Alright, you have us here. The question is why?" Laura asked Harry.

"And where is here?" Lee asked while looking around the ship corridor the group found themselves on.

"This is the cylon ship known as Resurrection," Harry stated.

The reaction to that ran the spectrum from fascination to cursing.

"Do you want to clarify that son?" Bill asked. "Considering we put a lot of effort into destroying this vessel I would have thought it would have been pretty hard to be standing on it."

"LoK realized this ship was a potential valuable tool. The cylons do not know we have it," Harry explained. "Your efforts were very convincing to the cylons. There are cylon agents among the Colonial fleet."

"Brilliant," Helena complimented. "What can this baby do?"

"It can capture the consciousnesses of any cylons who die in the region. You can interrogate them after you put them into new bodies," Grace supplied.

"You trust her?" Kendra asked while pointing to Grace.

"I do. And LoK does," Harry said while looking at Grace.

"This must be kept very secret," Laura advised. "Someone needs to oversee this entire venture…this project."

"I'm calling it Project Second Chance," Harry said. "I've got someone in mind for overseeing the project."

"Who?" Bill questioned.

Harry glanced to Helena.

Helena said, "Me. This is what you meant when you suggested I take a step back."

Harry and Helena had shared another meal earlier that day where he had suggested that due to her antagonistic relationship with Bill Adama perhaps it would be best that she take a step back from things.

"You…what about Pegasus?" Bill asked.

"Kendra is a good XO. With Fisk helping her she should be able to handle things while I oversee this project. It has worked well while I have been recovering," Helena said.

"Sounds good to me," Laura suggested. "Obviously LoK and Harry agree. Perhaps we can trouble you for a tour Harry?"

"Of course," Harry agreed before beginning a tour of the ship.

Eighteen Weeks After Joining the Fleet

Haven's systems came alive as Harry sat down in the control chair and focused on seeing what was wrong with his girlfriend. The monitoring charms Harry had placed on Kara's person were alerting him to danger on her part. Immediately Haven located Kara and Harry tapped into the communications channels.

"Damn it," Kara called. "Kat, are you ok?

"What the hell just happened? Kat asked.

"Your port gun exploded," Kara answered. "Just keep it steady and we'll head home."

A closer look at Kara's viper revealed a cracked cockpit cover most likely from debris.

"Ok," Kat said.

"Galactica, this is Starbuck. We've got two bad birds and request priority to land," Kara called over the radio. But even as she said it Kara watched her cockpit cover's cracked surface knit back together until every crack was gone. She knew immediately her Harry was at work. "Correct that…one bird I'm sure is bad and one that might be experiencing issues."

"Starbuck, this is Galactica. Flight deck is yours," Galactica's operations duty officer stated.

Galactica Main Viper Hangar

"If you just shoot us in the locker room you will save two ships Chief," Kara told Tyrol.

"Kat's guns were clean. I checked them myself," Tyrol insisted as he walked past Kara towards Kat's ship.

Kat's viper gun had exploded during a weapons firing exercise and damaged Kara's ship.

"Chief, something isn't right here," Cally reported as Tyrol approached where she had been examining Kat's gun.

Tyrol took the two rounds Cally handed her.

"The weight is off. These rounds are too light," Tyrol noted. Then he gripped one round in both hands which he broke in half. "What the hell."

"I found three more just like this one mixed in with regular rounds," Cally said.

"The casing has been weakened so that it falls apart in the barrel. When the next one hits a faulty round…bang. Kat is lucky she didn't lose her whole wing," Tyrol explained as he handed Kara one of the lighter rounds. "One bad round is a fluke. More than one is sabotage." To all the crew on the deck he called, "Pull em all."

Further investigation traced the faulty rounds back to the Colonial fleet's manufacturing group and to a civilian named Asha Yanik.

The foreman pointed Lee, Kara, and the marines with them towards a brown haired woman in a green jump-suit who was working with a line of viper rounds.

"Asha Yanik," Kara said as she approached the woman.

