Baking cookies, face masks, truth or dare, and dance parties, the key ingredients to a successful sleepover. These had all been routine in the lives of Usagi Tsukino, Rei Hino, Makoto Kino, Ami Mizuno, and Minako Aino's life. They'd been having monthly sleepovers since the age of 8 when they all met in elementary school. At the age of 17 some of the sleepover fundamentals had evolved. Baking cookies and dance parties would never change even if they lived to be 99, but truth or dare had become more than just eating a spoonful of ketchup on a dare. Boys were called now. Social media and public humiliation were involved. And God forbid someone should choose truth. Where Minako dug out some of her questions were terrifying. But perhaps the biggest change in their sleepover traditions was the shift from facemasks to makeovers.

Usagi got the Princess Leia look, complete with braided buns attached to the sides of her head and a form fitting white dress Minako conjured up from her stay-over bag. Makoto and Minako jumped at the chance to give Ami a gothic look- which she secretly loved. The blunette's hair had been gelled into a fauxhawk while her sharp eyeliner and dark blue lipstick made her look almost seductive. Rei opted for a 50's rockabilly look. Cateye eyliner, red lipstick, and a bandana wrapped around her head turned her into a regular Rosie. Makoto begged the girls to give her a dramatic look, so she got a smokey eye and nude lips while her hair was woven with flowers in an updo.

Minako surprisingly - and suspiciously- chose a more natural look. She parted her hair to the side with the only noticeable difference being the gold highlighter on her cheekbones.

"What's with you?" Rei asked, poking Minako in the shoulder while she applied her mascara.

"I don't know what you're talking about." Minako replied innocently as she switched eyes.

"No, I gotta go with Rei on this one," Makoto spoke up from her sleeping bag on the other side of the room. "Dramatic makeup is like your favorite thing ever. What's with the understated look?"

"Yeah, Meens. I thought you'd go for like an 80's look! All big hair and neon colors!" Usagi said from the middle of her bed.

"This is dramatic." Mina said, ignoring Rei's scoff. "This is my 'Come Hither' look. Guaranteed to bamboozle a man into making out with you."

The girls stared at the blonde with various degrees of unbelieving glares, even Ami closed her book to give Minako a withering look.

"What the hell are you even talking about?" Rei finally snapped.

"It's just us here. What 'man' are you trying to trick into making out with you?" Ami asked.

Mina ignored the girls and stared at herself in the mirror fluffing her hair with a mischievous smirk.

Jumping up on all fours, Makoto gave a loud gasp. "Mina, you didn't!"

"What? What didn't she do?!" Usagi rushed to the edge of her bed, looking at each of the girls, desperately trying to find out what Minako was up to.

"You invited Kunzite didn't you?" Rei accused.

"What?! Mina! My mom will kill me!" Usagi tried, but failed, not to yell.

"Relax. They're not coming up."

"They're?!" Ami's book was fully discarded now.

Before Mina could answer, there was a PLINK at the window.

The girls looked at each other, faces ranging from elation to horror, before running to the window to look at who was throwing pebbles outside.

Below on their lawn, they spotted a convertible and five male figures. Usagi gave a surprised squeal before dropping on the floor and away from sight. Makoto tried to open the window while Rei tackled her to the ground. Ami stood quickly and shut the curtains.

"What did you do?!" Ami hissed at Minako who was putting on wedges on her feet.

"I may have told a certain group of guys that there would be some hotties up for a drive around midnight."

"That was Nephrite, wasn't it?! Did you tell him I was gonna be here?" Makoto asked with a giant smile beneath Rei's elbow.

"Nope." Minako said. She watched Makoto's smile fall for two seconds before continuing. "He asked." Makoto's smile was so large Minako was surprised it didn't split her face in half. With a deep breath and a large shove, Rei was effectively shoved on the floor while Makoto fixed her jeans.

"Why did you make me look like Princess Leia if Mamo-chan was coming?!" Usagi looked murderous.

"Because Mamoru happens to be a huge dork and this will probably give his poor little nerd heart cardiac arrest."

"You think so?" Usagi asked, rushing to the mirror to fix her buns.

"Usa, no! We can't leave here!" Ami blocked the make-believe Leia from the mirror.

"Why not, Ames?" Makoto asked, peeking out the curtain and giving a small wave to the boys below.

"Because Mr. and Mrs. Tsukino trust us! We can't betray that trust by sneaking out!"

"Aw, come on Ami. Live a little!" Usagi shook the blue haired girl slightly, her excitement impossible to extinguish.

"She's just upset because she looks super hot and she knows that Zoi won't be able to form two sentences around her," Minako said with a smirk.

Rei and Usagi laughed and wiggled their eyebrows at Ami. Ami shoved Usagi off of her and whirled on Minako.

"You know how Zoisite is! Why did you give me this ridiculous look?!"

Minako looked Ami in the eye, all traces of amusement gone from her face. "I chose each makeover carefully. Mamoru loves Star Wars and Usagi is always trying to surprise him. Makoto loves the glam look because it makes her feel girly. Rei's lipstick is probably the hottest thing any of us have ever seen. And you look badass. And I know this look makes you feel badass. You and Zoi keep playing cat and mouse and I think it's about time you played the cat."

Ami stood frozen in Minako's gaze.

"That being said," Minako continued. "If you don't feel comfortable, I'll tell them all to go away."

Ami looked at Makoto and Usagi begging her with their puppy dog eyes to not ruin their fun and gave a defeated sigh. "I do look pretty intimidating, huh?"

Usagi threw herself at Ami in a hug. "Zoi won't know what to do with himself!"

"Okay, okay! Let's go before they think we don't want to come down," Ami finally caved.

"How are we supposed to leave anyway?! The front and back doors chime when you open them." Rei asked.

"Easy." Minako said and shoved all the girls aside as she threw open the curtains and opened the window.

"You're gonna climb down the tree?!"

"Yup!" She said as she swung a leg over and grabbed a branch of the large oak tree planted in Usagi's front yard. "But don't worry, Rei. If you slip and fall, I'm sure Jadeite will catch you," she threw back a wink before disappearing from the window.

"She's crazy."

"She's already halfway down, move." Makoto pushed past Rei to climb out.

"Ami, you're really going through with this?"

"Sorry, Rei. I kindof want to see Zoi speechless." The blunette shrugged and carefully stepped out the window.

"I bet you do this all the time," Rei directed at the pigtailed blonde that already had one leg out the window.

"Yup!" Usagi squeaked before jumping down. Rei gasped and looked down to see Usagi already in Mamoru's arms, laughing.

Rei stood inside and looked at the couples below. Nephrite had his arm around Makoto's shoulders as he complimented her flowers. Rei could see the stars in her eyes even from the bedroom. Zoisite looked catatonic in front of Ami who after a while began to wave her hand in front of his face trying to elicit a reaction. Unsurprisingly, Mamoru and Usagi were making out on top of his car. Rei spotted Minako and Kunzite leaning against the trunk of Mamoru's car. At first she thought they were making out but upon closer inspection she realized they were simply embracing. Kunzite was speaking into her ear and Minako was laughing into his shoulder. She never did peg Kunzite for the funny type.

Their sleepovers had indeed evolved from when they had just been little girls. Rei wondered what else would change in the coming years. They were on the verge of graduating and heading in different directions, following their own dreams. Were they growing up too fast?

She heard a soft whistle and saw Jadeite waiting below the window.

"You coming, firebird?"

Jadeite's smirk- flirtatious and unashamed- made Rei blush. Swinging a leg out the window she realized that maybe growing up was a good thing.
