Ruby's cloak billowed in the wind as she walked. The girl stepped out from in between two trees and sensed a darkness in front of her. She inhaled through her nose and smelled sulfur thick in the air. She concentrated on the sounds of the surrounding area and heard feet across snow. She also heard a deep growling, that of which sounded like a wolf.

Before it reached her, she knew what she was facing. A huge pack of Beowolves. Ruby sensed a darkness near her face and she bolted through the air, too fast to see. She drew her weapon from her back, extended it and blasted the head off a nearby grimm. She landed as another monster tried to hit her. Ruby dashed out of the way, through the pack and appeared on the other side.

She smelled the sulfur thicken as a Beowulf came after her. Ruby whipped around, catching it in the inverse curve of her weapon's blade and fired, cleaving it in half. The rest stopped for a second as they watched their fallen comrade vanish. The Huntress in training could feel the grimm as they charged her.

Ruby pulled her cloak down from her head and flipped her cloak over he shoulders. She kept her eyes closed as she took another breath through her nose. The smells of the grimm mixed together in a huge mass of stench. Judging by how much it smelled, she estimated a pack over fifty strong. She might be able to handle that many alone, but than again she might not. Better safe than sorry.

The red cloaked girl ran for the trees and stopped right before she re-entered the forest. She turned around, showed her weapon in her back and opened her eyes. The Beowolves stopped in their tracks, as they sensed something off. Back to where Ruby was standing, her teeth extended into a mouthful of sharp teeth, her nails grew into class as her hands and feet morphed into the paws of a rather large dire animal.

Her back lengthened and her arms grew. From the back of her waist, a tail sprouted and fur overtook her being. Her cataract filled eyes cleared as they transformed. Her face grew with her skull as her teeth filled her bigger jawbone. She got on all fours and grew in size.

Her form had completely changed into that of a giant, dire wolf. Her fur was black at the bases of her legs and head, fading into a crimson red on her back and sides. She had a faint, but visible shimmer over her fur, due to her coat being tipped with a touch of silver. Her eyes glowed slightly as she finished her transformation.

The grimm wanted to keep charging, but they hesitated for a second or two. One moment the human was a girl, the next she had turned into a wolf that stood eight feet at the shoulder. Ruby snarled at the monsters and they backed up a few steps. The grimm, creatures of fear, were afraid. That only happened when she took this form. The wolf took a step forward and the grimm took another step back.

In a flash of black, red and silver, Ruby tore through the pack of Beowolves, reducing them to a disappearing pile of ashes. It was rare for Ruby to take her wolf form, and only when she needed it. She turned behind her and saw a few alfas running away into the woods. The wolf knew if they escaped they would learn how to fight her, and she couldn't have that. Ruby chased them through the snow covered forest for about an hour before they led her to a cave.

They rushed in, but Ruby stopped in front. She used her senses to determine how far the cave went and what else was inside. Through her nose, the wolf saw a shadow world. The cave stretched through the rock for a few miles. She smelled the grimm as they ran further and further down. Their figures were smokey and gray as they rushed from the surface.

She let out a low moan from her chest, making it bounce all throughout the tunnel, listening for any sound of crevices or nooks smaller grimm could be hiding in. She found none and smelled for the alfas again. Their were deeper that time, so deep she could barely smell them anymore.

Ruby turned from the mouth of the cave, deciding it would be better to tell her father about it. With that thought, she reverted from her wolf form back into her human body. It had taken years of practice to keep her clothes from getting torn to shreds when she shifted, but she had a hang of it now.

Author's note: Okay, this story is NOT one of my ideas. All credit is given to the person it's due. Gizmo Gear is the guy who agreed to let me adopt his story. I got the idea that Ruby would be blind in human form and the only way she could see would be in wolf form. I finished watching BNA the other day and I got the idea when I was writing this that Ruby's sense of smell would look like that of the silver wolf. I can't remember what his name is for the life of me. Anyway, Gizmo Gear, thank you for letting me adopt this from you. End author's note.