Asha looked up and when she recognized her guests she stood straight.

"Captains Adama and Thrace. I have a message for Commander Adama," Asha stated. Then she began shouting and backing away looking for a place to run. "They may take me but I am just one of many." Asha tried running up a staircase to an exit hatch but the marines grabbed her. "We have declared war on Galactica's army of death." The marines began to drag her away. "The cylons aren't our true enemy. It's a military that refuses to negotiate. All we want is peace. Demand Peace. Demand Peace."

"Yeah…that was super discreet," Kara said wryly.

Adama's Briefing Room

"We found these pamphlets in Yanik's quarters," Bill said as eh went around handing out copies of the pamphlets. "It's some kind of manifesto."

Bill, Tigh, Lee, Gaius, and Harry were present. Laura Roslin was in a bad way in the infirmary. It was thought that she wouldn't live long.

"Demand Peace," Tigh said incredulously while looking at the pamphlet. "They want peace from cylons?" He asked incredulously.

"I had no idea cylon sympathizers were this well organized," Gaius admitted.

"How did this woman get onboard my ship?" Bill asked.

"With the hangar deck short staffed civilians were brought in to handle some of the grunt work.

"Handle it indeed," Harry mused.

"Listen to what this crap says," Tight spoke up. "Do not be afraid. We are not terrorists. But we will not sit back while Adama's war machine continues to press us into futile conflict."

"Their demonstrations are effective. News is already spreading across the fleet," Lee reported.

"We were contacted by a person claiming to speak for the subversives," Bill reported. "This person demanded a meeting on the Galactica."

"Well these people have stones I'll give them that," Tigh said in a tone that suggested he knew what Bill's response would be.

"You're going to go for the meeting," Harry surmised.

Tigh looked up at Bill in surprise and watched as the commander nodded and said, "Yes. I don't plan to negotiate. But I do want to know what we are dealing with. This person will hopefully give me a good indication of that.

Harry sat in on the discussion for a while longer before turning his attention back to Roslin.

Galactica Med Bay

Harry watched the president of the colonies as she died from cancer. She was experiencing visions. He could tell that much from surface legilimency. It appeared some of these visions were actually teaching her things. He thought back to a conversation with Kara a short while ago.

Flashback

"Are you able to heal President Roslin?" Kara asked.

"Most likely," Harry answered. "I would have to run a diagnostic scan of the status of her cancer. But I think I could do it."

"Ok…then why haven't you done it?" Kara asked.

"Who do I do it as…LoK or Harry? And if I do it for her…don't you think everyone in the colonies is going to want healing from deadly injuries?" Harry asked in response.

"You have healed quite a few people from mortal injuries already," Kara pointed out. "How is this any different?"

"Those were mortal injuries gained in the heat of battle. This is a disease. It takes things a step further. People would see I can heal terminal diseases," Harry explained.

Kara thought about that and after coming to see his point of view told her boyfriend, "To me it wouldn't matter. But I see where you are coming from. I would do it as Harry and say that it is only a power LoK granted you temporarily through him for this special case because Laura is valuable to the colonial fleet."

"I've been thinking about that very idea," Harry agreed. "I'm not going to lie and say that the fact that this would make Laura more indebted to me wouldn't be an added benefit. But I don't think it's her time to go."

End Flashback

That was how Harry found himself watching Roslin in the med bay. He had already mapped the cancer and was contemplating the best spells to use. He was also waiting to see what her visions taught her. Harry could sense she wasn't in imminent threat of death yet. Harry made sure that connection…that sense of Roslin's mortal state…was intact before he went to watch the interrogation of the Demand Peace movement's negotiator.

Adama's Briefing Room

Harry walked back into the room as the negotiator, a man named Royan Jahee, was seated at the briefing table.

"How many sympathizers do we have onboard this fleet?" Bill questioned.

"If you are trying to crush an organization you can stop now," Jahee replied. "The people in this movement are following an idea, not a leader."

Surface legilimency revealed that there was a leader though. The members of Demand Peace didn't know it but their leader was in fact the cylon Six model Gaius had freed from the Pegasus.

"What exactly is it that these members of Demand Peace want? We want to hear the movement's exact goals," Harry said.

"What they want is simply peace with the cylons Mr. Potter," Jahee answered. "They attacked us yes…but only after we enslaved them."

"This is true," Grace said as she entered the room. Bill and Saul looked mildly but glanced towards Harry to see that she had come at his behest. Grace had actually been standing outside since Harry entered listening to what the goals of this movement were. "But before that enslavement came creation. The enslavement was wrong and so was the massacre just committed."

"But you seem to be at peace with humans," Jahee pointed out.

"I assure you…most of my kind do not share my enlightened view," Grace replied. "In time more may come to see our viewpoint…but they are not there yet. The majority would gladly still slaughter every last human." Grace turned to Bill and said, "Commander, I think a crash course on cylon society is in order for Mr. Jahee. Caprica-Sharon could be of assistance."

"An excellent idea. But Caprica-Sharon isn't able to help," Bill said without elaborating. Bill doubted that Caprica-Sharon would be in a helpful mood with Roslin's decision to terminate the pregnancy. "Please go do that."

"They think they are being secretive enough keeping the decisions to abort the pregnancy from me," Harry mused to himself as he watched Grace, Jahee, and the marines leave. "Not nearly enough," Harry thought.

Harry had no intention of letting the baby be aborted.

"Bringing her was a brilliant move," Bill complimented.

"It was…she can hopefully convince him. If not…sending him to be with his beloved cylons might help," Saul suggested.

"It might just at that," Harry mused. "If I wire him up with some concealed monitoring equipment and we broadcast his reception by the cylons to the entire fleet."

"That would kill the movement right quick…assuming the cylons wouldn't find your monitoring methods," Bill said.

"Oh they wouldn't," Harry assured.

Further investigations by Lee were revealing among Yanik's belongings data which suggested Demand Peace would be targeting the Daru Mozu which was a tylium ore refinery ship. Before Lee could get there an explosive had been set off on the Daru Mozu. Kara had been part of the investigation with Lee. She had thought ahead and let Harry know of the imminent threat. LoK had gotten there first and prevented the explosion.

Helo's Quarters

"I know what you intend to do," Harry said from his LoK form behind Helo just after the officer had strapped a side-arm onto his belt.

Helo spun to face the intruder while drawing the side-arm. He lowered the side-arm when he realized he was in the presence of LoK.

"I won't let them kill my baby," Helo said in a resolute tone while re-holstering the side-arm. "You'll have to kill me to stop me."

"I have no intention of killing you Helo. I wouldn't have to in order to stop you," Harry said confidently. "I'm here to tell you that I will take care of the abortion. I will make sure it doesn't work."

"You will?" Helo asked in surprise.

"Yes. Have faith," Harry assured.

"But why?" Helo asked as Harry turned to go.

"Your child isn't predispositioned to evil just because of what it is. There is no reason to kill your baby," Harry said.

And just like that LoK was gone. Helo blinked. Helo wasn't sure what to do. He warred with himself inside for several minutes before he decided to still go to the med bay to see what happened. On the way he decided that his good friend Kara trusted Harry and LoK…so Helo would too.

Med Bay

When Bill arrived in the med bay with the contingent of marines transporting Caprica-Sharon to abort the baby he found his way barred by LoK. LoK's brilliant green eyes glowed brightly beneath the shadow of his hood. The sight was intimidating.

"You hid this from me or tried because you knew it was wrong," LoK said.

"This child is a threat," Bill said while gesturing towards the sedated Caprica-Sharon.

"The child is not predispositioned to evil just because of what it is," LoK repeated.

Harry stood over Roslin's bed and held his hands over the unconscious president. Harry's hands began to glow a brilliant white.

"What's he doing?" Bill asked.

Several marines began to raise their weapons towards Harry without Adama's leave, frightened by what they were witnessing. LoK gestured and the weapons were slammed to the floor along with the marines whose shoulder straps the weapons were attached to.

"Helping," LoK answered.

"Stand down," Bill barked at the marines when he realized what they had been doing with their weapons to earn such treatment.

Bill and the others watched as the glow faded and Laura slowly opened her eyes.

"What's going on?" Laura asked.

Gaius came along the corridor leading into the med bay carrying several x-ray photographs at that moment and stopped behind Helo who was also watching.

"What is going on is that LoK has granted me the temporary power to heal you," Harry said. "What he wants in return is for you to not kill Helo and Caprica-Sharon's child."

Laura sat up and glanced around at the tense situation before her. Laura thought for several moments about what was going on. If LoK wanted the child to live then she doubted there was anything they could do to stop him.

"Return her to her cell," Laura ordered. "We won't terminate the pregnancy." The marines began taking Caprica-Sharon back while Helo went with them. LoK disappeared. "Thank you," Laura told Harry.

"You do not need to thank me," Harry said. "Without LoK nothing would have been possible."

"I do need to thank you. Somehow I think he wouldn't have saved me without your making my case," Laura said.

"You may be right about that," Harry said.

"I think Gaius is going to be disappointed he won't become president," Laura said as she started to sit up.

"Oh I don't think he will," Billy said as he stepped up to assist Laura. "He looked terrified of the job when I briefed him."

"I knew that man was smart," Laura mused before something she had seen in one of her visions came back to her. "He's very popular. I need to think on this before I act…see if he is still working with the cylons."

"Smart but eccentric," Billy mused.

Pegasus

A hand leapt out of the darkness grabbing Kendra's wrist which startled her badly. She dropped the needle which she had been about to inject into her other arm and found herself facing the hooded figure of LoK.

"You do not need that," LoK said in his distorted voice. "I cannot have Pegasus' best XO on drugs."

"I do need it…to take away the bad memories," Kendra whispered. "To dull the pain."

"Those drugs will kill you and dull your wits. My essence will dull your pain and help your body. Extract it," LoK said while pressing lightly on her shoulders.

Kendra wasn't precisely sure what the god was talking about until he gently guided her to her knees and brought one of her hands up to his crotch. She felt his turgid hardness beneath her grasp and immediately began freeing him. His manhood was an impressive specimen which she took in hand. Kendra felt a sense of intense surrealness as she realized she was kneeling before a god about to pleasure him with her mouth. If he could help her like he promised without the bad side effects she had no problem doing as he urged.

Harry enjoyed Kendra's efforts until he released in her mouth. She drank down his load greedily and shook in orgasm as a wave of arcane energy coursed through her. Kendra moaned in bliss and clutched at his thighs while gasping for breath. When they were both sated Harry helped her to her feet.

"Thank you my Lord," Kendra said as he held her by her hips. Already Kendra felt much better. The pain of those who died on the Scylla wasn't plaguing her. She felt at peace. "I…I needed this," She said.

"You are very talented with your mouth. You will need this treatment every day. I will return here at the same time tomorrow," Harry told Kendra.

One moment Kendra was being held by LoK and the next moment he was gone. She felt like she missed his presence momentarily but felt he was still with her somehow. She could still taste the essence of him in her mouth. Kendra crouched down and picked up her discarded injection. She capped the needle and tossed it into a trash unit. She left the kitchens feeling much better than she had ever left there feeling using the drugs.

20 Weeks After Joining the Fleet

"Sorry I'm late," Harry said as he entered Roslin's briefing room.

"That's alright Harry," Laura said. "We were just getting started with the meeting."

Laura was willing to cut the man who had saved her life a lot of slack.

"You were saying something about a supply issue," Bill suggested.

"Yes…supplies are running low and it has people worried," Laura said.

"Well they wouldn't be civilians if they didn't have something to bitch about," Fisk suggested while stuffing his face with nuts.

Laura was the head of the civilian government. Fisk had basically just insulted her.

"In this case I believe they have cause for concern," Laura said. "Our inventory levels are tight but not critical. All over the fleet people are reporting shortages of essential goods. And what they do get comes at a high price."

"They're turning to the black market," Bill added.

Fisk raised his eyes like he was surprised.

"Last week one of my aides came down with pneumonia. Billy had to trade liquor to get the antibiotic," Laura said.

"It's the nature of the beast," Fisk said while reaching for another nut. "People want what they want."

"A few trades would be one thing Colonel," Laura said. "That is reality. I'm talking about criminals making outrageous demands on the people. Bottom line is I am implementing a new fleet wide trade policy. We need to be in control of our supply chain, not black market thugs. I am hoping I can have the military's support on this."

Harry picked up on Kendra's intent glances at Fisk. His curiosity got the better of him and he took a glance at her surface thoughts.

"I should never have left him in charge of inventory the fat bastard," Kendra thought while thinking dark thoughts of Fisk.

"Admiral, if you want Pegasus to run these dogs down you just give us the word," Fisk volunteered.

Bill stood and said, "Our people will do whatever it takes to get this under control. And it's good to have you back Madam President."

"It's good to be back. Thank you," Laura said. "Thank you all," She added before she left.

Harry caught Kendra on her way out of the briefing and drew her aside.

"What can I do for you Harry?" Kendra asked the handsome man curiously.

"My relationship with LoK allows me to know certain things," Harry said. Kendra's mind immediately jumped to what she and the god had been doing ever day in the Pegasus kitchens and she immediately flushed crimson. "I know Fisk is running inventory control for Pegasus."

Kendra's racing heart calmed down as she realized he wasn't referring to her servicing his patron.

"He is," Kendra confirmed.

"Be careful if you confront him about it. If he is willing to do what he has done he might not have any qualms about arranging an accident for you," Harry said. "I want you to know that LoK and I have your back."

"That's good to know. I appreciate that," Kendra said with a small smile for the man. "I'll be careful."

Kendra departed.

Galactica Infirmary

As it turned out Kendra needn't have worried about Fisk. The man was currently lying on a bed in a closed off section of the infirmary that acted as the morgue. Fisk had been garroted shortly after returning to Pegasus.

"I'm just getting started but from the looks of him I would say he was garroted," Cottle told the group assembled.

Bill, Tigh, Harry, and Kendra were present.

"This is the last thing we needed," Saul said.

Cottle began his examination and almost immediately found something in Fisk's mouth.

"Well this is strange," Cottle said as he pulled a golden cubit coin out of Fisk's mouth.

"Huh," Bill said. "If you find anything else let me know."

Bill turned and left with Tigh following. Kendra and Harry followed as well.

"Do you have any suspicions on who could have done this?" Bill asked Kendra as they reached his briefing room.

"After our meeting this morning I was suspicious Fisk had gotten in bed with the black market. He was in charge of Pegasus inventory control," Kendra explained.

"I advised her to be cautious on how to approach him and was going to help her if things got dangerous. Obviously that has happened," Harry added.

"If you two don't mind I could ask Lee to help with investigating this," Bill offered.

Kendra glanced at Harry briefly before saying, "I don't mind. He'll have to work with me though to get very far."

"That works," Bill agreed. "I'll talk to Lee."

Harry and Kendra left.

Pegasus, Fisk's Quarters

Lee entered Fisk's quarters to see Kendra and Harry already looking about the room.

"Thanks for coming Lee," Harry said.

"Anything to help," Lee replied as he began helping to search the quarters.

Despite the fact that Harry was with Kara, Lee couldn't dislike the man he found. Harry had done too much for the survivors of the colonies and had saved Lee several times with his ejection system.

Harry noticed Lee seemed mentally preoccupied while they were searching. Lee was practically projecting his thoughts with how focused he was upon something. Harry's legilimency picked up visions of a blonde haired woman named Gianne.

"I've seen this bracelet before," Lee said as he came across a bracelet marked with the letters E.T.

Before anyone else could say anymore the loud voice of Gaius Baltar could be heard through the door saying, "Do you know who I am? I am the vice president of the colonies. Let me in."

Kendra strode over and opened the door to see Gaius standing facing the two marine guards.

"And why would you want access to Colonel Fisk's quarters Mr. Vice President?" Kendra asked. "Let him in," Kendra directed.

"What is going on?" Gaius asked in alarm as he entered Fisk's quarters and saw all the blood on the desk.

"Isn't this your brand of cigar Doctor?" Lee asked Gaius while holding up a cigar box.

"Careful Gaius," Gina said. The energy shade had returned to Gaius' side but appeared much weaker than before. "Their old suspicions are re-emerging."

"Am I being interrogated?" Gaius asked.

"You are being questioned for your connection with Colonel Fisk," Harry pointed out.

"Your position as vice president does not exempt you from the law," Lee added.

"Colonel Fisk was butchered. His head was practically severed from his body with piano wire," Kendra said hoping to rattle the man.

"Colonel Fisk wanted to clear up some questions on President Roslin's new trade policy," Gaius said smoothly. "Is that sufficient or do I need to rustle up an alibi?"

"You can go," Lee said.

After Gaius had left Kendra said, "That man leaves me feeling like I need a shower."

"I can see that," Harry said as they went back to searching.

Fisk's personal logs were uncovered in a hidden cache which detailed his illegal transactions with black market contacts. The contacts themselves weren't detailed other than abbreviations. But the transactions were documented.

Cloud 9

Harry followed Lee invisibly into the quarters held by the woman Lee had been seeing named Shevon. Lee had started hooking up with Shevon shortly after the fleet had formed up because Shevon reminded Lee of his lost love Gianne. Shevon even had a little girl named Paya which made Lee think of the child he and Gianne could have had together. But Shevon had taken to becoming a call-girl in order to provide for Paya and herself. Lee had taken to paying Shevon to keep seeing her.

"Gods, what did they do?" Lee asked as he spotted Shevon's bruised eye when she let him through the door.

"They knew about you and me. They wanted to know what we've been talking about," Shevon explained as she stroked Paya's hair. "Lee I don't understand why they care."

"Get what you need," Lee said. "I'm taking you and Paya back to Galactica."

"Lee wait," Shevon said.

"It's the only place I can keep you safe," Lee replied.

"What are you going to tell them about us?" Shevon asked.

"I'm not fooling myself. I know what this is," Lee said.

Just then the door opened behind Lee and he turned to throw the bag he had been packing at the man who entered. Lee managed to grasp the arm of the thug with a gun and knocked the gun loose before beginning to struggle against the thug. As the two went to the ground another thug came in with a garrote and wrapped the wire around Lee's neck. Harry generated a focused shield charm around Lee's neck then as a third man. This new man was named Bill Phelan. Phelan knelt down next to Lee and tapped Lee twice on the forehead with two fingers.

"Are you listening Lee?" Phelan asked. "If I hear any more talk about Fisk I'm going to send Shevon back to you piece by piece. Then I'm going to start on the little girl. I know who you are Lee. I know whose son you are. And I don't care. You tell your father to let it go."

Phelan stood tall again and hit Lee knocking the pilot out. Lee was released from the garrote. Lee woke up later to an empty room except the addition of an unknown dead body. Harry had placed tracking charms on Shevon and Paya. Shevon had gone with Phelan's people willingly. The dead man had a garrote on him. Lee called security and they suggested the body belonged to Fisk's killer based off of the presence of the garrote. When the security officer was leaving an unexpected visitor showed up.

"Zarek, what are you doing here?" Lee asked.

"I just heard about the attack and came to see if you were alright," Tom replied. "I was at a quorum meeting."

"Tell me about the black market," Lee urged.

"It's widespread and inevitable," Tom said. "According to President Roslin it is also illegal."

"So you and Fisk were in it up to your necks," Lee suggested.

"Fisk maybe. But not me," Tom replied. "As the representative for Astral Queen I have to be careful about the company I keep."

"You see this Tom," Lee said as he pulled out a book. "This is Fisk's log where he states he made three runs to Astral Queen in the last ten days."

"What exactly is it you are looking for out of me, Captain?" Tom questioned.

"Names of ships, contacts," Lee replied.

"I can't help you. Let me ask you…why do you think Fisk approached me?" Tom asked.

"To get a taste of your black market scam by offering you protection," Lee said.

Tom chuckled and said, "You and your father are so blinded by the past. Fisk's market was up and running when he approached me. He knew Adama would pick up on his unauthorized shuttles. So he tried to force me into taking over the deliveries. This would create a firewall between Pegasus and the illegal shipments."

"And let me guess…you turned this down," Lee said.

"At great cost," Tom confirmed. "Check the fleet logs and see how many supply ships made stops at the Astral Queen after Fisk's last trip. None."

Lee stood to go but stopped and turned back to Tom.

"What do you know about who is behind the black market?" Lee asked.

"I've heard tale of a freighter named Prometheus. If you want something bad enough Prometheus is where you go. The deals are brokered by an ex-military mercenary named Phelan," Tom explained.

"You've been helpful Tom," Lee said before leaving.

Prometheus

Harry followed Lee still invisible into the bowels of the freighter that was the hub for the fleet's black market. The corridors and cargo bays were packed with people and goods. Sales were going on like an old time market stall from more primitive eras.

"Hey man, antibiotics," A vendor said to Lee while revealing a whole tray of antibiotics in pill bottles.

Lee walked passed and continued into the ship. He walked passed a door with a small barred window opening and looked inside. The room had quite a few children within.

"Paya," Lee whispered to Shevon's daughter when he spotted her. Paya came over to the door at the familiar face. "Hey," Lee said while sticking his fingers through the bars. "It's ok. It's Lee. You remember it's Lee. Just hang tight. I'm going to go find your mom."

Lee moved on. He went through a hatchway into a room that was set up like a bar. One of Phelan's thugs who had attacked Lee earlier began walking slowly behind Lee. Phelan came into sight then in a smoky back table of the bar room.

"You've got some balls walking in here," Phelan said.

"Not really," Lee said as he sat down.

"Why are you so confident?" Phelan asked suspiciously.

"You've heard of the guy called LoK right?" Lee asked.

"Of course," Phelan said while shifting uncomfortably in his seat a little bit. "He's just a lie your daddy made up to try to make the sheeple follow him."

"Do you think I'd be that confident if he was?" Lee asked curiously. "I'm betting LoK doesn't like people that do what you are doing with the children you have in that room I passed on my way in."

Phelan shifted uncomfortably again. Just then Harry, Kendra, and a team of marines all armed to the teeth with guns raised materialized behind Lee.

"Harry says LoK doesn't like child molesters," Kendra said as she pointed her gun at Phelan's head. "Child enslavers even less."

Harry had momentarily left Lee to retrieve Kendra and her team after having placed a listening charm on Lee to listen to the conversation. Harry had relayed the conversation to Kendra and had said that LoK would transport them in.

"I'm not coming quietly," Phelan said. "A lot of people are about to die."

"Or maybe just you," Harry said as he gestured at Phelan which caused a force-field to separate Phelan's head from neck. "I can use the same force-field to shield all of us from harm and then separate your heads from your necks," Harry announced.

There was a moment of silence as Phelan's life blood sprayed from his neck and then the guns aimed at Lee and Harry's group were lowered.

"The black market is necessary to deal with items the government simply can't manage at this time. But if we hear that critical items are being withheld or price-gouging goes on. We will be talking again," Lee said as he stood.

"And anyone who personally engages in enslavement or mistreatment of children will answer to LoK," Harry stated.

The group retrieved the children before LoK transported them back to Pegasus. After Lee exchanged a few words with Shevon who then left with Paya, Lee returned to Harry and Kendra.

"Well that was unexpected," Lee said.

"You took a big risk," Harry pointed out.

Lee's mind was focusing awfully intently on Gianne. Harry stumbled as a surge of pain hit him.

"Harry, what is it?" Kendra asked as she and Lee caught him to keep him from toppling over.

"I…I…don't," Harry started and then the trio was elsewhere.

They found themselves out in the open in a section of the capitol of Caprica.

"Gianne," Lee whispered as he saw his lost lover working on at a nearby café cleaning a table. But Gianne couldn't hear them. "Why can't she hear me?" He asked as he turned back to Harry.

"Harry, what is going on?" Kendra asked.

Harry looked dazed and confused. He was so weak. Then the explosion happened. A wave of nuclear devastation rolled over the area and Lee lost sight of Gianne. Kendra, Lee, and Harry remained untouched. Moments later it was like the scene reset itself. The couple that had been at the table Gianne was finishing cleaning up when the trio from the fleet had arrived was just leaving the table. Gianne slowly came over and started cleaning. Lee looked at her desperately as he somehow realized they had traveled back in time. Lee rushed over and knelt next to Harry.

"Harry, whatever is happening how can we save her?" Lee pleaded.

Harry forced his mind to clear through shear willpower. He wasn't constantly using his arcane abilities but he must have tapped into them.

"Help me up," Harry requested. Lee bodily hauled Harry upright. Lee was supporting most of Harry's weight. "Take me to her," Harry instructed.

Lee drug Harry over to where Gianne was working with Kendra following. Harry reached out to touch Gianne with his free hand. At first Harry's hand simply passed through her. But he furrowed his brow in concentration and then Gianne flashed blue before she was solid to Harry's touch. Gianne looked around bewildered until she saw the trio.

"Lee?" Gianne whispered in shock.

"Gianne," Lee said as he moved to embrace her and nearly dropped Harry.

"Careful," Kendra said as she ducked beneath Harry's free arm and took up part of his weight.

"We need to leave," Harry said as he felt the strong urge to get them out of there.

"Lee, what is going on?" Gianne asked.

"Gianne we need to go. Take my hand," Lee pleaded while imploring her with those eyes.

Gianne had once loved Lee before he had broken her heart. Despite the pain between them though she still somewhat trusted him. She reached out and took his hand just as a nuclear explosion went off in the distance. Harry willed with all of his might to return them safely to the right time and to someplace where they would be safe. If they had remained Harry's breaching of time would have made them vulnerable to the nuclear explosion.

Haven

Four people materialized out of thin air and landed on the bed Kara frequently shared with Harry just as she reached his bedroom after a long shift. She realized one of those people was Harry and started to recognize the others. The fourth person then permeated her brain.

"Gianne?" Kara asked in surprise. "How?"

"Harry took us back in time," Lee said while helping Gianne off the bed.

"He is LoK," Kendra said with surprise. She was the first to notice how he was unconscious and reached up to tap him lightly on the cheek, "Harry…can you hear me?"

Kara came closer as well and grabbed his hand.

"He's exhausted. He told me this has happened before," Kara said. "The exhaustion part. Not the time travel. He never said anything about that."

"He didn't seem to know," Lee said.

"Can someone explain this all to me?" Gianne asked.

"This is going to be a long story," Lee said. "Let's go someplace more comfortable."

"You'd all best head back to your ships because Harry might be out for a while. Don't say anything about what you have learned to anybody outside this room or LoK will have to erase a lot of memories," Kara said warningly.

"We won't stay anything," Kendra assured while Lee nodded his agreement.

"I don't know anything," Gianne replied.

"Gather around and I'll take you to my quarters on Pegasus. You can get back to Galactica from there," Kara said as she retrieved her portkey.

The group disappeared. Harry slept on recovering from magical exhaustion.
